Hour Glass Hotel

Seb the manager was very good and was always there if needed, very accomodating in the bar, especially with the various TV sports channels available. Nice & quiet room. Room was cleaned regularly, plenty of facilities within the room and in the communal kitchen if required, including washing machine and tumble dryer. Only a 30 minute walk to London Bridge, 15 minute walk to Old Kent Road, handy bus stop just outside the hotel for buses into and back from the city if you don't fancy the walk. Local mini market a couple of minutes walk away, big supermarket on Old Kent Road. Various takeaways in the locality if required.

Nothing really, it's not advertised as a luxury hotel, so you know what you are getting and it didn't disappoint.

The staff was really friendly and helpful they made us feel welcome and made sure if we needed anything they sorted it straight away, Location was a big factor as we needed it to be close to a underground so we could travel easy around London, with Elephant and castle just up road and with buses regularly taking us too and from right outside the hotel it was awesome for this. Then price 3 of us two rooms side by side for 3 nights Friday, Saturday and Sunday no where else came close to matching price this has a backpack mentality to its customers but was perfectly suitable for me, my friend and her daughter. There is a lovely little lake just a minutes walk away from hotel beautiful wild life and nice area to unwind

First night was a struggle not on the fault of the hotel but a guest had been out to a concert got wasted on drugs or alcohol and fell out the taxi the staff did everything they could to help him get sorted but with it been first night it was loud with ambulance arriving and shouting outside etc but again this was not the fault of the hotel and they did everything to help the guy .

The rooms are situated above, The Hour Glass Pub. A good ol' English boozer and there aren't many left like this one! Drinks offers and well priced drinks keeps a steady flow of the regulars coming back each day, until late. You'll find all the Sports on the big screens. From live horse racing, football, rugby, cricket, tennis, or go for the bullseye with a game of darts in the bar?! Whatever tickles your fancy, wherever you are from, if you want to experience the real london, do it like the locals! For the bargain bookers on a tighter budget these Basic but brilliant bedrooms and big, bright bathrooms just cannot be beaten!!! Knowledgeable, friendly, hardworking staff from all over the place. Nice bunch of real people who will go out of their way to make your stay the best that London has to give.

Location was good for visiting Kings College hospital. Staff were lovely, very accommodating and kind and friendly. They turned what could have been a very lonely and scary experience into something much more bearable. Room was clean and had lots of windows, and a fan was provided which was nice for ventilation during the very hot week that I stayed. Having use of the kitchen was good and there were pizzas on offer from the pub downstairs for about £7 which is really reasonable for London prices (although I didn't have one so can't comment on how good they are!). There was even a desk in the room so I could get some work done! Even though bathrooms were shared they were kept very clean and tidy. I wasn't expecting the Ritz...it's a cheap stay in Camberwell but it did the job and was in a good location for what I needed and the staff absolutely made my stay, thank you!

Bit of an unpleasant smell through the main hallway a while after cleaning had been done, however it was kept really clean every day. The fridge in my room didn't work on arrival, however the staff changed it for another as soon as I mentioned it. When I had a shower in the shower room on my floor the automatic lighting decided to turn off shortly after I got under the water so I showered in the dark which was slightly annoying! Could do with adjusting the sensor in that room!

The personnel was very helpful, especially with regard to storing our bikes. The visitors at the bar were very kind as well, we enjoyed staying there.

We know London can be kind of shabby, it is part of the charm of visiting. It is a pity however the neighbourhood is so bad. We hope the renovation that is going on will soon upgrade the housing around the hotel as well. The bar and hotel itself however is very nice, and really upgrades the entire place.

Very nice and helpful people, who also run the Irish pub next to the rooms. For the price range everything was solid. Public transport via bus or tube was near, as were supermarkets, etc. Good if you need a place to sleep for a few nights.

At least the room I was in had not much space to put my belongings and the building, the floors, and furniture have some years on them. In that price range ok though.

The room was a good size with a comfortable bed. The location around the hotel was a bit run down but had a good bus service very close to the hotel making it easy to get around. Apart from a few noises that seemed to be related to a problem with the toilet flush system it was a quiet room. The staff were great too very friendly and helped with my issues.

While the room overall was clean the kettle I got was not cleaned properly but I got this changed for a clean one. It seemed there was a problem with the toilet flush system so every 10 mins I would hear a loud sound of the system refilling the water reservoir.

The room was designated as a double-bed room, but was definitely larger than a double-bed room. It would have been possible to provide enough space for 3-4 people even. So I felt very comfortable and had a lot of space for myself which was very good. The shower and toilet facilities were clean and equipped with soap, shampoo and shower lotion. The bathroom was small, but there was enough space for one person to use it without issues. In terms of rubbish collection, it was also useful to have a rubbish bin inside the room. All in all, I think Hour Glass Hotel is a good place for single travellers to stay for one or a few nights.

Some corners of the main room, the bedroom, could have been a bit cleaner. I recognised a bit of dust there, but apart from that, the entire double-bed room was clean and tidy. When I wanted to leave, I found it hard to find the place where to deposit my room key. In the end, there was a box with a small sign on the ground floor. It would maybe be worth of putting a sign on the wall of each floor which describes where to deposit the room key. All in all, it was only a small issue. When I called the responsible hotline of the hotel, I received a good explanation where to put the keys.

Clean, comfortable & convenient accommodation on the outskirts of Zone 1, above a good ol' English boozer serving sensibly priced drinks and home made pizzas. Some rooms offer en- suite bathrooms but if you have a budget to stick to, rooms with shared bathroom facilities are a great option. There's more than 1 loo on each floor, 1 offering a huge rain shower and another spacious bathroom with a lovely bath with overhead shower. Admittedly, its not really in the prettiest part of town but its super close to Burgess Park which has been great. Overall, for me it worked perfectly. Thank you all!!

A simple but clean and tidy room. really nice welcome and the gentleman who booked us in and took us to our room was fabulous. explained everything and even gave us information about the local area. room is basic and a bit tired but it is clean and they have thought of all the extras including shower gel!! Also complimentary tea and coffee in the room and even a fridge!!
