Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf and Spa

The location was good .

The restaurant near the accommodation we stayed in did not have a very variety for the evening meal , So no Fillet Steak or Sirloin Steak, the Steak on the menu we had not heard of , so no evening meal for us to have.

Location was fab! Staff were great especially the reception staff. The room was very good providing everything you needed including dressing gowns & slippers. The hot breakfast was good. Plenty of fruit was provided in the continental breakfast but not ham or cheese to go with the bread rolls.

If you keep the air con on at night be aware it was very noisy waking me up just after midnight especially loud & had to turn it off!! No option to open a window.

Hotel was faultless - Room was a great size and comfy. facilities were excellent as well as the breakfast. good value. I took the advise of another person who visited the local pub, The Fox. This would be highly recommended as the food was amazing. busiest pub i have ever seen on a monday

My only negative was my experience trying to communicate to the hotel prior to my visit. we had a minor emergency before our stay and despite my efforts with numerous emails and calls, no one ever came back to me. i was actually on hold for 2 hours which is pretty unacceptable. i ended up hanging up as i had wasted my morning trying to get hold of reception. furthermore my wife had a similar experience trying to reach anyone at the spa. Basically it was a brilliant stay but someone needs to be on duty to answer the phone and emails.

The grounds were exceptional. The room was excellent & spacious.

Menu wasn't very varied. If you didn't like beef or fish..your were struggling if you were staying for a few days. Only one pork or lamb dish. Long wait times for drinks. Supervision of the pool area was VERY poor. Children under 16 were in the jacuzzi area on a regular basis & jumping in the pool. Ran out of cups for water & not replaced. Poor monitoring of the changing room area as they run out of towels on more than one occasion. Soft drinks were VERY expensive. You don't expect to pay £4.10 for a Cranberry juice. They had two separate drinks menus. One had a Malbec @ £10.30 & another had the same drink @ £10.50. We were not happy as the server said the price on the til was £10.50...

The location and site were absolutely beautiful. Staff were all friendly.

The changing rooms for the pool were unkempt, the staff there didn't inform us where flip flops were, the bodywash, shampoo and conditioner bottles weren't filled along with dirty towels thrown everywhere. There was even a dirty sanitary towel in the shower cubicle. In the morning, the people in the room next door were making lots of noise, along with the member of staff who was helping them. We ordered burgers in the lounge area as the restaurant was fully booked, but it took an hour for the food to arrive and we still had to pay £57.70 for two beefburgers and 3 fizzy drinks. We'd been here before, hence our return.

The room was very comfortable, and set up for 3 of us, although one of our friends was sick so couldn't come. And my other friend slept in the sofa bed, which she said wasn't the most comfortable mattress she's ever slept on.

The hotel itself is very old and like staying in a stately home, but with mod cons, but it does feel a bit dated, i.e. old bathroom suite and fusty-looking furniture. Felt like it needed some freshness brought in to give it that luxury feel. The radiators in the room were on full blast when we went in, and made the most awful gurgling sound, so we turned them off, and actually opened the windows as it was like a sauna in there. And don't forget that this hotel is right near to Luton Airport (you can see it from the gardens), so you do get airplanes flying over from early in the morning. If you are a light sleeper I recommend earplugs, which do the trick.

As ever Luton Hoo excelled with excellent food and staff who are exemplary.

We ate lunch in the brasserie both days and were surprised to find people eating there in dressing gowns, presumably on a spa day. Not everyone has the body of Tom Cruise, unpleasant when one is eating.

Size of room was great - we were in 142. Shower was nice and strong! Gardens and character of property was stunning! We had Afternoon Tea there and this was fabulous too. Special mention to Magda who was so helpful with a family member who had some mobility issues and she went above and beyond to make our Afternoon Tea very special.

Breakfast was lovely - only thing I could suggest as feedback is that we had to ask a number of times for coffee and toast....I know the staff are busy but its a tad annoying when others seated after you get food before you! I prefer the hot buffet on the Sunday morn...preferably if we stayed again, a toaster machine to do our own toast would be a great addition rather than having to ask for it.

Brilliant location, golf course, gardens and grounds and if the course the mansion itself. Most staff helpful and friendly and would go out of their way to be of service; breakfast was good. Golf course well maintained. Lovely chance to stay at a historic property that I remembered visiting as a child. Nice coffee machine in room and v comfy beds with a patio and table as well as large bathroom with bath and shower. We also went to the spa area after check out - great sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and pool (really not that busy and it was well Maintained!)

Food was v expensive for what it was; (and wasn’t a high standard - could have been frozen and reheated pizza) some items not as described on menu eg fig ice cream with no figs. V v slow service in the lounge area. Coffee at breakfast was incredibly weak. Grounds have been let go - needs a maintenance plan as seems sad (apart from the golf course which is well maintained) For a his n hers sink wouldn’t you give two sets of soap?!

Reception staff were really welcoming and informative. A lovely spacious room with a comfy bed and a good breakfast, with friendly staff on duty who remembered me the next morning. Used the pool which was a bit chilly but lovely. The jacuzzi style pool was full of young children despite the signs which isn't the fault of the hotel but it was great the next morning at 7am!

Disappointing that it took ages to get a drink in the evening when sat in the lounge area. Could also improve the sustainability footprint. There was no provenance on the food and the yogurt came from Normandy - not very local! Spa lost my booking which was done via email and were not especially helpful, just said the person I had been emailing was off sick. It is a generic email address so why didn't someone else pick up the email? Poor excuse really
