Welcome from staff early access to drop offf bags as we had a lunchtime wedding to go to,plus a car pass for offroad parking. Very comfortable bed (low we have an ottoman at home) solid furniture in keeping with historical Winchester and porcelain patterned cups and saucers with a cute teapot. Good decor thrioght en suite Room No 3. Pub was quiet when we came back 10pm Saturday,.garden well lit with a children play area. Location ideal and excellent value for Winchester. Will come again for a short Stay thank you.

Helpful comment a paint tester brush for the small white dots on and near the door.

The room we stayed in was well appointed and quite sumptuously decorated in a classic style. The bed was very comfortable. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. We ate in the pub and the food was delicious. The continental breakfast provided in the room was lovely. Overall, highly recommended.

A few small things could be considered. Our room was rather dark. There was a mirror on one of the tables to use as a dressing table but it was very dark to put make up on. However, some people could use the bathroom so not a huge issue. A couple of the lights are also a bit unpredictable and the toilet cistern ran with water constantly. However, the bathroom door mostly blocked out the noise.

I was treated extremely well on arrival, given a parking permit and shown to my room. The room wasn’t big but it had everything I needed for just one night. I ordered dinner at the bar and enjoyed an excellent fish & chips. Cooked breakfast isn’t provided but there was an excellent selection for a continental type breakfast in the small fridge provided in the room. The bar area was very unique and although the decor was dark throughout it created a very comfortable ambiance. I would have no hesitation of staying here again if I needed to stay in Winchester again, thank you.

Staff were very freindly and efficient. Quality of the drinks and food were excellent. The room was good and the beds comfortable.

We are not fans of breakfast in the room which previously was a cooked breakfast provided in the restaurant. I have a nut allergy so would never chance a Granola regardless of the ingredients listed. It was dissapionting that no other cereal alternative was offered. The muffins & yoghurt were ok, the apple juice was very nice, but still missed a cooked breakfast. The shower head in the room did not have a adjustable angle, so was uncomfortable to use. Compared to our previous visits the menu was a lot more limited, although to be fair the quality of the food was excellent. The missed the gloriously overflowing flower baskets that used to be a feature of the outside..

I absolutely loved this pub and accomodation provided. The room was incredibly spacious, comfortable and stocked with items that made my stay really enjoyable, such as freshly ground coffee and a really healthy, wholesome breakfast. The food in the pub was really good too - I had the belly pork and it was truly delicious. The staff were really freindly - I had a warm welcome as soon as I walked in and even when I was leaving a member of staff asked how I had found things and wished me a good onward journey.

I cannot think of anything I could suggest that would make my stay more enjoyable.

The location is very central: an easy 10 minutes' walk to the city centre. It is a very historical and vibrant pub with decent food. We had dinner there which was excellent. The room had a heater so we were warm and toasty in the cold :). The kettle and tea bags with biscuits were also much appreciated. The breakfast bag of muffins and cereal with yoghurt, apple juice, fresh milk and tangerines in the fridge was also a nice touch. The shower was strong with hot water.

The shower unfortunately did not drain properly. The toilet flush was strange: you had to press down both buttons for it to work. The wi fi in the room was very poor: it constantly cut off and did not work. It worked for about 10%of the time. The bed mattress was saggy and uncomfortable.

The location is superb, literally, right next door to Hyde Abbey. Upon welcoming and checking in, I received a a whistle stop tour of the emergency collection point and how to get there. The stair well to accomodation is a luxurious deep red colour. In my room a rich deep green and my en suite a deep mustard. My bed a double, was probably the softest I'd ever slept on. Kettle and complementaries were all there, including fine bone china cups and saucers. Breakfast was in the fridge in the wardrobe. Packet of granola, an orange, pot of yogurt.... Room one is, I do believe the smallest of the rooms. Yet it fitted me well and was full of character. The catering part, was up to scratch too. They even put on a jazz band just for me, though in all honesty it was probably jazz night. I'll admit I like this place and cannot wait for a return visit.....

The silicone sealing needs redoing in the en-suite and room one really was quite small....

The pub looks like an excellent pub given the number of customers when we arrived midday to check in. Parking was tricky but we were there for a Food festival so the street parking was busy. The room is sublime - like going back in time to the 1930s. Lots of lovely details. Breakfast is in room and you make it yourself as the staff are not there in the mornings- it being a pub, but if you are desperate for a full English, sure you can find one locally. A really memorable stay.

Lack of parking but can’t be helped

Gorgeous room above the pub but no noise after 11pm. Great shower! Really friendly staff and a nice pub to have a beer in. we booked for dinner to and it was excellent food with a good wine list. 20 minute walk along the canal in to Winchester - pleasant walk. You get breakfast supplied in your room - muffins and granola but as we are gluten free we couldnt enjoy it.

Breakfast - could we have had a gluten free option?

Very good check in, we were shown to our room, given all the information that we needed and then left to our own devices which is exactly what we like. (I'm sure we could have asked for help with any queries easily but we didn't need to). The room was spacious and comfortable and a generous breakfast was provided in the room (fresh milk is always a bonus). It was approx a 10/15 minute walk into the centre of Winchester and a parking permit was provided so we didn't need to worry about the car.

Our only small issue was that the room was very dark so it was difficult for my husband to see to shave.
