The George Hotel0

Although, the hotel looked a little bit tired from the outside, the room was great, clean and tidy. The surprise for us was the large dog bed, bowl and biscuits awaiting our little Jack Russell terrier! She was made most welcome by all the staff! Indeed, she got her drink of water before we managed to get our drinks ordered! The meal in the lounge bar in the evening couldn't be faulted, all cooked to order, so, worth the wait. The bar was extremely busy with people enjoying evening meals, and, practically every table was full. There may have been some noise from the road outside, but, we slept well. Then, OMG, the breakfast, wow, just wow! We have had some great full Scottish breakfasts over the last few years, however, this one is going to take some beating!! Again, everything is cooked to order, hang on in there, because it's amazing!

Can't really find anything to moan about!

The breakfast service by Susie was excellent. The manager, Tracy, was attentive to address any requests. The restaurant was popular and had good food. We really enjoyed our stay.

Since the building is old which gives it character, we suggest they train all staff how to open a window for circulation. We understand that rooms usually have at least one window that opens. You need to give it a quick firm pull up if it doesn't open easily, at least in room #4 it's the far right window. Not sure if other rooms have this characteristic.

The George is a small friendly hotel which is really convenient for the centre of Montrose and as a base for the surrounding area and attractions, including Montrose Basin Wildlife Centre and House of Dun. Also ideal to stay for when visiting cities of Aberdeen and Dundee as Montrose is about halfway between the two. Lovely staff and comfortable, warm, clean room. Good breakfast available to set you up for a day of exploring! Also great value for money.

Needs a little updating with lighter colours for the decor.

1st its dog friendly , clean dog bed in the room with a bowl of complimentary biscuits . The room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable . The staff are very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent so yes I would recommend The George hotel to anyone looking to visit Montrose , we certainly will stay there again.

There is nothing to complain about , we liked everything about our stay.

Nice homely place with good bar and excellent breakfast. Good location for access to cenre of Montrose. Comfortable room with good shower. Good parking facilities adjacent to the hotel with controlled entry.

The hotel is situated diagonally across the road fron a bar/diner/night club and as we were in a room facing on to this, (and we stayed over a Saturday night), there was quite a bit of noise till the small hours. Perhaps other rooms would have been quieter, or mid week less busy.

Nothing was too much trouble and the owners/staff continually went out of their way to be helpful - from comms before I arrived via Booking.com, keeping a meal for me when I arrived late on a Friday night, allowing me to check out late, asking if I needed anything while I did some work in their reception. It's a really welcoming place. Add in a cooked to order breakfast, an excellent bar restaurant serving huge delicious meals all day, and a cosy, clean hotel room that was tidied immaculately every day -- and spotlessly clean bathroom, it was a home away from home and much nicer than plastic chain hotels. It's in a good location right in the centre of Montrose a short walk to everywhere!

That I had to leave! Montrose is a nice place and the George is a great base.

This hotel was a surprise, as we thought "Oh, older type hotel like so many others." However, we could not have been more wrong. Our room was superb, the breakfast outstanding, the staff enthusiastic, the parking secure, and all in all, it was a seriously enjoyable stay. Special kudos to Dot and Sue among the staff :) Absolutely 11/10.

Nowt to dislike.

The location of the hotel was ideal for walking to the shops. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent value.

The hotel wasn't very well lit outside, so finding it wasn't easy. We arrived in the dark. We had a lovely standard lamp in the room that didn't work. Dinner was expensive. Only one chair in the room so one of us (me) always had to sit on the bed.

Great value for money, nice place to stay. Clean and comfortable. Staff were always helpful and friendly.

Excellent breakfast cooked fresh and to order. Only thing that would have made it even better would have been if there was a dairy free option of butter and milk. Would recommend.

The Hotel staff made me feel very welcome and they helped me with any little problem that I had. The breakfasts were exceptional and delivered with a smile, so nice to see in people that young. On the of my departure the staff ordered a taxi to take me to the train station once again showing their kindness I'm looking forward to the 20th. September when I'll return for another short stay

There was nothing about the hotel I did not like, only bad point was outside the hotel, it is a steep climb up to the high street and the bus stops other than that it was fine.
