The location was perfect for exploring the surrounding area. The staff were so very welcoming and helpful, thank you Nicky for your recommendations and for looking after us so well. We spent a few hours on Holy Island, far more to see than we expected, perfect weather, stunning seascape and the vast Northumbrian skies. The Inn is one of the nicest we have stayed in. Our room was very comfortable, immaculate, a good bathroom with a walk in shower and we slept well. We particularly enjoyed the choice at Breakfast, freshly cooked to order, the Full English kept us going all day. The staff were cheerful and friendly and ensured a good start to our day. The evening menu offered a number of choices including Fish and Chips plus the trimmings and the best Steak and Ale Pie I’ve ever tasted. I would love to stay at the Black Bull again and look forward to returning next year to explore more of beautiful Northumbria.

Nothing comes to mind. I honestly can’t think of any aspect of our stay which could be improved. One thing I will mention is that this is a very popular Inn and would recommend booking for Dinner.

Superb choices for breakfast from Continental to Full English and everything in between. We dined in on the first night and were impressed enough to dine in for the next three nights. Why go out looking when you have excellence on your doorstep. Our room was excellent. Good size, enough space to drop our stuff and then swing a cat too. Ambience of the Inn was perfect. Quiet rural location, but the Inn was obviously well used by people near and far as the Inn itself was never quiet during our stay. Staff very attentive and helpful throughout. The Inn has ample parking for private cars. Would I go back, well I live in the Highlands of Scotland, so not just around the corner, but yes, I will be back.

No moans at all.

The pub itself is gorgeous. lovely setting, we had breakfast outside and the church bells were ringing, it’s quiet not a busy road and had a peaceful sleep. rooms had all that was needed was clean and comfy and tastefully decorated. Nice touches such as water, biscuits plenty of tea etc. Bed was really comfy. the lady at breakfast time was great, friendly attentive. the breakfast was fantastic I had vegan which was beautiful and there was such a good selection of extras, nice touches like tea pigs teas, tiptree jam etc no corners cut.

This property is an excellent gastro pub/inn. Although it's an old building, the whole property has been upgraded to a high standard and the rooms are very comfortable (good shower, comfy bed etc.). What really makes the Black Bull stand out is the food, it is absolutely fantastic and extremely good value for money given the restaurant standard quality. We would highly recommend this place if your staying in the area or even just passing through for the night. This is the second time we've stayed here and I fully expect we will stay there again.

We can't think of anything that can be improved at The Black Bull Inn.

We were 5 walkers doing the St Cuthbert's Way. Due to a wrong turn, and 2 of us carrying knee injuries, we found ourselves late and slow with about 4 miles to go. I phoned the Black Bull for the number of a taxi to pick us up. They said there wasn't one, but they'd come and get us. Sue was so kind and helpful and even took us back onto the Way the following day to finish the walk. Sue refused to take any payment, so, big tip in the tip jar. In addition, the bedrooms are beautifully decorated, the Sunday dinner was delicious, and they have Tea Pig teabags for breakfast! Can't recommend the Black Bull enough.

Emmmm......... nope, nothing.

I think I arrived on quite a busy night and I booked dinner. The bar area was very busy but even though the same staff were working the bar and the restaurant area, they were really on the ball with taking your order, bringing the next course, etc, I was very impressed with that. The food was good and the room was great - the only reason for a 9 rather than a 10 was the car park is entirely gravel - this only matters to motorcyclists but it can be quite a tricky surface to ride over, and to park up on. There is a small area around the side that has concrete and you can put your side stand down on that.

Warm welcome on arrival. Fenton (Room #14) very nice - new build extension to Pub/ Hotel. Room Actually Impeccable. Hazel the cleaner. Only -ve is dull noise (vibration like) from someplace !!! But stops at 9pm so not an issue for sleeping. Cosy little bar - very Village Pub'ish. WiFi good. Food good - varied Menu. Definitely would stay again.

Suggestion : I would have situated the bed on the long wall so looking out the window - nice view towards village rather than looking at internal wall ! Curtain on lower half of window would offer more privacy.

An old building refurbished comprehensively in a modern somewhat 'spare' style, but outstandingly clean and tidy inside and out. Bedroom facilities including shower room, especially good and well maintained. Food was well above average pub grub with an emphasis on local produce - game dishes especially good. Staff were friendly and efficient.

Bedroom view was of the car park only. Nowhere much to sit for residents after meals, as all downstairs areas dedicated to food/drink consumption.

Well the truth is, we loved everything about the Black Bull Inn. First, the price was very low for a first rate Inn. Second, the pub was phenomenal with a large selection of locally produced gins and several good beers on tap, including cask ales. The bar keep and the manager were young men who were very engaging and knowledgeable about everything local, from gin to wine to food and sports. The Inn seemed to be newly refurbished and was super clean. The dinner menu featured several local game and fish offerings as well as locally sourced beef. The food was AWESOME. And the wine list was small but deep, with several red and white Burgundies, red Bordeaux and various other well chosen wines. Breakfast was equally delicious. The staff were friendly and genuine. I'd love to return for a longer stay and do some fishing. Oh, and the bed was big and comfortable.

You'd have to be a scrooge to find something wrong with the Black Bull Inn.

Lowick The Black Bull Inn What a great find. We had no idea what this place would be like. I seriously just googled places close to Holy Island and found this place. Wow it was awesome a very quaint village with an amazing pub. Our room was beautiful and spacious, the bed was huge and comfortable. The shower was great with really hot water and good pressures. Our room was ground level at the back. There was no noise whatsoever. Dinner in the restaurant was sensational. Restaurant must be popular as it was packed. Breakfast was a good selection of cereals, croissants and a hot menu to choose from. We had eggs and they were cooked to perfection. We highly recommend this hotel it was a great stay. It is less than 10 minutes to Beal and Holy Island.

Everything was spot on
