Our first visit to The Black Hole and very much hoping it wont be our last, we arrived in torrential rain and greatly appreciated the lady in Black Boy pub next door helping us drop off our luggage. The Black Hole itself was excellent, very well designed room, especially bathroom, where a full sized sink, fantastic mirror and great lighting meant I could shave without crippling my back...which is what often happens at other accommodation. Emma and the team were excellent throughout, very helpful when needed, brilliant breakfast to start each day, real role models for how a b&b/hotel should be. The location is spot on for what we wanted to do around Winchester...the only minor issue is parking situation thanks to councils ridiculous policy of not being able to extend a stay for more than 24 hours...but The Black Hole more than makes up for councils issues.

As already mentioned, the councils ridiculous policy of not being able to extend a stay for more than 24 hours. The Black Hole was pretty much perfect in itself for what we wanted to do and the price we paid.

The room was quirky and clean. A "prison" atmosphere. Staff was exceptionally pleasant and instructions were clear on breakfast and entering/exiting the building. Breakfast was delicious. Full English, fresh orange juice and a pleasant atmosphere. The staff was constantly busy and we could tell she cares about the hotel. If I were to focus on slightly negative areas, would be for the parking which was 5 mins away from b and b but not a huge issue at all as it was large sized parking garage. Also a bit noisy in the early morning due to traffic but the experience was very good here. Would definitely stay again!! Loved the pub next door as well ..worth a visit there.

Noisy in early morning due to traffic outside and parking garage was a five minute walk BUT the experience of the b and b far outweighed in positives!

It was in a good location with a ten minute walk to town in either direction. The room was clean and quirky in its appearance. Breakfast was either full English or more continental but you could have a little of both and was served fresh and hot. Lovely quirky pub adjoining the property which had a roof terrace and served lovely fresh made pizza on certain nights.

The only real downside was there are no tea or coffee making facilities in the room which, for the price of the room, I would expect as standard. You could get a drink from the dining room but I find that a bit of a pain really.

The Black Hole B&B was a brilliant find in Winchester and was just a short walk from the city centre and major attractions. The accommodation was quirky and the rooms (cells!) were immaculately kept. Our room was at the back of the property and didn’t have a view, but this really didn’t detract from our over all experience especially as there was a brilliant roof terrace that had wonderful views over the city. The whole style of the accommodation was simple, but executed in a very considered way, and we loved the little details throughout the property. On our arrival, we were warmly greeted and told about the facilities we could use, which included helping ourselves at any time, to tea, coffee etc from the breakfast room. Breakfast (full English or Continental), exceeded any expectations we had, and given the exceptional price we paid for our room. Our only regret was that we didn’t stay longer!

There was nothing we didn’t like. On a personal level though, a privacy film, just on the lower bedroom window panel would have saved our embarrassment when leaving the shower room in a state of undress. This is because the property is built on a slope, and although our room was on the first floor, the footpath behind the building ran parallel to our room. It certainly wasn’t a problem though and we had a good laugh at ourselves! We couldn’t find a hair dryer in the room, but there was probably one available had we asked.

Querky rooms as you would expect if you have read the other reviews - the look on our friends faces when they were given the key to 'Cell 2' was a picture as we had kept them in the dark as of the location. The full English for Breakfast was very tasty and served with a smile. If walking into Winchester and I suggest that you take the opportunity then follow the river walk close to the hotel it is a beautiful walk with plenty of seats. We don't often come this way but if we do then we would have no hesitation stopping here again.

The only gripe was that we couldn't get access to the building until 3.00 which I know is check in time but we were hoping to drop the bags off and have a walk around. Thankfully the weather was sunny so waiting outside was not a problem and we spent some time in the pub next door which is even more querky than the hotel. My suggestion if you are planning to come early is to ring first to see if there is anyone to let you in.

Quirky property with a prison theme.. Room clean and comfortable. Nice walk along river to get to town centre and a great pub next door. Great breakfast. Little rooftop terrace was an added bonus. Cheap parking at£7.30 for 24 hours nearby.

No tea or coffee making facilities in room. There was a coffee machine on ground floor which you were free to use but it was out of order on the evening of our stay. Also the fact that the property is unstaffed outside check in window meant you were unable to leave your bags, so had to leave them in multi storey car park or haul them round with you.

Walking distance from sites of interest; next door to pub; although no parking provided the local car park was a short walk from the venue and very reasonably priced (the over payment automatically carried over to the following day); A good breakfast choice provided. The room contained a bed, iron safe as a bed side table and a book as a bed side shelf; a simple hanging arrangement. The ensuit was very well presented and the shower was better than acceptable. It seemed to have underfloor heating. Decor was interesting luxury 'Cat D' cell-like. Nice roof terrace to relax on.

Road noise as I had my windows open overnight. Stairs might be an issue for people with mobility issues.

Quirky, spotless, no nonsense B&B that offers a very comfortable night or two in beautiful Winchester. Close to safe public parking. Lovely reception host, excellent chef and breakfast service, and it was lovely to have access to the breakfast room even in the evening if I wanted a cup of tea. I liked the self service approach and the flexibility and ease of the place. It was great!

The property is located on the main road into town and it was quite noisy with vehicles passing by all through the night. One has to tune that out or it can keep one awake.

Rooms (cells actually) were nice and bathroom was beautiful. Roof terrace was nice place to spend evening - they had plastic wine glasses near the terrace door. Breakfast was great - fresh orange juice! Coffee machine was good and available during the whole visit. Location is lovely - river, city center and cathedral were all close. Pub next soor is absolutely worht to visit!

Our room was tiny and had only few hangers for clothes. It wasn’t a problem because we stayed only one night but for longer visit it would be nice to put your clothes somewhere.

We stayed for our 10 year wedding anniversary. The posters on the stairs were great all the little quirks were perfect and the Breakfast was superb, the hotel was amazing. The location was fantastic. We loved it all.

Nothing really at all. Not having parking concerned us at first but the car park is directly opposite and only £7 for the whole stay and its very well explained to you prior to your stay. I would highly, highly recommend this hotel.
