This accommodation is an excellent choice for solo travelers seeking a prime location facing Central Park. It's challenging to find a better-positioned place to stay in Manhattan at this price point. However, I would suggest that it's more suited to shorter stays, perhaps a few nights at most, given the lack of comfort. The room is rather small and antiquated, with a noisy a/c unit and bustling corridors. That being said, the property matched the descriptions provided in the instructions and met my expectations. Contrary to some reviews I read, stating the staff was unhelpful and discourteous, I found them to be consistently obliging and polite during my stay. In conclusion, while the accommodations might not be the epitome of luxury or comfort, the location and price make it an attractive option for short-term solo travelers. Any minor discomforts are counterbalanced by the convenience of being in the heart of Manhattan by an affordable price. It's a case of getting what you expect, and in that sense, this property did not disappoint.
As previously mentioned, there are a few discomforts, such as the lack of tranquility and the small, basic room. However, these elements should not come as a surprise to anyone booking here, as they should be expected if the provided guidelines are read. While the bathroom is located in the corridor rather than in-room, it's designed for individual use, offering privacy as the door can be securely locked from the inside.

This is dorm-style accommodations with a small room that includes a twin bed of questionable comfort (they are different, so depends on how lucky you get), a desk, a TV that may or may not work, and a closet. Just like a dorm room. The temperature in the room is acceptable. The views may not be great, but it's downtown New York; there are no great views unless you are on the 50th floor or above. The bathrooms are shared, so that comes with everything that you can expect from a bathroom that has 3 toilets and 3 showers and is shared by many more than 3 people. If you accept this, this is a very good place to stay if you just need somewhere to sleep. The location is by far the best thing which is why they are often fully booked. You pay what you would pay for a regular 3-star hotel anywhere else. But it is still a lot less expensive than anything else in downtown New York. The rooms are not as noisy as one would think. Although if there are fireworks going off in the Central Park, you get to hear them very, very well.
The bathrooms are shared, so that comes with dirty sinks and wet floors. The most inconvenient, however, is that there is nowhere to put your stuff while you are taking a shower, no shelves or hooks or anything. People end up putting their towels and clothes on top of the shower doors, so there is a chance that they will get wet. But it is also a good thing because the shower doors are see-through... so just be ready for that. There is also no shelf or anything inside the shower cabin where to put your shampoo and other things, so you have to put them on the floor of the shower. Again, just be ready for that and bring the least amount of stuff to the shower possible and try to make sure that it is protected if you don't want it to get too wet.

For NYC, it's a very affordable option. The location near Columbus Circle is very convenient for walking and is near many of the subways. And Central Park is next door. Having access to the Y's gym is a wonderful bonus.
This is not the Y's fault but the biggest drawback is that the other guests let their doors slam shut. And so early morning you might be woken by the noise of slamming doors. It's very easy to close the doors softly and it amazes me that more people weren't respectful of that. Everyone must've heard the same loud slamming so why not try to put a stop to it?

The location - on W 63rd St just off Central Park and a couple of blocks from Lincoln Center - is superb for cultural activities in that part of New York City and well connected by bus and subway to transportation centers and the whole metro area. I booked a single room with a shared bath. I found the room adequate for my needs, with good lighting, wifi, a desk and clothes storage areas, an adequate bed, a refrigerator, and towels and soap. The bathrooms were down the hall; each had a sink, toilet and shower, and were used one person at a time. They were clean. The management is courteous and efficient, and there is good security at the entrance. There were also fitness facilities that I did not visit. I booked the room at the last minute when there was disruption in Amtrak train service due to a freight derailment on the tracks.
It's a large facility and can feel a bit impersonal. On the bright side, I was able to get a room at a reasonable rate at the last minute because it has a lot of rooms available.

I visited for 12 nights, the hotel was great for the prices of other hotels in New York City, the room was mostly fine and I even got a room with up high with a nice view to Central Park, I got a room with a Semi-Private bathroom and it was pretty great and a very recommended addition to the room, you have full privacy when inside the bathroom only downside is that it's outside the room, but really not that bad. location is superb! just outside Central Park and close to Columbus Circle (5 min walk), so a lot of buses and a big subway station with a lot of lines!
bathrooms wasn't the cleanest but acceptable for being semi-private, there was a lot of noise from other rooms and the hallway. a/c in the room was only cool and no heat option, cleaning the room was once every couple of days. minor downsides for me but worth mentioning.

Can’t beat the location of the West Side YMCA! It has all the facilities you need for a pleasant hotel stay.
The rooms are small and the bathrooms are shared space like in a dormitory, but this is the Y! Rooms are still private unlike a hostel.

god this place was incredible, right in Manhattan, just feet away from Lincoln center, Juilliard is right around the corner and the largest AMC which hosts celebrities alike (on premiers usually) is just a little down the street. the train station that will take you everywhere is right next to the pace, with a few bakeries, food stands in between. I took yoga classes and dance classes for FREE almost every morning and several evenings. there's a whole array of classes you can take (no membership even needed). the room is small but that was expected and I didn't mind at all, there's a desk and tv and somehow a pretty spacious closet with a safe. everyone in the building is so kind and helpful, and if you don't want to use the community bathrooms (always kept clean to perfection, with a keypad and lock on the outside) you can go to the 12th floor and use you key card to access one of the several private bathrooms that also have individual showers. the overall place is CLEAN and safe , was really appreciative of that.
when I tell you the bed was a cement with a piece of string on top, but I stayed so long it became decently comfortable somehow ( a day of walking in nyc will allow you to sleep in any bed, don't worry) , but for the price its expected and I actually really really liked this place

Location is very good around the Columbus Circle line and next door to Central Park and Trump Hotel. The Hostel itself has good Wifi and facilities like indoor swimming pool and gym are available. You can get a good steam bath a the swimming pool too. The room toilet can get a bit crowded as it is shared with many other people on the same floor. I was given the corner room which has a good view of the sky scrapers. Staff were friendly although I reached the place late , they were willing to open the door for me. Security is heightened by key card and real staff checking people coming in the out the building in wee hours. Would say for this price , it is good! I came here for the NY marathon, and it was really really near the finish line, also easy to get to the start line too with the good transport. I also managed to take public transport and reach here easily from the JFK airport.
Maybe just the sharing toilet part, if you stay further away from the toilets, it can be inconvenient and also sometimes there are too many people using at the same time. Sometimes the cleanliness is compromised also because usage is high. The very big mix of cliente makes the place kinda messy but since it is a hostel, this is likely to be expected.

Safe and well located next to central park. The room was large enough for what you need in a big city, it had everything you need ( bed clauset a storage room a safe chairs fridge and last but not least an air-conditioning that works super fast for the room) Cleaning the room is on your own pace or request, daily cleaning is possible. No limit on the towels you can ask to use, handy a fresh towel each time you shower. Big bathrooms (semi-private means you share them with other guests only guests on your floor can access them) On site fitness pool,... friendly staff well worth the money for new York city.
Bathroom cleaning can be upped a lot. Idk why but guests are real animals leave the bathroom most of the time trashed. Water everywhere paper not thrown in bins,... Sometimes guests failed to use the toilet and it was super dirty. Housekeeping tries their best but with 10 bathrooms for a whole floor of guests during rush hours it is messed up. You end up opening and then selecting the bathroom you think is clean enough but ideally all bathrooms should be clean. This is litterly the only downside i experienced. Dont let it scare you tho take your flipflops with you and some wet towels and do your selection wise and enjoy central park right next door!
