Location (it’s truly the best!), excellent breakfast, wonderful staff, big room with balcony and very large bathroom! Seriously though- the location. it’s beautiful and also right in the center of all of Lisbon. the rossio train station is about 3 min walk (need this for Sintra), and the 28 tram is about a 5 min walk. the river is about a 7 min walk. it’s all here. Theres also an elevator which is great after all the hills too ;)

it’s a outdated, which you can see from the photos, but that’s inconsequential compared to the friendly staff, breakfast and phenomenal location.

The location is super - close to everything and very central. Rooms are good and depends on room category booked. Breakfast spread basic and could be improved - but the eggs and bacon made up for it. Have to give credit to all the staff - Tania, Vasco, Joao, Marco, Sandra, Isobel, Ruben, Catia and Carlo - who were very accommodating and went the extra length to help us out.

Elevator should go straight up / down to and from the room level and not stop at level 1 all the time. The long bath should have a rubber mat - to prevent a fall from a slippery bath tub.

This hotel is ideally located in the historic part of Lisbon with easy access to all of the amenities. At present, it is undergoing a refurbishment but hope they keep and highlight the art deco features. The hotel staff were always very friendly and helpful especially 'Jack ' who took the time out to tell us which were the best places to visit. Thank you also to the receptionist who recommended an authentic Portuguese restaurant on our last night which we would never have found.

A toaster at breakfast would have been another nice facility. No tea/coffee making facilities in the room.

For a 3 star hotel this place didn't let down. The room was spacious and clean, and it was close to all the tourist places in Lisbon.

I have to say that while the location is nice, if you are a light sleeper, this place might be too noisy. You can hear all the street performers and the guests from the restaurants below late into the night. Unfortunately, the hotel was in the process of removing the hallway carpet on the floor where our room was and the smell of industrial glue was pretty strong. The smell didn't get into the room but every time we went in and out we had to deal with it.

Location is exceptional, in the very center of the historic district. There is a nice outdoor cafe next door. Breakfast is very good. The staff is helpful. Room was clean, though somewhat outdated.

There are no English channels on TV (we try to keep up with the news, even on vacation). The safe in the room did not have a lock, so we could not use it. The 2 wardrobes had lights inside that wouldn’t turn off. The carpet needs to be replaced.

Excellent location. Close to everything. A short walk to the beach. 2 markets nearby (around the corner) that carry anything you might need, including fresh bread and delicious hot roasted chicken for about 6 euros. Pingo Doce is the market we loved. At the reception desk, João (aka John) was wonderful, helpful, and has lots of sight-seeing advice. There was also a very nice lady with glasses who was present at breakfast time and also did housekeeping. I'm sorry I did not get her name but she was also wonderful. Breakfast was very good. Lots to choose from: eggs, bacon, fresh cut fruit like melon, kiwi, pineapple. There were breas, rolls, cheese, mortadella, ham, yogurt, cereal, etc.

Ok, so here are some things you should know: they advertise air conditioning BUT it only is activated after May and our room got very warm on the 5th floor. Also, we had a twin bed in our room for 3 and it was very uncomfortable. I could feel the springs and the matress was hard. Maybe a foam topper would help. The sofas in the lobby definitely need to be replaced. The cushions are all flat and they are just old and faded. The carpet on our floor was also old and stained. At night you can hear everything from the Plaza. Double pane windows would help insulate the noise. Overall, I believe it was a nice place to stay, and I would return.

Great location, walking distance from the metro, the breakfast was great, and really friendly staff. The front desk staff (Virgilio and Bruno) helped me book a trip to Fatima, Nazare, and Sintra, Thank you! Many restaurants, coffee shops, and bus routes are close by. If they fix the wifi issue, the hotel would be 10 stars for me. Remember, some of us are international travelers and need wifi to communicate back home. The hotel feels like you are traveling back in time to the 1950s; very authentic and historical. The metro close by takes you from and back to the airport.

I loved everything except the wifi went down in the room. Had to use the McDonald's wifi across the street or from the lobby area. Everything else was great!

Nicely located on the busiest pedestrian square in Lisbon. Our entire floor had recently been renovated, and the hallway and rooms were the nicest in the hotel - lucky us! Breakfast at the hotel was exceptionally presented by hotel staff and busy but never crowded. Front desk staff was polite and helpful.

By mid-priced, centrally-located, European-city hotel standards, I cannot say that there was anything we didn't like about Hotel Metropole. It's a very good 3-star hotel that could earn a 4th star if they brought the paint, carpet, woodwork, and furniture of the rest of the hotel up to the level they did for our floor.

Location is brillian, close to everything. Room was large with balcony ( handy for smokers— which I am not anymore) great view over Praca Do m Pedro and up to the Castle . All staff at reception etc very friendly and helpful. I don’t bother with breakfast so I can’t comment. Small fridge in the room which is handy Some other comments go on about it needing upgraded but so what. I did hear some work going on in some rooms so it’s maybe it’s in progress. Private taxi arranged for going to the airport— only 16 Euros. I got ripped off by an airport taxi when I arrived. I should have booked one through the hotel— stupidly I didn’t.

WiFi was patchy but I could pick up one called Tena no problem so I used that. No tea/ coffee making facilities but took travel kettle with me. The fridge was handy for the milk. 5 or 6 tv channels only. No English speaking ones like BBC World News but not the end of the world.

Ideal central hotel which made it easy to walk or catch transport to major sights in and around city. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Our room and bathroom were very large and kept very clean. Lots of fresh food for breakfast including eggs and bacon, pastries and fruit. Good coffee!

The lighting in our bedroom was too dim. A toaster is needed in the breakfast room.
