Fantastic hosts - offering whiskey tasting even after we arrived quite late - a wealth of knowledge about the drink - sharing knowledge about the Lake District - taking care of every little detail that makes a stay worthwhile - thanks a lot.

We arrived at the Wayside and whisky barn on our motorbike after a long ride up from Cheshire for the Dave Myers (Hairy biker) commemorative ride. We had a very lovely welcome from Emiko. Check in was very straightforward, she showed us to our lovely room, room 1. The photos did not do it justice. Emiko has very high standards but this does not make the stay uncomfortable. The accommodation was immaculate, beds so comfortable We didn’t eat dinner there so can’t comment on that. We did have breakfast which was lovely and Doreen the lady that served our breakfast couldn’t do enough for us, you can tell she enjoys meeting people and enjoys what she does. We had a couple of drinks in the bar, that is a lovely comfortable space. Dan, Emiko’s husband is also very welcoming, chatting to me and my husband for a long while (shared interest of motorbikes) Just a lovely stay, will return again for a longer stay in the future. Beautiful location too. Thank you so much.

There wasn’t anything we didn’t like.

Lovely staff, clean and comfortable. Annex was gorgeous and breakfast perfect - good quality and very well cooked. Barnie (temperamental Spitzoodle) was welcomed and loved his treats. Location is fabulous for exploring the western lakes combined with the coast, particularly good for people who like the quieter areas. Lovely walks direct from the door up to the fells and down to the costal path.

Nothing! Only thing we would change is our own planning - if we’d have known how good the food was, we would have booked more evening meals in advance as the local pubs are few and far between and were nowhere near as good as the food on site!

Where to start! The Wayside and Whisky Barn is lovely, bright, cosy accommodation. Our room was large, bright and very comfortable. The large bed was lovely and so comfy. The TV was huge, the bath was amazing. We had an evening meal which was delicious! The food is so good here, including the breakfasts. The only very pedantic thing was that it would be nice to have the option of veggie sausages but I was more than happy with what I had. The choice in the Whisky barn is just amazing. My husband loves a tipple or two and there were so many to choose from, I think he was overwhelmed! Emikos knowledge was second to none. We loved our mini tasting session. Wed come back just for that! The location is beautiful and the views from the rear of the hotel were just stunning. Emiko & all the staff were so friendly, warm and accommodating. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back. Thank you for looking after us.

The Wayside & Whisky Barn ticked all the boxes. First class service, super comfortable beds, a beautiful roaring log fire in our bedroom and of course an amazing selection of over 150 whiskies. Not forgetting the delicious breakfasts with fresh home baked breads, plus we had a fantastic 3 course meal followed by Irish coffees on the Saturday night, total perfection. We will definitely be back soon.

Nothing at all. Even when it rained heavily we didn't care, with the log fire burning we just watched a movie in our room and drank whisky. 😍

From the moment Emiko welcomed us we realised we had found a real gem here. Somehow this property works it’s magic to bring a sense of calm rarely felt so quickly or deeply. Emiko’s friendliness and attention to detail shine throughout from being welcomed for breakfast by first names and the home baked bread for toast to the whisky themed toiletries. Emiko has created a place which I have no hesitation in recommending to friends or anyone else. If you enjoy a whisky let Emiko guide you through her impressive collection, you will not be disappointed. I can’t finish without a mention for the ever cheerful Doreen, the epitome of service with a smile.

Having to leave.

This is one of those rare cases that you immediately feel when entering the doorway - all the pieces fit together. The beautifully stylish way the old barn has been restored with respect for the historic details, the high comfort level that is provided through every little detail, the luxury feel offered by things like high quality bathroom products, two quality cushions on each bed (one soft, one harder) the subtle music playing, the lovely breakfast cooked to perfection, and most of all the warm hospitality offered by Emiko and her team, at all adds up to a feeling of being cared for. In Japan, this is called ‘Omotenashi’ and this is what I’ve truly experienced at The Wayside and Whisky Barn. Not to forget the excellent collection of quality whisky’s (including unique Japanese bottles) of which Emiko can tell you everyting in her own, friendly and attentive way. In the end I stayed five days instead of two as originally booked. Yes, truly perfect service does still exist.

As the name says, the Wayside is located next to a local road. But since the rooms are very well isolated, this was not an issue for me.

The Wayside was absolutely beautiful! Emiko and doreen could not do enough for you. The rooms/place and location was beautiful. We enjoyed our stay that much we are already planning on returning next year. The food was 10/10 and the whisky barn i think was my partners favourite trying different ones and emikos knowledge on whisky made it even better. If your looking a relaxing stay and a great view i would not hesitate to book

Absolutely nothing!!
