Our stay was impeccable,,we felt like part of the family,nothing was to much trouble,Daisy and Simon were just the best as we're all thier staff,,super accommodating and that's why we will be booking again for next year. Couldn't ask for a better place to stay,I would highly recommend a super stay at this beautiful pub,,it's also central to all the beautiful places to visit,breakfast is all layed on and you can come and go as you please. Can't speak highly enough of the accommodation,friendliness,cleanliness and over all relaxed experience we had. Just perfect👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻absolutely can't wait to go back.😃😃😃😃❤️XXXXX

Truely nothing

The reception was good and we were shown to our rooms and helped with our bags. The 2 rooms were separate but connected by a lobby and single door which met our circumstances very well. The rooms were plenty large enough with a gd size bathroom, generous shower and toiletries and towels. The room had tea and coffee making facilities with fresh milk in a fridge outside our rooms. The beds were very comfy with white fresh linen and good storage with bedside lamps. The evening meal was most enjoyable and the hostess was very helpful and kind with an ...on the house dish given as well as our chosen dishes. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, including the chef who came in early to make us breakfast before normal breakfast time as we had an early booking elsewhere . We helped ourselves to cereals, juice , toast and jams . We also had a varied and generous selection of cooked breakfasts to choose from. The full English and vegetarian alternative were excellent as were the maple pancakes. The host helped us to the car to get the early start we had requested. There was also convenient parking close to the main entrance. I would highly recommend the Balfour inn. Sidmouth.

Perhaps a few more varieties of cereal although what we had was sufficient and enjoyable.

Breakfast was a good choice of cereals a toaster to make your own from supplied brown and white bread, ample butter,and sunflower spreads as well as jams honey spreads tea and coffee...then a full English cooked breakfast which was brilliant nice and hot and plenty on the plate. On our arrival we were warmly greeted by Becky and shown the facilities which included a small fridge/cooler outside our room with fresh milk and water available for drink making in the room. tea and coffee and biscuits were provided. Large towels and a selection of shampoo and body wash for the shower...clean bedding on a giant bed which was super comfortable...yes there was the usual and expected pub noise as we were over thebar and poolroom but at closing all was fine and there was little traffic noise thanks to the additional glazing...all in all great value. The new Licensees were great friendly guys and made us really welcome...We will definitely be staying here again.

Our stay at the pub was great so there was nothing that we did not like.

Lovely big comfy bed, good size bathroom bedrooms clean and fresh. Hairdrier in room, fresh milk and water readily available. Ample and tasty breakfast and good evening entertainment with a lively quiz . Good menu and friendly staff

Dining room although roomy was in need of a spring clean ie tables were a bit sticky and carpet could use a freshen up,. I'm sure this is due to be done ready for summer influx and I know it's not long changed hands so sure its on the plan, it didn't spoil our enjoyment tho

Fabulous. Spotlessly clean. Lovely comfortable bed. Beautiful bathroom with a fabulous shower and a heated towel rail! (lost count how many much more expensive hotels I have been in that don't have one!) Staff were wonderful, really friendly and thoughtful. We had dinner in the evening which was marvellous and the breakfast was fantastic.

There was nothing not to like it's lovely - if I had to say something - The rooms are above the pub - you will get some noise but that was to be expected and to be honest it was quiet by 11. (Again, I have stayed in much more expensive hotels where the noise levels were much more - banging doors and thoughtless guests etc.)

Room was exceptional, massive comfy bed, freshly decorated, wonderful shower. Breakfast was amazing, cooked to order we didn't eat again all day! They had entertainment on (its a pub after all) which we thoroughly enjoyed. Simon the landlord was friendly and funny. They put tea and biscuits in the room, with cute little bottles of milk in the fridge outside and coffee in a small pot instead of those packets so enviromentally friendly. We loved it, and would have rebooked but it was booked up :(

Nothing

Good value for money compared to other hotels in Sidmouth. A friendly family run business with the owner (Deborah) focusing on giving the best for her customers yet supportive of her staff. Ample sized room with an enormous and comfortable bed and well appointed en-suite with shower. Particularly liked the fridge on the landing that held chilled water and milk available to guests. Although alongside a busy road the traffic effectively stopped after 11 pm to give a peaceful night's sleep. We had an evening meal - freshly cooked, ample portion sizes, and local produce where possible. Good choice of beers, ciders, and wine - bottle of wine cheaper than most pubs we've been too recently. Very enjoyable. Breakfast the following morning was again very good.

Location is about 1 mile from the seafront - although this is walkable for the an able bodied person. The rooms are accessible by stairs only so this may not suit those with mobility issues. We stayed mid week and had excellent service for both evening meals and breakfast - unable to comment on wait times at weekends. Some previous guests had pointed out that there are live bands performing - however, these are restricted to 1 day per month, so check dates if that is not to your liking.

We were traveling very late due to traffic and rang the hotel to advise them. We asked if food would be available and they not only arranged for a gluten free fish and chips meal to be cooked but the chef stayed on to ensure it was cooked fresh for us. The rooms are beautifully clean and spacious, we loved meeting Portous the pub dog. They even have a doggy menu for visiting dogs. We were so impressed with the warm friendly welcome and genuine care. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay. We will be booking your rooms next year, I promise

Leaving

The food was excellent good service and a nice choice of menu for evening meal - Breakfast cereals choice of juices and then ordered cooked breakfast which we both opted for and it arrived- Perfect Comfortable sitting area for relaxing in area behind dining area 2 lovely comfy sofa's and a book exchange table whereby you can swap your reading book for another. Bedroom was really comfortable superking bed and fresh milk & large bottled water in fridge. Spotless room 10/10 great nights sleep - We will return !

No comp;aints at all (unusual for me) as I am really fussy !

Comfortable friendly community pub, lovely pies! Warm welcome, room was very well equipped. Large comfortable bed, lovely rain cloud shower and fresh milk and water in the little fridge in the hallway was much appreciated. We ate in the pub in the evening and the food was good. Very convenient for visiting Sidmouth, the seafront is a 10 min drive away. Bit apprehensive about staying in a pub in a room above the bar, but as other reviewers have said, we found it all went quiet by about 11.30pm. The road outside goes quiet through the night too. Plenty of parking too which was great.

Can't think of anything. Will be happy to stay again :)
