Everything about Honjin was excellent - the staff, food, location, comfort, room. We felt very welcomed from the moment the hotel's driver met us at the train station to him dropping us back 5 days later. Everything was done with care and respect, with the customer always at the centre of their focus. We opted to have the meals included, and we weren't disappointed. Every night was a treat, and the breakfasts were excellent too. We tried the traditional breakfast one morning and glad we did. The location is great from which to explore this beautiful little town.

Service and attention to detail by hotel staff was exceptional. We had specific dietary requirements and all of it was met down to the minute detail. We also made a last minute request to the restaurant on premises and they accommodated this very well. Such wonderful staff and amazing hospitality. Location is in the middle of Takayama just a few minutes from the train station along with shuttle service - which makes it very convenient. Thank you so much for making our stay so memorable!!

The onsen experience was great - but a private / family onsen option would have made it even better.

the staff were very attentive . It was in a good location near the old town area . The food was exceptional, as was the staff that waited on us . The area that you eat in is called private dining and is made up of a set of small traditional rooms . you have your own attendant. It was very special . If you inform them ahead of time they will collect you from train or bus station free of charge in their car , and drop you off at the end of your stay . onsen was small , although if you chose to you could walk over the road to use the sister hotels onsen which was on the roof .

the room had an unpleasant smell. the amenities were not of a good standard . the bathroom and shower area was small , was expecting more in the price range .

We visited here one night only, but were blown away by the quality of the food and the exceptional service. The staff were all kind and made our honeymoon feel that much more special, including taking photos for us (which they gave framed to us later!) and a surprising gift as well. They fed us so much delicious food during breakfast and dinner as well, and we enjoyed every bite. I've been the numerous ryokans before, but this experience was truly a cut above. Would gladly go back given a chance, and loved the convenient location as well to explore Takayama. Can't recommend enough!

We could arrange for transport pick up from Takayama station. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast and dinner was really good. Can choose between jap or american breakfast. Dinner was kaiseki style. Walking distance to tourist spots. We were provided with yukata and sleeping clothes during the stay.

The breakfast and dinner timing are scheduled in advance. Unlike other hotels where we can go down for meals as and when ready. Also, you pay a bath tax even if you do not use the bath (onsen) facilities.

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! We chose to stay in the Japanese-style room which was very clean and spacious with comfortable futon beds. The personalised services provided by all the staff were excellent and greatly appreciated- from the shuttle service to and from the train station; very warm welcome and hospitality; complimentary tea and Japanese snack; and helpful assistance with anything and everything! We also loved the dining options that were provided for both breakfast and dinner. Each dish was a feast for the eyes and mouth- the food were all presented so beautifully, and the ingredients were fresh and of a high quality. It was indeed a treat staying in this beautiful Ryokan and I hope that many more people will also get to share this experience.

Perfect location！only 100m to ancient street. Big room, high-level service. Accomodate there, you could not only enjoy the hotspring in this hotel, but also other two in sister hotel (can birdview the town) and sister SPA (traditional Japanese-Style). Hotel restaurant is Michelin-recomended, as a foodie, I even think its Kaiseki quality is higher than some 1-star restaurant. Really appreicate my service staff Taki, a lovely girl, gentle and careful, hard learning Chinese:)

Loved the service here. Staff was excellent. The hotel is lovely.

I ordered two special orders of beef meals for both nights but I feel the quality of beef falls short of what Takayama is famous of. The meat also sliced too thinly. Perhaps the other small issue is being served by their international staff that maybe took away some of the cultural experience we’ve been having from ryokans across Japan

First time in a Ryokan so it was a very interesting and pleasant experience. Sleeping on futons was fine and the clothing provided to wear throughout the hotel - and in the street if you wanted to - added to the sense of the place. Not surprisingly the aura of the hotel was very different from the other hotels around Japan where we had stayed.

Nothing major to dislike but the room and bathroom/toilet facilities were not as sophisticated as we had experienced in other hotels.

The location was excellent. The food was terrific both breakfast and dinner are to a very high standard. Rooms and bathrooms facility are excellent the bathroom was for two people. My wife and I enjoyed the bathing facilities together. The staff excellent and could not hav been more helpful. Highly recommend this property and would go back at any time.
