Spotlessly clean. Outstanding breakfast and delightful staff. Situated in a peaceful location overlooking the golf course. Particular mention for Seonaid who couldn't have been more helpful. Would thoroughly recommend.

There is absolutely nothing to dislike. Whilst the hotel has a small comfortable bar area and open lounge area, evening meals are not served. However, Australian themed 'Roos Leap' restauant 50 metres to the right, served tasty and good value food in spotless surroundings. The eating area is upstairs so looks out over the golf course. It is very popular, so you need to book.

Loved the whole ambience of the place and friendly welcome not just on arrival but throughout my stay. Felt they were genuinely interested that I personally would enjoy my stay. Hotel is in a quiet location with lovely garden area (lights made it feel quite magical even in October) and my room had view over golf course. Comfy bed and bathrobe and slippers provided (handy as although bathroom was private for my use it was across the corridor).

Restaurant currently closed so eating in not an option in evenings - hotel did however advise of this in advance and provided alternative suggestions.

Hotel in a good location for exploring this part of Scotland. We did trips to St Andrews, also across to the Speyside distilleries via Ballater and Royal Deeside. Lots of localish fishing villages and the National Trust for Scotland property at House of Dun. Plenty to fill a week. Hotel breakfast had a good choice.

Not a reflection on the hotel but it was hard to find good food in the evenings that wasn't something with chips. Many places were not even open at the start of the week. Would recommend The Creel Inn in Catterline and The Old Brewhouse in Arbroath, and Roos Leap in Montrose

The room was lovely, it had an ensuite shower and toilet. A kettle and packets of coffee or tea bags. There was no mini fridge which is a shame. I liked the breakfast it was spot on and there is a lovely bar area with a free pool table . I'd probably go again but would keep an eye out for any deals.

The area is dead quiet. When we stayed hardly anyone used the bar so there was effectively no night life. In fact the entire area is more geared up for golfers and the elderly.

This is a very old hotel adjacent to a golf course founded in 1532!! The hotel has been "modernized" within the past few years. But things like detached (but private) bathrooms still exist. The antique furnishings in the lobby and common areas are exceptional.

The bathroom was detached. But the hotel provides both robes and slippers. So only a mild inconvenience.

The room was elegant and quiet, with a peaceful view straight on to the links golf course. We had a separate (private) bathroom which suited us fine. The omelette at breakfast was perfect -piping hot and big. The owner was quietly friendly, welcoming and relaxed.

There was very limited option of continental style breakfast but that was explained in advance and so was okay.

What can I say about the Grey Harlings, it was a delight to stay here. The hotel is comfortable, lots of character and very relaxing. We found out that the hotel is run by a family. Linda and rest of the staff were helpful and friendly. Our room was on the second floor overlooking the garden. The room was cozy, we had restful sleep. The area is very quiet. We went into town for a bite to eat and we had fish and chips. The breakfast the next day was brilliant (compliments to the chef). Hotel suitable for all, especially ideal for golfers being right at the golf course. Would recommend this place!!!

We loved the quiet location set on the edge of the golf course. We could watch the golfers daily from our window and it was only a 5 mins walk to a beautiful stretch of beach. The town was only a short walk away too which is handy for a nice walk with a rewarding coffee and cake at the end of it. The Grey Harlings itself is a lovely, characterful hotel with a small bar, games room and restaurant which at the time of our visit was not yet back open to the public. We were given close by recommended alternatives by the hosts for alternative dining well in advance of our visit which we were very grateful for as this allowed us to plan. We had beautifully cooked and presented breakfasts each morning which set us up for the start of the day. We would imagine that the quality of meals at the restaurant would have been exactly the same as there is obviously a great deal of care and pride taken in everything they do here. All the staff we met were lovely, courteous and answered any queries we had expertly. We really enjoyed our visit and had a restful stay.

We would loved to have been able to dine in the restaurant.

The room was recently modernised, wonderfully spacious with a great shower. The view over the golf links and sand dunes was lovely to wake up to. The beach was beautiful, deserted and so close. We managed to book at Roo's Leap for an evening meal as no facilities at hotel to dine. It was a very short walk for delicious food. We liked the atmosphere and decor of the hotel inside but outside was unkempt and needed some TLC. Maybe as the hotel us up for sale new owners will address this.

Limited breakfast. Although the main breakfast was well cooked, we had expected a buffet table with cereals, fruit, yoghurt etc as offered at the 4 other establishments we stayed at (similar standard and similarly priced). We were asked for the exact time we would be down for breakfast but prefer to have a little flexibility when we are on holiday. We noticed tea and coffee pots placed on tables even before guests arrived down a little late in dining room! In one case over 5 minutes beforehand!
