The best part of our stay was the hospitality of the proprietors Nick and Chen, they are lovely people who were so friendly and helpful, they really helped to make our holiday memorable so thank you both very much. The full english breakfast cooked by Nick and served by Chen were superb every morning, the best we have ever had at a hotel .We also had cereal, fruit, yogurt as well as as much toast as we could eat in addition to tea and biscuits.We were full up to start our days sightseeing , I especially recommend Nicks breakfast ham and cheese omelette as it is fantastic !! Our room was on the top floor (number 12), it is one of the smaller rooms and a bit snug as we brought a lot of clothes for our 7 night stay, however, the room was warm, clean and comfortable with an excellent quality wall mounted TV and a decent sized ensuite bathroom with a good quality eco shower.We slept very well at night as the room was so quiet, we did not hear any noise from other guests or outside the hotel during our entire stay. The hotel also has private off street free parking and is located a very short walk down a gentle slope to the town harbour where there are lots of bars.

We had the water in our room turned off on our last night due to a small leak, so we couldn't shower before bed, however, it didn't cause us much of a problem and Nick had arranged for a plumber to attend early the following morning to rectify the problem. This is nothing to do with the hotel but we were a bit disappointed and surprised with the dining out options during the evening in Torquay. Apart from the Wetherspoons (which was very average at best) and take aways we didn't find many other options, however, the bars and pubs were varied and had a good atmosphere.

Lovely couple ran the B&B, service at breakfast was brilliant all done in a friendly manner with a smile. Property in a great location and we had a free room upgrade. Fridge in the room was topped up each morning with bottles of water and milk which was great. We will definitely be returning!

There was nothing to dislike about our stay. The only thing I would say was that you need to be able to walk uphill and up several sets of steps to get to the property which wasn’t a problem for us but is something you need to be aware of when booking.

Room was lovely, very clean and you had everything you needed. Room was serviced with fresh towels, water and fresh milk. Perfect location for the bars and restaurants. Amazing breakfast. The owners were so lovely couldn't do enough for you, hotel has free WiFi and parking. Will 100% be retuning in the future.

The amount of steps but we knew this when we booked. We needed the exercise after all the food we ate over the weekend 😂

The hotel is near to the town centre and there is a regular bus service that runs all along the coast a few minutes walk away. We received a warm from hosts. Our room was well equipped and was very comfortable.

There was nothing we disliked. The car park is up a steep drive and there are a lot of steps up to the property but the owners can do little about this because like a lot of Torquay the hotel is on the side of a hill. There was a good choice for breakfast although there was no fruit apart from juices on the menu. I'm confident however our hosts would have provided it if we had asked.

What an amazing and beautiful home for starters. Me and my girlfriend recently stayed at The Shirley and the owners Chen & Nick could not do anymore for us they listened and accommodated to all our needs (breakfast was amazing) they really do care about the guests. The rooms were immaculate & we had a really nice view from our window. The location is ideal, a 5 minute walk to some great restaurants (Amici’s, Smokey Joes, Tak Tak) add another minute and your at the harbour which was beautiful with all the lights lit up. Your also so close to many attractions (Model village, Oddecombe beach) Close enough to Paignton & Brixham for days out. It was a perfect stay and we will be coming back next year for another stay hopefully for a little longer, Thankyou again for making us feel welcome and letting us stay in your beautiful home, Martyn & Beth

Nothing. Everything was perfect!

Everything was spotless and the owners couldn't do enough for you . The building is beautiful and maintained very well with respect for its age but also giving you a modern bathroom and things like usb plugs and a mini fridge with fresh milk every day. You have tea and coffee making facilities in the room and this is replenished every day. The breakfast is excellent with everything you need from cereal and yogurt to a cooked breakfast any way you want it and hot and cold drinks. The breakfast was consistently cooked perfectly and Chen who served it was so helpful and attentive. The location is perfect for the harbour and town although as Torquay is built on hills it could be challenging for the less able among us. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and wouldn't hesitate to book again.

The breakfast choice is exceptional and very well cooked especially recommend Nick's scrambled eggs & smoked salmon. Our room was spacious and clean with the added bonus in the hot weather of a quiet fan and small box fridge which we appreciated on our holiday. Loved the large walk in shower & lighted mirror in bathroom. We have stayed at The Shirley before and will return as the hosts Nick & Chen are friendly and go the extra mile to please their guests. We look forward to returning again.

We received a very warm welcome from Nick on arrival and from Chen every morning at breakfast time. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. There was a good choice of breakfast and our hosts were always willing to provide whatever anyone required.

The steep drive and steps to the entrance weren't a problem for us but could be for anyone with limited mobility, especially in wet or icy conditions. This is no fault or criticism of the property providing people are aware when booking to stay.

Up on arrival are host made us a tea and coffee, very friendly people told us the best places to eat and what to see around the place. The hotel was very clean and tidy, the rooms were great lovely bed teas and coffees and fresh milk in the rooms. And the breakfast was 10 out of 10. They couldn't do enough for you. Very happy. Will stay again.

Such a great place to stay. Close to the centre. Breakfasts were lovely and all cooked fresh . Room was great with lots of room including a walk-in wardrobe. Hosts were brilliant -so helpful and attentive but not intrusive. Close to lots of restaurants too. Would definitely recommend.
