The White Hart Hotel

We spent a week at the White Hart Hotel owned by Tom & James Bainbridge. As should be expected, a 17th-century coaching inn has all the charm and character of a period property. So it is not modern, but it is fully functional and beautiful. All the staff were excellent, welcoming, attentive and genuine. It's great to speak with staff who are passionate about their work. From making cocktails to the fantastic food in the restaurant, the housekeeping was perfect, which made our stay a pleasure. The location is perfect for a small quiet break as Welwyn is a walk or bus ride to Welwyn Garden City, or Welwyn itself has plenty of shops, bakeries, cafes, pubs and walks for a few days.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Check in was easy and everything explained by staff member. Breakfast lady was very jolly and attentive to my husband's special food request. The Barman in the evening very kindly moved his car so we could have a car parking space as we had returned later, one evening. Breakfast was beautifully cooked. The TV in the bedroom was lovely...large screen, clear picture and easy viewing from the bed. (As you have guessed, we have had poor experiences of Room TVs in other pubs/hotels!).

Too strong to say I didn't like this but I personally do like a Breakfast Buffet table to choose from, before eating the cooked breakfast. Cereal/pastries/yoghurt/fruit. But I'm sure if we'd asked, we could have had some of those options!

Hotel was comfortable characterful and charming. The rooms were large and had large bathrooms with nice baths and showers. The location was handy for access to the motorway and train station and shops and restaurants were within easy walking distance. We ate in the restaurant and the food was very good, also the bar area was nice to sit for a drink.

The hotel is very old 1700’s and the window should be secondary glazed as the rooms did get chilly although the was and electric heater. The bedrooms/bathrooms need a little TLC remove cobwebs from the windows add shelves in shower and above sink. Put in a set of draws in bedroom. Change location of hair dryer next to mirror.

The location was perfect. Size of room was a good size with a large king size bed which was very comfortable. The room was serviced daily with a selection of different teas. We stayed in room 3 Excellent cooked full English. The sausages were delicious. Very friendly staff. When we had to tell them the shower wasn't working the owner was on it immediately and could not be more apologetic, he even offered to change our room.

There was not much I could say about negative feedback apart from the Kettle was difficult to get to as the chord was short which meant you had to pour hot water at an idd angle plus the hairdryer could do with being a newer one.

Very nice large room. Extremely comfortable bed. Restaurant was quirky and interesting - shame it was closed other than for breakfast.

Upgraded to luxury room with jacuzzi bath - disappointing to find it had curtains around it for a shower as it was oval rather than a separate shower (or a rectangular bath with a shower screen) but didn't use anyway as the very large bathroom was too cold and took too long to heat up. Very odd "Amazon locker" type of cupboard in the bedroom rather than wardrobe. We had booked as the restaurant had excellent reviews so disappointing that since Covid it is now closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Breakfast disappointing. this a the most expensive of the three B&B's we had booked

Staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was lovely and the rooms were clean. Great location as we were going to a birthday party at Welwyn Sports and Social club which is just up the road. Nice walks from there too.

It was an extremely hot day and we couldn't open the window (I think it was broken) and the room was unbearably hot. We did find a fan but didn't make much difference. The rest of the hotel/pub was much cooler.

room was lovely and spacious, bed was very comfy

they ran out of beer early evening and on return after meal out the on tap Pepsi tasted very watered down. don’t like not getting a receipt on check out, did not like that they just took the money for drinks added to the room without even telling us how much it was. breakfast was okay, but asked for toast and jam and got 2 pieces of buttered toast on my plate with the cooked breakfast and no jam. would’ve preferred it separate after cooked food.

The quaintness of the hotel and the friendly staff. The food was of a very good standard and the location was excellent, being right in the village. The bed was very comfortable. Good parking.

The continental breakfast consisted of a croissant or a bun, no cereal or fruit, toast or yoghurt. Fixtures and fittings could have done with a good dusting and polish.

Good location and clean comfortable rooms. Excellent communication prior to arrival and also in response to an issue with the shower which was dealt with promptly. Friendly, helpful staff and a good breakfast.

No real issues. However, as this is an old property, the stairs are steep so that would be an issue for anyone with a disability. There are alternative rooms though.

Bar and restaurant were great, food was excellent if a little expensive. I had a burger and two beers and the bill was over £31, a little steep I think.

The external sash window had been opened and left open as it was a hot day, however I could not gain access to it to close due to a secondary double glazing unit not allowing sufficient access. I therefore slept with the window open and had a terrible nights sleep due to road noise and heavy rain. They should look at new windows perhaps.
