A comfortable hotel and very quiet even though the hotel seemed full . Our room was on the 4th floor , a little hot, but not a bad size, but only a double bed not a king size. Location was near to bars and restaurants, bus and train stations and was roughly a 5 minute walk to town centre. Staff were very helpful, approachable and smiley. A really nice comfortable hotel

Considering this was a 4* hotel, I was surprised and sad to see that the swimming/spa facilities were no longer available. The days were hot and it would have been nice to return to the hotel after a full day exploring and had a swim to relax and cool off.

The room was good and the location was amazing, very central and within walking distance to the bus stops and shops/restaurants.

When booking, it said that check-in was at 4PM and check-out at 11AM. When fillinng in the check-in form the night before, it said 3PM to 12PM. It also said debit cards can be provided upon check-in but then on the website it said they can only accept credit cards. I then received an email stating they can only accept credit cards, then another email stating they can accept debit cards along with a photo ID, then I received a 3rd email stating they can only accept credit cards and not debit cards. They should really get this information cleared up on the websites and the confirmation emails as it caused some stress at the time! The towels and bedsheets had some stains on them and the room was extremely warm even with the window constantly open but overall the room was good.

The hotel is beautifully decorated. The food was fantastic! We had breakfast two times in the lovely river view room, and there were many buffet style and made to order options. We also had dinner with family who came to visit in the main restaurant which was wonderful. On another night, we asked for cake as it was my son’s birthday, unfortunately the restaurant was closed for the night, but they made hot brownies with ice cream for us anyway! The staff were extremely friendly.

There was construction on the street outside which was quite loud. Obviously it wasn’t the hotel’s fault, but it did wake us up.

Bed was lovely and comfortable, very good location.

The room seemed a lot smaller than advertised. Also a bit confusing when booking as we booked a room with a bath and ended up receiving a shower. However when I checked my booking to make sure I didn’t book the wrong thing one area of description said No bath and another said bath AND shower so think that description just needs to be adjusted. I will say, the hotel is beautiful and historical however it does feel a little outdated. For the price you’re paying, you’d love to have a proper tv (chrome cast/screen mirroring even more so), bit more refreshing and also I think the size of some of the smaller rooms is not worth the price you are paying, despite the great location.

- Check-in easy nothing required but name - Location is fantastic, so central - Cork isn't a big city and most things were not far away in the city - Room was nicely furnished, looked better than pictures and was in very good condition - this was the smallest room but would be more than adequate even for a couple on a weekend break - Pleasantly surprised there was lots of plug points, including usb charging and even wirelss charger next to the bed - Quality bedding and very soft towels, very comfortable and cosy - Branded Paul Costelloe cosmetics in bathroom were nice touch - Bathroom exceptionally clean and made up - Rainfall shower powerful and refreshing - Housekeeping made bed up and cleaned bathroom despite only a two night stay which I appreciated

- No view from window and frosted vinyl also means not much light comes in. - Room was quite warm for me - no way to control heating as a guest and air-conditioning was quite drying which made sleeping a little uncomfortable as had sore throat and dry eyes - Shower could have done with a hand-held small spray in addition to rainfall shower as I don't wash my hair everyday so more difficult to keep hair dry - Staff were professional when I interacted with them, but not especially warm or friendly - I was hoping for a bit more of the warm down-to-earth Irish hospitality which other people have mentioned ^^These are all details though if I am being very picky, as it was overall an excellent stay and I would be more than happy to stay again if I am back in Cork sometime.

The hotel was beautiful and in a perfect downtown location. The room was absolutely wonderful. It was spacious and classy. We had a wonderful view of the river. The staff was so friendly and fun to talk with. The pub was great. There is offsite parking that wasn't too difficult to get to. It's a very short walk to the hotel. One thing to keep in mind is that the parking structure closes at 12am. You have to ask the front desk to open it for you or find a spot on the street in in front, which is what we did. We also paid for laundry service, which was a little pricy, but a nice perk.

There's an instant sense of calm and relaxation from the moment you enter the foyer. The hotel is luxurious without being overly ornate; it just makes you feel comfortable and at ease. Staff are incredibly helpful, especially with dietary requirements, and do all they can to accommodate. I was unsure about the room we had been allocated as it seemed smaller than the room I had booked. I only enquired to make sure it was correct, and was amazingly not just given a larger room but upgraded, which I hadn't demanded or expected at all, but it was a lovely gesture and much appreciated. The bed was very comfortable, and the ensuite spacious. I only wish I had been staying for longer!

Honestly there was nothing not to like. The staff really do go out of their way to help and provide excellent service.

It was eleven years since we'd last stayed at the Metropole and this grand hotel had a makeover in the intervening years which didn't disappoint. We knew already that it was the perfect location. Spotlessly clean comfortable rooms and although the walk to our room was a long one it was worth it for the view over the river. Reception staff were excellent from directing us to the carpark on arrival to recommending places to go that evening. Breakfast was very good with a great selection of hot and cold food and the wait staff were lovely. Even the toilet facilities off the lobby were great and were spotlessly clean. The clean crew obviously take great pride in looking after their hotel.

The stock situation in the bar was the only letdown to what was a most enjoyable stay. They had run out of Guinness, had no lemons for our drinks and the glasses, although clean, had smear marks from the dishwasher.

Old world charm with very central location. Lovely breakfast room at back overlooking the water so uninhibited view across of modern foot bridge to shopping area. Very good breakfast itself.

Guest must double park outside on the busy MacCurtain St depending on whether area outside hotel is free or not. Ticket to nearby car park is needed from reception. Is a minor complication. Allows though the very helpful porter to take ones bags before parking up at nearby multi-storey. Hotel would benefit from better marking on immediate road area outside with clearer marking of set down or maybe restricted 5-min limit to respect it for hotel patrons.

Customer service exceptional. In particular the concierge. Which saved this from being an average review.

Late check in meant we had a room at the back of the hotel with no outlook. The weather was unusually hot so the room was stifling with no air con and window could only open 6 inches. Fair to assume this wouldn't be an issue for most of the year though. I was under the impression the hotel had a pool, however it was empty and not in use. Perhaps the photo should be removed to avoid this confusion.
