Cedar Gables Inn

This was a cute little Inn, located in a quiet neighborhood approximately 3 blocks from downtown Napa Valley. For two adults, the facility met our need for a two night stay. The Inn is older, so it does have that "older home" smell that could be off-putting to some. The smell was not strong in our room, which had a sofa bed and separate bedroom with a queen size bed and TV. Bathroom was very modern and shower was great. The room came with a fridge, small writing desk, and side table. A Keurig coffee maker and pods were provided; unfortunately it was located in the bathroom, which we felt was not quite so appropriate and therefore, did not use. But we thoroughly enjoyed the daily breakfast, strong coffee, and water.

I dislike the lack of personal contact with staff. During our stay, we met one staff who provided us with keys, brief run down of our stay and check-out and that was it. The only other time we encounter staff was during breakfast serving. Being an Inn, I thought there would be more personal contact with staff for chatting and touristy engagement. Unfortunately, there were none. You are pretty much left on your own, come what may. Thank goodness we didn't have any issues during our stay. Aside from that, we had a good stay.

SO PRETTY!!!! Our room had the window all the way above the front entrance, that curve gave a really neat shape to the room. The bathroom is updated with modern fixtures. The bed was soooo comfortable. On site parking is super sparse but the street parking is ample, all around, and free. the neighborhood was in good condition and felt safe and it was a short easy walk to downtown (10-15 minutes) and there is NO CURFEW. We enjoyed utilizing the common areas in the evening, and the breakfasts which were included in the stay were surprisingly good! They also accommodate any dietary restrictions you might have!

As others have said, the age of the house lends to noise as people climb the stairs but it’s typically only 30 seconds of creaking. Our room was right next to the stairs and it wasn’t that bad. That’s it! no other cons!

Location is very accessible to downtown. Breakfast presentation and tastes are superb and so is the strong coffee served...thank God, I can't stand weak coffee, and I think it's very representative of the owner having pride in what they deliver. The staff is also very courteous and the place is clean and well appointed without too much furniture for a relaxed feel. We loved the spaciousness of our first floor room behind the dining room. The mattress was very comfortable even for my husband who has bad back!

The only issues were that no one was reachable after 10:00pm as our toilet was backed up with first use (we were out for a jazz show and dinner) without a plunger provided. There was also no hair dryer available so I had to sleep with damp long wet hair (not recommended...could cause headache next morning) and although I was fine with the upfront stated charge of $30 in bookings.com, I didn't understand why there was an additional $24+ charged before we arrived at the inn.

The Cedar Gables Inn is a beautiful old, architecturally beautiful building. We enjoyed staying in Napa and at Cedar Gables Inn very much and we also enjoyed the freedom to come and go as we wished. The bathroom was very updated and was very nice to use, we wish it wasn't rainy so we could sit outside and enjoy the scenery.

Breakfast was okay, the breakfast burrito was pretty good but the consecutive breakfasts were essentially the same flavor, eggs, peppers and onions. We would have liked toast or a danish to have with coffee.

It was a cute little novelty stay! Super cozy and fun. Everything was clean and everyone was super nice. Noise wasn't too bad, but you could definitely tell if people were talking normally if you were near that room. There is definitely creeking, but it was part of the fun. Only stayed one night, but definitely enjoyed and would love to go back!

We weren't sure if we could explore the building more, but the areas we knew we could access were fun to see and enjoy!

We booked two rooms, our friends had the larger suite with a king bed, this room had a very comfortable space for the four of us to chat and enjoy a glass of wine together. Our room was much smaller with a king bed but adequate space for an overnight stay. Rooms have a nice bathroom, coffee maker, and small refrigerator. John, our host, was very welcoming and friendly. He gave us the history of the property as it is a very beautifully crafted mansion. We all enjoyed the unique breakfast, fresh fruit, juices, and coffee in the morning. The location is great!

The room and bathroom were large. The king size bed was very comfortable. The staff was great. Eggs Benedict were served for breakfast. We aren’t fans of that and when they noticed that we weren’t eating, they offered to make us scrambled eggs and an English muffin. Very accommodating!! We generally like to stay at different places for each trip, but this one will be put back on our list of places to stay again!!

Lack of parking.

This home is situated in the downtown area and is an easy walk to resteraunts, markets, and shops. The host was friendly and informative. He assisted with activities in the area. Our disappointment was in the breakfast, but that may have been our pickiness as others loved them.. The Inn was in a great area for walking and interesting other homes. We enjoyed our stay

The food

Breakfast was very nice. Nice to have something hot and Vegan. The Bed we had was really comfortable. The location was good, easy to get about. There is parking for 3 cars and one disabled space. The Staff were lovely.

The bathroom was a little odd, perhaps because we were given the disabled room. Not a deal breaker by any means but having the sink in a separate room was odd.

When you think of the perfect country inn, you may be thinking about the Cedar Gables Inn. Dark wood paneling, stained glass windows, nooks and crannies, warm fireplaces, and a well-appointed room are made only that much better by the hands-on attention and presence of John and his family. Choose the breakfast option! We were there three nights and enjoyed a different creation each morning. John is free and easy with advice on local attractions, restaurants, and wineries. Just wish we would have had longer to share a few glasses and trade some stories, but then, I guess we'll just have to say, until next time. We'll be back!
