Room (we had family suite) was very spacious with the 2 adjoining rooms. Good to have coffee maker and could get a kettle upon request from front desk. The view to the Eiger was great from the balcony outside the room but we were on the first floor, and I suspect the third floor suites may have been even better for the view from within the room. Parking was easy. Many reviews complained about the steep climb to the hotel from the train station, but we managed it okay a few times with a 9 and 6 year old, though it could be harder for more elderly people. Front desk staff quite helpful on where to go. If skiing, there are a number of places in town to rent equipment and then can buy ski passes (a bit confusing with all the various transportation pass options). Rooms were well heated and we had the choice to even open the window to cool down a bit as it was 10 degrees in Feb so quite warm for Grindelwald. Food options in town are quite limited unless you want a sit down meal, and hotel dinner needs to be reserved in advance, but we managed to buy stuff from the local grocery store in town (open till 7 PM) one night and got takeaway pizza the other night. The bathroom was basic but clean and good, I had read on some other reviews that this was a problem area, but it was not so for us. I daresay it was slightly better than how it looks in some of the photos which make it look quite rundown.

Breakfast was pretty basic - cereals, croissants/bread and cheese. Decent, but basic and for the price it could be better. Staff at breakfast were also not as friendly as the staff at the check in counter, though they were not rude either. The room has a safe but its quite so cannot fit larger electronic devices like ipads or laptops.

The location is great with a short walk to downtown. The hotel itself is very traditional and picturesque. We enjoyed our stay.

Breakfast is continental. Other than that, all was good!

Location was perfect, about two blocks uphill from the busier downtown and the train station. The hotel was quiet, pretty and had gorgeous views of the town and the mountains over the beautiful window boxes on our balcony. We slept well and the breakfast room was nicely decorated and served a typical Swiss breakfast food — cheese, sausage, yogurt, breads, cereal, fruit and yogurt. The staff — Lise in particular — was very nice and very helpful. We were very pleased we picked the Hotel Alpenhof Grindelwald as we could walk to most things we wanted to do and places for dinner. The hotel’s free parking lot had a reasonable amount of room, unlike some other hotels we saw.

Maybe a little more variety for breakfast, as we stayed there 6 nights. But what they had was always great.

We liked: 1. Wonderful staff for making us feel at home 2. The hotel transfers up and down the hill: even though it's a short distance, with suitcases and young kids would have been a challenge :) 3. The location: close to town yet quiet, beautiful views as it is on a hillside, close to the supermarket, restaurants, train station etc. 4. Kids toys in the lobby! What a cosy touch, thank you. 5. The family suite was cozy, clean and comfortable 6. Breakfast and our dinner there were delicious and our dinner staff were wonderful too

That we did not book for longer.

I would highly recommend this wonderful hotel. The geraniums on the balconies are exactly like in the photos. It is a very welcoming sight on arrival. The rooms are lovely, very spacious, well -equipped with a separate partition as a salon and the views are amazing. Yes, it is up a little hill but it is fine and well worth the effort to be away from the main road in Grindelwald. The breakfast is amazing with a huge choice of good quality food and the restaurant food in the evening is excellent and fairly priced. No need to walk down into the town to eat. Thanks to Tiago for his excellent service. All the staff without exception are very friendly, efficient and helpful. I would most definitely return.

Nothing. Everything was perfect

The property is just as described - amazing views of the Eiger from your room! What a dream. Our bed was very comfortable. The property is not on the main strip yet just a few minute walk (down a hill) from the train station and the restaurants and shops, which we appreciated. Very nice complimentary continental style breakfast included. The staff is kind, welcoming and helpful. My children loved the free access to the sports complex indoor swimming pool and slide. Miss it already.

I really enjoyed that this hotel was located near the train station of Grindelwald. Overall the hotel was what I imagined it to be. It was quiet, friendly staff. My room was on the first floor, fairly small but had a comfortable bed and comfortable shower. The breakfast was very good in the morning. Nothing over the top fancy, a great room for a pleasant stay in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I would definitely stay here again!

Nothing I did not like.

Good location and nice rooms. View from the balcony is amazing.

Bit tricky walking up and down the hill in ski boots. We opted to rent a ski locker at Terminal instead. Lots of choice at breakfast but we only realised you could order cooked eggs on the last morning. The morning waiter seemed rushed off his feet. Self service hot drinks would make this easier.

A lovely traditional Swiss Alpin hotel. Great location- short stroll from the station and main street of Grindelwald. Very clean and well maintained hotel. Helpful and friendly staff. Great European breakfast. Stunning views!

The foldout lounge room bed was incredibly uncomfortable.

Beautiful chalet style room in the perfect location for cable car and exploring switzerland. The view was INCREDIBLE and the room was huge. Lovely balcony for us to sit out once the kids were asleep and lovely restaurant for dinner and the included breakfast was smashing.

curtains were a bit thin. Luckily we had a blackout blind that we brought with us for the kids but there were huge windows (great for the view!) so didn't do much.
