Great location, short drive to Wast Water, Scafell Pike and plenty of other landmarks. The room and the bathroom were clean, reasonably spacious and contained everything needed. There’s a number of food options around, including pub downstairs. Excellent price in season, nice bartender working there had to gently remind us we overstayed by almost an hour since I confused checkout time with another place. Overall definitely a great value for money.

Staff were friendly, check in was easy. Nice beer. Bakery 3 doors down did very nice sandwiches and pies. Sister pub at other end of village did very nice food.

No breakfast. No parking but free car park was close enough. Food presentation could be improved on. Watch out for the raised "stage" . I tripped over it on the first night and witnessed another guest falling full length later in the week.

mix up with meal, but it was sorted. staff very good but because they were very busy didn't take time to listen to us when the wrong meal was given to us. Food was lovely when we did get the right meal. The road through Gosforth was very busy and the traffic was going too fast even though the speed limit is 20 mph making walking a bit difficult (mostly no pavement). We do appreciate this is not the fault of the hotel!

We booked room only so cannot comment on food/drink etc as we didnt use the pub. Access to the rooms is separate from the pub. We found our room to be very clean and well equipped. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom facilities very good. Parking is free in a public car park across the road which we found to be convenient.

Our room (standard double) was a little bit small but ok

Stayed here last weekend with my girlfriend, we enjoyed it so much we stayed another night! Natalie is great and very accommodating - i asked for sunflowers to be put in the room as a surprise and Natalie went to great lengths to source them. The rooms are to a very good standard. The bar service was great. The food was perfect for filling up after a long hike. I recommend the meat pie! The overall service was ace - they let us use the tumble dryer and lent some blue roll for our boots after a rainy hike. Would highly recommend staying here, what you get for the price can’t be beaten.

Could do with a breakfast option maybe?

Had a very comfortable stay, great village, room was perfect, staff were so friendly, good food and great location for the west lakes. Beach at Seascale was an added bonus - fabulous with the tide out. Dog made very welcome.

Nothing I didn't expect - it's a pub, and a justifiably popular one - had I been less tired on the last night I would have most certainly stayed up and enjoyed the live band, but if this is not your thing don't expect to be able to sleep soundly!

Firstly, the staff went above and beyond to cater our needs and help us feel as comfortable as they could Secondly, the facilities were very good for the size of the property has everything you would need and the food was amazing The location was great as we had a local Sainsbury’s and simply fresh which was great for fresh breakfasts and also some other shops nearby with a free car park. The only problem with the location of being close to the sea was we had to commute a while to get to things such as attractions and towns. Lastly due the pandemic I have been on edge about staying away however from the moment I got there I felt safe as everything was very clean and maintained throughout our stay. Would highly recommend this place

Absolutely beautiful place to stay. The village was a bustling little place but everyone was friendly and said 'hi'. The food in the lion and lamb was great, best cheesy garlic bread I've ever had 😊. The rooms were well decorated with everything you needed. Coffee/tea things were provided which was great first thing in the morning. The TV was great (a big screen aswell) and free wi-fi throughout. Natalie from the lion and lamb was lovely, very friendly and made us feel so welcome. Well worth the stay.

Really wish they did breakfast in house, instead of having to go to local shop for a breakfast roll as this was no where near as nice.

Had a lovely time, great pub, very clean, spacious rooms and lovely little extras included. Only draw back was the noise from the speaker underneath our room, it was Saturday and the Grand National had been on and the pub was very busy, the pub cleared out by around 1130 but there was still noise from the speaker til around 1am. I am a light sleeper, my husband slept through it all :). Thank you, if we’re ever mad enough to walk Scafell again we’ll be back 👍🏻
