TLH Toorak Hotel (TLH Leisure Resort)

The staff, the room, the breakfast, the facilities and the entertainment were all very good. We travelled to be with family and friends, including grandchildren, so this wasn't our normal holiday, which is usually adults only. The hotel catered very well for the children which was our main goal. The location to Torquay sea front was good.

The day before we arrived the hotel messaged me saying that we would be charged for parking - not good. On arrival the receptionist said that if we had booked direct with the hotel then the parking would have been free. This was a surprise which Booking.com failed to inform me off. Also, messaging me the day before didn't give me the opportunity to cancel and rebook. Having also booked a room for my son and his family the additional cost was going to be £33 approx. I had a polite conversation with the manager (Roger - a nice man) and he agreed to refund the parking fee. We don't usually travel during the school holidays so I was very surprised at how expensive the hotel was.

Pool, was great a little cold but that's just my opinion.. Facilities were good.. Pool tables very poor... Snooker tables were well kept .. All in all a good Aztez Games is a good place to spend a little time ..

The toorak we stayed in smelt very musty as you walked in . The rooms really do need modernising , walls were marked and window frames were a little poor.. But the bed was comfy and the room itself had what you needed in it .. The carpets throughout the complex were a little dishevelled...

Breakfast was very good. A lot of variety of choices available. The staff worked very hard and professionally, to keep up with the demands and that was excellent . Indoor & outdoor swimming pools friends said it is like Dubai, beautiful gardens through the TLH hotels, restaurants, jacuzzi, entertainment for kids, soft play area, kids park, jumping castles, it was all very well thought when it was designed design. Excellent!

The heat was extreme, would have loved to keep windows open at night but could not as I had young kids. The fans were available but were blowing hot air. Air conditioning would have done a good treat. There was a lot of noise coming from the machinery in the building with the roof by 139 room windows which was quite unpleasant all night. The curtain kept falling off the rail as there was no stopper

Good swimming pools (indoor & outdoor), our room was a nice size, the food in the Aztec Bistro was very good.

Breakfast was very greasy, sausages & scrambled egg didn't taste very nice and the fruit was from a tin not fresh, they stated continental breakfast but had no range of pastries & no cold meats or cheese, some of the staff at breakfast looked very dirty as though they had not washed (which was very off putting when your eating food in their restaurant).

A couple of slight problems were sorted out immediately (room key wouldn't open the door - common at many hotels, and loo wouldn't flush after I pulled the handle out!!). The staff are just what you would want, friendly, helpful, but not in your face all the time. Couldn't fault the cleanliness of the room, the facilities etc. Great to have indoor and outdoor pool to keep kids happy. Close to the beach so that was good too. Free parking - always a bonus! Plenty of places to sit and relax - either in the sun around the pool with music etc, or quiet and peaceful in the garden with a choice of sun or shade. Lift available.

I couldn't fault it for my room only for one night (so can't comment on food etc)

The location was only a 5 minute walk from the beach and all the restaurants and bars . Breakfast very good offering a cold buffet and the traditional full English. The facilities in the hotel from the pools ,games room are amazing especially if you have young children to keep occupied . Staff very happy and always happy to help .

Staff were excellent, nothing was ever too difficult for them !! i,e Providing an iron and ironing board very promptly. Extra milk Etc. Rooms were very warm, but heaters were adjustable

Shower in room was appalling, very little pressure ( We had to keep turning round to get wet!!) Unable to open windows due to broken sash cords

A la carte and vegan breakfast excellent. Great service lovely staff Cleaning and reception staff also lovely. Everyone couldn't have been kinder. We had a lovely stay Bedrooms spacious and comfortable. Nice bathrooms and showers

Sticky surface on dressing table room 205. Stiff hot tap in basin. Could feel springs in mattress. Room 203 - hot basin tap - water scalding hot.

Good breakfast choice in attractive dining room with good service. Old fashioned but well appointed hotel. We thought it worth paying a little extra for the Riviera view - see photo. The staff throughout the complex were friendly and helpful. We had no trouble parking the car in one or other of the Group's car parks.

Sadly we didn't know that dinner would be unavailable to guests staying on bed and breakfast terms. This is the first hotel to refuse us dinner in the hotel dining room or in the main dining room of any of the four hotels in the TLH Group. It was a bit of a shock to hear that after a long drive. Fortunately there was the AZTEC Bistro and although the menu was limited the food was excellent. Eating from the same unchanging menu for lunch and dinner encouraged us out to explore the alternatives that Torquay has to offer. There was no indication when we booked that the TLH Group would be unable to accomodate us other than in the Bistro.

Previously stayed at one the other group hotels in the complex,the Derwent. Probably on balance we liked the Toorak more,but down to personal preference really,just a bit quieter around the hotel. Many could pick holes in the hotel, if they've spent too much time watching the many tv programmes on this subject, but value for money is second to none,rooms are clean and spacious food is great and reasonably priced and having the use of all the other facilities is great also.Staff try very hard and all are friendly and nothing is too much trouble.Obviously if you're a wannbe A lister then get your money out and stay elsewhere. Close to the sea front and harbour etc and a short walk to the town. Will be back.

One major gripe was the parking.There was a few day functions on and as its first come first served you lose out as you dont get to check in till 4pm officially. You can reserve a spot if you are a blue badge holder apparently, but I feel it unfair for day functions to take a priority over people staying over, but it is what it is, just be aware.
