very warm welcome from Clive & Mel. the weather was beautiful so we enjoyed a pint in the fabulous beer garden. a small river adjoins and children were having a great time playing in the water. we enjoyed a very good value for money evening meal. fillet steak and homemade steak and ale pie. the room was clean and the towels large. the bed was two singles pushed together but was comfortable. at £100 for the room including two breakfasts it was exceptional value for money.

it was a very warm day. the pub is located on a busy road which made sleeping difficult with the window open. ear plugs recommended

Warm welcome! Delightful riverside beer garden, lovely staff , spotlessly clean room, characterful property. My bed was very comfortable. Breakfasts were good. There’s a very nice walk by the river.

Main road outside is busy and vigilance is needed to cross it with the dog for toilet. Bin and bags are provided in the lovely beer garden (👍) but I personally think that’s only appropriate for emergencies.

Nice and quiet, liked that the bar/restaurant was separated by a glass door, this kept noise downstairs and the bedrooms quiet. Fab beer garden, lots of places to sit. Hotel doesn’t open till 3 but booking.com says 2pm, may need to update this, but they were nice enough to let us in early.

Room was nice and homely but very muggy, we had the window open all the time, could do with air con or at least a fan in the room.

Friendliness of staff who treated me to a free drink when I finished climbing the Wainwrights

Ceiling collapsed with water and sewage ingress over the billiards table. This could have been caused by visitors putting the wrong stuff down the toilet and nothing to do with proprietor.

The place in general is lovely, nice location, lovely helpful staff, really good breakfast. Nice outside area, calm relaxing place.

In need of deep cleaning. The smell of beer and old carpets inside the hotel. Our room compared with our family ( refurbished ) wasn't the best. We had old old carpet even in the bathroom, and bath with no shower head. Need refreshing.

The Staff were very welcoming throughout my stay. The room was clean and tidy and the bed was very comfortable. I had an evening meal within the Bar area and the food was really good at reasonable prices. Breakfast is ordered to your liking and cooked fresh on demand.

I only stayed the 1 night and could not find anything that I did not like.

We were made very welcome by every one at the Stanley Arms everyone made our stay an enjoyable experience . The breakfast was the perfect start to the day and with a good selection for the evening meal you did not need to go further a field , The garden was the perfect place to enjoy a pint in the late afternoon , there is so much to sea around the area this location is well worth a visit to sum up nice place , nice people, nice food all add up to a perfect five days . A big thankyou to all at the Stanley Arms.

The Breakfast for vegetarians could do with some vegetarian sausages instead of one egg, beans and mushrooms.....

Owners & staff friendly & helpful. Tasty cooked breakfast. The menu for evening meals was short but offered decent pub food which was well cooked and with generous portion sizes. Room was clean, comfortable and well presented. Very good value for money

Cooked breakfasts only available from 9am at weekends (although toast & cereal could be obtained earlier). Also evening meals finished at 8pm. Both aspects meant that the length of walks we could undertake during the day were somewhat constrained. No real coffee offered at breakfast - only instant.

Great staff, very friendly and helpful. Great quality food, both for breakfast and dinner in the evenings. Good selection of beers and beverages in the bar. Family bedroom was comfortable, with enough space both in the main room and in the generous bathroom with walk-in shower. Beautiful beer garden that we were lucky enough to use one evening.

Nothing really. If I was to be really picky I could say the full English breakfast was possibly not enough for very hungry walkers about to set out on a long walk. Its location very close to Sellafield is a matter of personal choice.
