Location near to Takayama train station, Nori bus station and restaurants. Walk to the station is less than 10 minutes. Check-in was efficient and rooms are not huge but spacious enough for 2. The beds are comfortable and love the wood-like bath tub n shower. They provide amenities such as tooth brush, cotton buds, shaver, shower cap, hair dryer and even tongs for hair. Upon check in, were given 2 drinks vouchers which we exchanged for coffee in the coffeehouse situated in the same location called Hida Cafe. Their morning set breakfast at 2200 yen consisted panini, yoghurt, a smoothie and choice of coffee. If you plan your use Takayama as a base to travel to Shirawagako or Shinhokata Ropeway, this hotel is highly recommended!

We booked the Suite with city view. Very nice spacious room with 3 beds. Beds are big, and comfy. The bathroom has a shower and a square bath. You almost feel you are in a 'spa'. Good tea and coffee pads. The hotel has only a few rooms with a beautiful cafe at the ground floor. You had to pick a breakfast time in advance so the table was reserved at Hid's Cafe & Bar, a popular place for hotel guests and others. Food was super healthy. Matcha Latte the best, coffee as well fabulous. Walking distance to the old town but also with some top restaurants in the street as well as izakayas near the train station.

The central location was great, so close to the train and bus stations as well as restaurants and sites. Our room was small, but very modern and clean, with a gorgeous timber bathroom. Breakfast was included and was Western, but there was no choice, it was set. Having said that, we enjoyed the smoothy, yoghurt and muesli pot, warm panini and side salad, together with a hot or cold drink. Our stay at this property was just right and the helpful staff made sure we enjoyed our time in Takayama.

The fact there wasn't any choice for breakfast. We would like to have been able to order something from the same menu that walk ins did.

This is a boutique hotel with maybe 12 rooms. We have like a mini suite it felt like on one of the higher floors. The beds were very comfortable and the beautiful wood bathtub was big enough for two people. Super clean and the breakfast was delicious panini meal and plentiful. We came back in the afternoon prior to our train to have coffee and dessert. Front desk was very helpful securing a dinner reservation when we arrived. Btw best to do that ahead of time as many of the well reviewed/ guidebook recommendations are booked up. So do that through Eph in advance if possible. This was one of our “budget” nights of our trip and we were very impressed.

There were no negatives.

- Breakfast was very nice but after two days we decided to eat out on our last day.. - We love that even though we did not use room service that they left us a bag with towels and amenities each day. - there is a washing machine on each floor to be shared between 3 rooms. We never had to wait. - Conveniently located between old town and the train/ bus station. Also great pharmacy and coffee shop round the corner called Brand New Day. Lots of eateries on the same street.

The room was small but typical of most hotels in Japan.

This hotel nicely combines some very Japanese elements with Western ones. For example, the bathroom had a wooden tub/shower combo. You will also find all the little extras that you frequently have in Japanese hotel rooms, such as toothbrushes, hairbrushes, etc. The hotel has a little cafe downstairs, which serves breakfast to guests and that has free coffee/tea/cocoa 8-20 every day. The breakfast was more like a US/European lunch - a panini, salad, and soup . That said, it was super fresh and tasty. The hotel is well located as well. It's a short distance from the train station, walkable even with luggage. It's also very close to the Takayama old town, the morning markets, etc. We would definitively stay here again!

Location - cannot be any better. If you are visiting Takayama with big luggages, i suggest you choose a hotel such as EPH which is very near to the station. Do not have to stay within the old town. We are glad we choose to stay in EPH.

There is nothing to dislike. It is a small hotel so if i have to dislike something I think it the lack of a lobby with comfy sofa to sit in. But you can sit in the cafe/breakfast restaurant which offer free coffee/tea from 8am to 8pm.

The location is amazing - 2 minutes walking from the train station and 5-10 minutes walking from Takayama's main attractions. The hotel is really small and cozy, overlooking a pedestrian street. The staff was really nice, spoke good English and helped us book a restaurant for dinner when everything around seemed to be already booked. We stayed in Takayama during the spring festival and the town was really busy with tourist. Because of that the price seemed a little higher but the hotel really delivered. The room was big, comfortable, modern. The beds were great for resting. The bathroom was wooden (nice touch) really well decorated and sparkling clean. We had various amenities at our disposal and comfy pajamas. The breakfast was nice - western style although we were expecting to have something Japanese which was a bit disappointing but it was prepared in front of us and was tasty and fresh. It was rainy during our stay and the hotel supplied free umbrellas. Overall we are super happy with our stay here!

We would have really loved to have Japanese style breakfast. But that's just personal expectations. The breakfast was really good nonetheless.

Eph Takayama has managed to create a very comfortable space and have accounted for all facilities in the limited space they have. You don't expect a iron board and iron to be managed in this space. The rooms are comfortably & thoughtfully designed to accommodate 2 people. We were very happy with our stay. It's centrally located and only abt 5 mins walking from the train and bus station.

The laundromat is very simple to use. The instructions were confusing which can be ignored.

Excellent location - 5 min walking distance; you see the eph sign on its grey building from the station. Some major sightseeing spots are within walking distance from the hotel. Many eateries are around. Functional layout of our double bedroom - more like a junior suite. Enjoyed the spa like bath. Friendly and helpful staff. Delicious and satisfying breakfast to start the day! Thank you to all the staff.
