The Blue Ball Inn

We were surprised at how clean, modern and comfortable the room was. The pub and rooms have clearly benefitted from a lot of investment recently and it felt very upmarket while not losing the feel of a traditional country inn. Rooms were kitted out with Nespresso coffee makers and toiletries were local spa products. The staff kindly catered to our need for an early breakfast, which was really nice and cooked to order.

The location is on a relatively fast road but as its a quiet countryside location there wasn't really any traffic to keep us up at night.

Friendly welcome to this lovely pub in Sidford. Very convenient after a day in charming Sidmouth. The restaurant had been busy with Sunday carvery but the receptionist sorted a table for us for dinner. Lovely crab and prawn linguine. Comfy room, coffee maker with Cafe pods was a bonus. Lovely range of full size toiletries in the en suite. Delicious breakfast the next morning.

Sadly the crumble pudding hubby ordered for dessert took far too long to arrive as the restaurant had got busy again. The road outside is very noisy, but luckily we were tired and managed to sleep through it.

I thought it was a very friendly hotel with spacious comfy rooms with good facilities (coffee/tea/toiletries all great). Lovely that dogs are so welcome. Plenty of parking. Good pub garden. Breakfast was superb. Lovely 2 mile walk/run on easy footpaths to the beach. And there are buses back! Friendly reception when we arrived and good communication before.

It is next to a main road with the car park on the other side. I was a little worried about the dog running out across the road but of course you just make sure you keep them safe on lead. There is a bit of noise from the road.

Huge room, lovely decor, very comfy bed. Appreciated the home made cookies and Nespresso maker. Huge shower room/ wet room. Good shower. Very nice shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and hand cream; all for sale in reception. Great cooked breakfast included. Really good Sunday roast in the pub restaurant, and no need to book as guests of the hotel.

We had the ground floor room, right by the road. We were aware of the road noise and worried that it would keep us awake, but it didn't. In fact the volume of traffic decreased significantly after 9.30 pm, so all was good.

We stayed at The Blue Ball Inn for 4 nights. We ate at the pub 3 nights out of those 4 due to the quality of food and service rather than going out in the local area. It was good honest pub food with a focus on quality rather than “frills”. Highly recommend the breakfast and the coffee/tea. The member of staff who checked us in and served breakfast during our stay was very attentive and helpful. The draught and drink selection was also very good, not extensive but a good selection of spirits and ales to suit anyone. The room was clean, well maintained and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. The shower and bath were spotless and the toiletries and towels provided were of a good quality too. We had a room adjacent to the road and slept with the window open every night. The road noise did not bother us at all however there are also rooms to the back of the pub as well if you are put off by this. By far the most outstanding thing however was the service. Nothing was too much trouble, we were made to feel very welcome and comfortable by all the staff especially the managers Martyn and Shelley. If you want to stay in the area (and there is a lot to do nearby) we cannot recommend The Blue Ball Inn enough. We will be returning.

We know this pub well because we use it for visiting family in the area. Because my husband has mobility issues we had asked for a specific room when we booked and repeated this request in a subsequent email directly with Blue Ball. The room booking was confirmed but when we arrived we had been allocated to a different room. Luckily we were able to get this mistake rectified when we arrived but we would not have been so pleased had they not been able to change us to the room we had originally asked for.

We had to be relocated due to a very bad experience from the Barn and Pinn cottage B&B, what started as a very stressful experience was made into a lovely relaxing stay thanks to all the staff at the Blue Ball but especially because of Sophie and Abbie, both of whom went above and beyond to make our stay extra enjoyable 😀

The Barn and Pinn cottage and their appalling greedy attitude... they could learn a lot from the Blue Ball.

Location is brilliant. It’s a lovely walk straight into Sidmouth, but far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the town. Perfect! The pub is beautifully stylised and well looked after. Lovely garden too. The rooms are perfect. They have everything you need and the beds are comfy. The staff are friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. Especially at breakfast! Thank you for a lovely stay.

It’s a shame that the bar shut relatively early. After dinner in town, we could have done with a nightcap ahead of heading off to bed, but the staff had already packed up and the bar was closed (circa 10:15pm).

The pub from the outside was outstanding. Beautiful hanging baskets all the way round. Pub inside was of very high standards and so was our room spotless. The staff were very helpful and courteous. Lovely gardens to sit and relax in although a bit noisy from the main road right outside. Breakfast was exceptional.

location glad we stayed at the back as very busy road at front of property. would advise you ask for a room at the back. Evening menu could of been better not a lot of choices. Two vegetarian options both were salads, really needed to add to the menu. We both choose the charter pie and couldn’t fault it at all. And the fruit pie with clotted cream very expensive £7.50 but we shared and was delicious. check the menu on line and if they have a room at the back before booking.

Location was perfect as I was planning to leave early morning after breakfast, travelling to M5 and North It is close to Sidmouth and only a few miles from Lyme Regis and the other beach resorts Good choice of food for evening meal and there was a wide selection of food for breakfast They even found me a smart plug for my phone as battery was flat!

As I was on the ground floor, unfortunately you could hear the traffic buzzing past, even at 1.45a.m.! But as it was for one night only, it was fine.
