This was an excellent location for accessing Cork, the room was clean, and the staff worked hard when interacting with the guests. Previous reviews have mentioned soft white fluffy towels - I can agree with that description!

Not the fault of the owners - I was in a front bedroom (room 12) where the traffic was really noisy, plus I was beside the reception area and was disturbed each time the front door was slammed shut. The shower was great although the extractor fan only worked when the light was switched on, which meant the en-suite bathroom smelt damp most of the time. There were beautiful and huge sized curtains at the window which were hard to draw shut. This meant the street lighting flooded my bedroom throughout the night, although it was slightly easier to handle than the traffic noise. Should also mention only Netflix available on the TV, perhaps a good thing given the gloomy current world affairs during my stay .....

We arrived very early, expecting to leave our luggage until check-in time, but were pleasantly surprised to get early check-in, after a little wait on the beautiful riverside veranda. The room was spacious and had it's own riverside veranda (shared with one room). The staff were all - reception, breakfast, cleaners - incredibly friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good - to order and we again ate outside by the river. We did a walking circuit of the main sights of Cork right from the hotel - no need to drive anywhere as it is near the scenic university campus and not excessively far from the center. Parking at the hotel was tight (glad we had rented a small car) but free and available. There was a microwave, fridge / freezer, table and chairs in a shared space outside our room which were able to use. We stayed in 9 different hotels / apartments during our visit to Ireland and this was our favorite - wish we had more than one night there. Highly recommended.

Getting to breakfast required going outside and into a different part of the hotel, but that wasn't a problem in July.

The staff was friendly and immediately offered me a complimentary coffee when I arrived. The room was small but plenty for me since I was alone. It's a charming little B&B.

I was a little concerned that the door to my room did not meet my expectations of being comfortable alone in my room. It just did not seem very secure, but the entry ways to the building seemed secure enough to makeup for this. I was also disappointed with the wifi connection as there was no stability if you wanted to watch TV. It was also quite loud just with other guests moving around in their rooms. I was not aware that breakfast had to be paid for in advance, so make sure it is included your final price.

Shandon Bells is a lovely guesthouse located a quick 15 min walk from the main city. My room overlooked the River Lee which was lovely to see each morning. Comfortable bed, ample pillows. Tea and coffee station at the end of the bed which was well supplied and refreshed each day. Shower and bathroom was very clean, soft towels and toiletries provided as well. Close to a bus stop and great lunch café across the road if you miss the cooked breakfast.

A bit of noise from other guests, Shandon Bells does have quiet hours after 21:00 however people didn’t always adhere. Not the property’s fault just something to be aware of. If you are staying in the back half (river side) of the property you will also hear the dining hall below, and you will definitely smell the delicious fry-up breakfasts.

When you are used to modern hotels and their abundance of steel and glass, spending a few nights at a place like Shandon Bells feels almost like being in a time capsule. The labyrinthine corridor leading to the rooms in the main building, with its ups and downs, three steps here, two there, could be taken straight from a Victorian novel. Everything feels like from a different time. The rooms are decorated and furnished nicely, while the bathrooms do not make you feel like you are missing out on any modern comfort. The staff is delightful and very helpful. One word about the location: especially if you are visiting someone who is studying at University College Cork, you would be hard put to find a more favourable place, 10 minute' walk from the city centre and literally on the doorstep of the main university campus.

Perhaps the only down side with Shandon Bells is the soundproofing of rooms, as sounds appear to propagate a lot inside the building, and this could be a nuisance for some, especially at night.

Location and river view at breakfast was pleasant. The breakfast was prepared nicely. The staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating. They held my bag as I had arrived early, and on my last day they offered to dry my raincoat in the dryer after I was drenched and about to go to the airport. I appreciated that. The bathroom was clean and had a large tub with plenty of hot water.

I was content. There wasn't anything that I didn't like. The room was small, with a single bed, but it was clean and comfortable and had a window. En suite bathroom was spacious.

Breakfast on the river was lovely. Staff very helpful. Tubs in the bathroom were delightful. Excellent location, especially if you visit University College Cork. The art museum at the University is first rate and the campus beautiful. Be sure to visit the Honan Chapel there, which if a gem. Very good value if you are on a budget.

Stairs are very oddly configured, and if you have mobility issues, you will need to make sure you are on the first floor. There was a bit of confusion about our room bookings. You might want to consider booking directly with the BandB to make sure this does not happen. If I had been staying longer, I likely would have found a different hotel because of the odd configuration.

The location is wonderful with the River Lee flowing basically in the backyard of the property. You have the option of having your breakfast outside, with the river flowing by - very soothing and beautiful view! (Try to get a room with a view of the river!) Also, location was ideal for me because I had business at the University, which is just next door.

The room was small and a bit cramped for my XL size. Even if you're travelling alone, take that into account. The front door was also undergoing maintenance, because it kept making a screeching sound. Hopefully they will fix it soon!

I stayed here with my Husband and his family. I honestly couldn't recommend this place enough! I had a few queried in advance of our stay because we had an elderly woman in a wheelchair with us. The response time was super fast and the staff went the extra mile to ensure that two of the rooms were on the ground floor so it was accessible. Myself and my Husband had some queries about our room and the staff were so helpful and selected a room that suited our needs the most. I contacted the guest house on the day we were arriving asking if we could check in early and they responded right away saying that as soon as guests had checked out they would prioritise our rooms for us and communicated with me throughout the day. Upon arrival the staff were so welcoming and we were thrilled with our rooms, they were exactly what was described, they were clean, comfortable and one had a jacuzzi bathtub! The location was ideal with no more than a 20 minute walk into the city centre and it looked out onto the bank of thr River Lee. The breakfast was freshly prepared when you ordered it and there was plenty of choice. Will definitely be staying here again and recommending it to everyone!

The free WiFi was slow

Location was great, very central and we could walk to the centre easily. Room and bathroom was spacious. We had seat by the river for breakfast and it was a lovely sunny day. Staff were friendly.

Shower was hard to figure our as two taps both controlling pressure and temperature and hard to get it right. Breakfast service was a little slow, we asked for tea about 4 times before we got it, as not many staff for the amount of guests. There was also no alternative/plant milk which is unusual in this day and age.
