Thanet Hotel

The hotel is ideally situated a short walk away from the British Museum, the beautiful park and coffee shop at Russell Square and very conveniently close to St. Pancras and two Piccadilly line tube stations. I had room number 8 on the second floor of the Thanet main building (not the annex). The room was mostly clean, except for the carpet, which was hoovered upon request, so no problem there. The bed and sheets were spotlessy clean and comfortable to sleep in. The old fashioned window could be opend which was a pleasant surprise, as this is not always possible in other hotels. There were 3 sockets, quite a number of light switches and lamps and a hair dryer which all worked fine. The shower was very small, but ok if you‘re not very tall and bulky; the water was hot and there was enough pressure to produce a good shower experience. Wifi was excellent.

The toothbrush glas wasn‘t clean and the rubber shower mat was mouldy, but it had obviously not been used for a very long time as it was rolled up and had been stuck in the small space between the toilet and wall. The tv didn‘t work, but I didn‘t use it anyway. The chair looked rather tattered and worn out, its upholstery is in desperate need of renewal.

Booked in here as me and a mate were doing the London Half Marathon the next day. The staff were planning to close the hotel for the afternoon. However, when they heard we were doing the run they not only let us leave our bags but also come back for a shower before we headed off home. Fantastic service and much appreciated.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. They let me burrow a phone charger for my entire stay when mine didn't work and my phone ran out of battery. Generally, it felt like if I ever had a problem, I could just ask the staff at the reception and they would help.

No room service to bring new towels and things like that. Though you could probably ask at the reception for those things, I just didn't try.

The room was huge. Great space for your money. The bathrooms were intelligently set up (toilet and shower were separate). The hotel is in a great location: close to sites, stores, a park and public transit.

The wifi was very weak and there were no fans or air conditioning. Also the windows had no screens, so it wasn't a safe idea to open them.

Small room up a couple of flights of stairs. Room was warm, the bed was really comfortable with good pillows, Reception staff were friendly and efficient, no problems checking in. It's close to the Brunswick Centre for eateries and a supermarket, near to Russell Square station and the square itself. Good connections to Public transport and buses. Near to Oxford Street and the British Museum.

Creaking floorbards above and around. Voices of guests were loud as if they were in stereo. That calmed down around midnight. Noise wasn't aggressive, however, and it soon died down.

The staff is excellent, very helpful. and always polite. Bed was comfortable. The hotel is in Holborn which is very central yet quiet. Tube is 5 mins walking. Places like Covent Garden, Soho, and Chinatown are super close as well.

I was having trouble taking a proper warm shower. Although everything set like it should be, the water wasn't even lukewarm, and the water flow wasn't excellent neither.

The staff was extremely friendly, they offered me a free upgrade without me even asking! (going from a single bedroom with private bathroom to a double ensuite bedroom). We also had nice conversations and exchanged about our cultures. Besides the personnel, the location was also perfect.

It is rather basic but everything is clean.

Great location, there's plenty of information for guests. The welcome book was useful when I didn't know what was open early Saturday morning.

The cleaner hadn't vacuumed the carpet properly, between the beds and the edges. So there's been a lot of build up of dust and hair.

The location is great right in Central London. Walkable to a few tube stations and tourist areas. Comfortable room and as a solo traveller I felt safe in the hotel and Location.

Only one thing, the hotel is an older property so the floorboards are quite noisy and you can hear other guests walking about.

Its location is ideal and the staff was helpful.

Although I can understand that the check-in time is 3 PM, when a guess arrives early and needs to leave his/her luggage at the reception area, there should be no problem with it and they must not be charged for it. This should be part of the hostel hospitality policy. Also, in my room there was a problem with the hot water. Finally, it is annoying that the shower is very small.
