Mabie House Hotel

Excellent breakfast, efficient and friendly service, a very attractive dining room. Equally excellent dinners, with plenty of choice and daily specials too. Meals all beautifully cooked and served and very generous portions. Flowers and candles a nice touch on every table. We had a very peaceful happy few days here. Our room was very comfortable with a lovely outlook over the gardens and the scent of the yellow azaleas on the gentle breeze was a delight. The period charm of such a country house is precious, keep and value what you have. We were sorry to leave.

Nothing different at all! This is a gracious country house hotel, doing what it does wonderfully. Such hotels are treasures. The team here seemed to us to have got hospitality absolutely right. Just keep it up please. Thank you all very much.

Everything as soon as we drove up the road to it I fell in love, the reception was so friendly and welcoming helped carry our cases up to our room, I would say this place is the best hotel I haven stayed in. the evening menu was fabulous the food was amazing and the Scottish breakfast was out of this world. I felt I was in the Downton Abby tv series era nothing was to much for the staff we wanted extra fresh milk for our coffee in our room and they got it no problems. The grounds are beautiful and the forest is breathtaking.We shall be returning very soon I felt and was treated like a lady I loved the whole experience

Everything! what a stunning location the evening meal was exceptional and all the staff were amazing. We had our blind dog and the staff couldn’t do enough for us, she’s on a bland diet and prescription diet which she wasnt fussy on and the chap at breakfast gave her a wee bowl of scrambled egg. Tha table in Reception was already set out for us coming down for breakfast. Had the best night sleep in ages and Basil the parrot was gorgeous chatting away!

Nothing absolutely faultless!

Beautiful location, we had a spacious and traditionally decorated room with a lounge area and a super comfortable bed - we both slept really well at Mabie House. The hotel is full of authentic character. The full Scottish breakfast was delicious and all the staff we encountered were polite, friendly and helpful.

There were a few dusty areas - but not excessively so. WiFi isn’t available in all rooms due to range but staff explained that WiFi was relatively new to the area full stop. Our room had a good enough mobile signal for us to use mobile data anyway.

Given the 'bridal suite' when we requested a large dog friendly room. It was enormous, very comfortable, no dog odour! View beautiful. Food was lovely, staff very helpful. Yes, dogs should not be on furniture, but look at her! 😍 Don't put you'r finger in Basil the Parrots cage!'🤣

Only one thing - cups for tea/ coffee in room too wee! Will bring mugs NEXT TIME - because there will be a next time 🥰

Lovely friendly staff and an incredible location for mountain biking. At the trailhead of Mabie Forest 7 stanes, 25 minutes from dalbeatie and 28 minutes from forest of AE. Breakfast was excellent and the evening meal we had was fantastic, great menu and lovely food. Charming, well kept old property with wood panelled walls and a fire, very comfy bed and huge room. A great choice, would recommend.

Shower in my room could do with a revamp, low pressure and constantly slid down.

Loved the grounds the hotel was located in. With forest walks and a play park a short walk away. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Room was cosy and comfortable. Dog was not a problem to them at all. Lovely breakfast in the morning. Loads of free parking. A friendly parrot to talk to!

It was a bit of a trek out of Dumfries but that wasn't much of an issue as we had a car. Could have done with internet connection extended to the rooms as there was no mobile phone signal on the 3 network or ID mobile network.

The scenery, the atmosphere, the olde worldliness the chance to switch off was all wonderful. Attentive staff, very comfy bed, fresh towels daily free toiletries. Wonderful stay in the middle of a forest yet with all the modern day comforts you would expect from a hotel. I will definitely be returning.

Full fat uht cartons in the rooms. Feather pillows although a fibrefill one was provided when asked.

The setting, grounds, ambience, decor, size of room, quality of the food were all excellent

The staff on the Saturday evening when we arrived were welcoming and the service at dinner was friendly and excellent even though the hotel was hosting a large wedding reception. However, breakfast service was a different matter. It was at the best erratic and confusing and at worst, chaotic and unacceptably slow.

So much more impressive in real life versus the photos online - beautiful building, well looked after with polite helpful staff. Rooms are comfortable, food is excellent - beautiful rural location with gorgeous views. Breakfast was lovely.

WiFi in only the public areas might put some people off, water pressure in the shower was ok but not wonderful.
