Spacious, free drinks from evening to 11pm(sake, coffee, milk available), onsen available, zen room on request only, in room massage huge plus, family mart just next door, 2m walk to hida beef on senbei (cross road on sanmachi dori, look for kikura kami ninomachi & walk into the small street) **love that a food map was provided, good for those who did not research where to eat I will totally book this hotel again next year

Hotel is at least 15-20m walk from JR Takayama, so please take a bus from Nohi bus center instead. If you walk you will pass by all the food and souvenir shops so please drop your luggage then begin your food trip.

Location: Superb convenient. Its within walking distance to many attractions nearby of the traditional streets or takayama old town. The family mart is just right next door. Room: Stay in deluxe twin room and standard twin room. Deluxe room allows 3 bedding and comes with bathtub. Standard twin room comes with 2 bedding and no bathtub. Ned is comfy on tatami bed. Cleanliness: Very Clean. Deep cleaning and Light cleaning. Light cleaning only changes towels and trash clearance. It's good enough for us. Facilities: Public bath. A public bath with all necessaryamenities. It's usually quiet after 8pm. So you can go during that timing. There is yummy small popsicles for free after your public bath. Amenities: Ordered breakfast there. 3 timings , earliest 1st timing at 715am to choose for the breakfast. If you are early riser then eat in hotel. Otherwise most cafe opens at 8pm and shops around tradition street at 1030am at least. Breakfast is typical Japanese breakfast. Still good for me. Free flow of coffee and tea during morning. Free sake to taste during evening. Washing machine and microwave available. Washing 300yen and drying 100 yen..each 30mins.

I had an enjoyable and most comfortable stay. Feedback to public bath. One shoe taken off, the door is always not close . It can be less desirable if the door is not close. Suggestion: put signage to indicate. Please ensure door us closed all tunes.

We loved staying here! Just minutes walk from the centre of old town and close to other site seeing places in this small, but cozy little Japanese town. We loved having the washing machine and dryer just outside our door. I think they were on each level for the comfort of travellers. We were three in each room but did not feel cramped. There was enough room for all our bags and personal items. If we are ever so lucky to come back to Takayama, we would definitely stay here again!

We had a hire car but there wasn’t enough spaces right outside, so we had to park about a kilometre away. Wasn’t nice to walk back in the dark or in the rain.

The location was excellent - only 15 minutes walk from the station, and right next to the beautiful old houses of the Historical Houses Preservation Area. It was so atmospheric to stroll around the area in the evening as the sun was setting. The hotel itself was fantastic - the staff gave me a very warm welcome and my room was attractive, clean and comfortable, with all the little details thought of. I was drawn to the modern wooden architecture (it's in the name!) combined with more traditional influences - bed on a raised tatami area, attractive sliding window screen, Japanese breakfast, geta sandals to wear in the hotel, and especially the baths. I didn't use the shower in my room because I enjoyed the baths so much! It was so refreshing to scrub clean and then soak in the hot water after a day of walking around. In the corner of the changing room there was even a freezer with complementary ice cream so you could take one after your bath as you were leaving. The lobby/lounge area was well thought out with different comfortable seating, and I enjoyed tasting different sake varieties. The lounge is also where breakfast was served. The staff carefully noted my request for no meat and prepared a beautiful array of vegetable dishes for my breakfast which I really appreciated. On the day I checked out, the reception staff looked after my bagsso I could walk around without them on my last morning in Takayama, and I went to enjoy the morning markets for some last minute souvenirs. For the price I paid, for one of what must have been the more basic or smaller rooms, I was pleasantly suprised at how lovely it was (even for a higher price, it would have still been excellent). Aside from Takayama I also spent time in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Morioka. In these larger cities, I tended to choose more basic accommodation to control my overall spending, but I am so glad that I decided to go with Hotel Wood in Takayama. Thank you!

The architecture and design of the hotel are very impressive and tasteful, and the room very nice. The location could not be better, we were very pleased right in the center of the old town, with lots of sites and lovely shops and restaurants around us, and a corner store for some food basics just outside the hotel. Breakfast was Japanese style, which was really interesting and tasty. The evening complimentary drink was also very nice. The spa/Japanese bath was a great added bonus and really worth taking advantage of when staying at this hotel. Service was top notch, and I am happy to recommend this hotel to visitors to the LOVELY old town of Takayama.

Very minor: there were no (or not enough) robes for the spa in larger sizes... ;)

The staff were amazing. The best customer service we have received in 15 days f travelling in Japan. Perfect location right in the centre of historic Takayama town. The public bath was large enough very clean and a pleasure to use.

The beds mattresses were a tad hard and a bit uncomfortable the pillows were too soft and uncomfortable the common area furnishings were a bit office cafeteria like and not conducive to socialising or very inviting and not very comfortable although there was one set of 4 sofas with a round coffee table that one hits the mark

All staff were extremely professional, friendly, efficient and kind. They run a tight ship and go out of their way to help, whether it’s about booking a restaurant, shipping luggage, explain the surroundings etc. — everyone’s super friendly, too! Rooms are spacious and very clean, equipped with everything one could need from a 4-star hotel. The hotel has a bar that’s open between 5 and 10 pm where every drink is complementary, including alcoholic drinks such as beer or sake tastings. This is fantastic and truly appreciated from a customer perspective! It was a first for me. Washing machines and dryers are available for guests to use independently for very cheap, too, which is a godsend when you’ve been traveling for weeks. It’s only a few dollars ($5-6) to wash and dry your clothes, great idea. For comparison, a 4-star hotel in Tokyo asked us $50 to have laundry done.

Nothing extremely major, but there were a few quirks I didn’t particularly enjoy: - room was too dark during the day, not much sunlight gets through to the room and not many ceiling lights are installed - blinds don’t really do much, even when fully drawn daylight creeps in early in the morning - carpet in the whole bedroom area which gives a bit of a dated look, not ideal especially since the sink is located in the carpeted area, causing water drips etc. to affect the carpet in the long run. - futon is a bit hard if you’re not used to it, yet pillows are very, very soft and provide little support.

Beautiful hotel in an excellent location. Extra offerings such as the sentō (public bath) and free drinks in the evening (including saké tastings), were very welcome. The free drinks were very popular in the large lobby area. The rooms were well designed, with a lovely bath and shower, and some beautiful locally made wooden furniture.

The beds are very, very firm, which resulted in poor sleep. Unfortunately we didn’t realise until the morning we were leaving that mattress toppers were available, so highly recommend requesting one if you prefer a little more softness, especially if you sleep on your side.

Excellent location in Takayama just on the edge of the old town area and about 15 minutes walk from train station. Spacious rooms, with basic interiors. The beds are mattresses on a raised tatami floor which gives it a nice Japanese feel. The common lounge area near reception is great, with free drinks including beer, sake and a range of teas. Didn't try the onsen. A fairly simple hotel which is nicely designed to suit its surroundings, with a Japanese vibe and in a great location.

We had a twin room but only one chair to sit on and there is plenty of space for two.

The hotel met my expectations and looked pretty much like the pictures on their website! Location wise it was very easy to find. The hotel was very clean and really lovely! It had great facilities and the staff was very kind. It's right next to Sanmachi Street so it was easy to drop my luggage off and start exploring immediately. The room was quite spacious a great place to stay for a solo traveler.

It's about a 15 minute walk from the JR station so just expect to walk a bit once you arrive. There aren't too many restaurants open in the area for dinner so be prepared to either go out earlier or get food from the convenience store. Luckily there is a Family Mart right next door!
