Donnington Valley Hotel, Golf & Spa

The staff were very friendly and helpful, I stayed alone and they made me feel very welcomed! The food was also superb! Every meal I had was amazing!!

My only critique is that on the day of checking out, my room was knocked on twice by housekeeping, of course this is their job, but I was getting showered and ready at the time which could have been slightly awkward. I wonder if there is a way for the housekeeping staff to know who is checking out on which day so that residents aren’t disturbed until they need to leave the room. Very minor point though, cannot fault the stay otherwise!

The ground floor room with patio access to outside space and seating - that was lovely. The massage was lovely and just at the right deep Room was a good size and the shower was a nice temperature and pleasing to have the option to take a bath or shower.

The restaurant during out evening meal was a little too loud with a large group of guests dining at the same time as we were dining. But this is no fault of the hotel. It would have been beneficial to us if the electric car charging points were signposted as we stumbled on them by mistake when we were leaving the hotel.

Quiet and comfortable accommodation. Super tasty breakfast. Kettle and fridge in the room with complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits with a pint of milk in the fridge which was great and much better than the little long life pots you normally get. We were there for a birthday party and if you want a venue with a super party room and fabulous party food then this venue is perfect.

The air conditioning wasn’t working in our room on one of the hottest days of the year. Fortunately reception found a large fan for the room which made sleeping more bearable.

I always try and stay at this hotel when I am visiting the office as it's a nice hotel and has a lot of good facilities. The staff are always super friendly and the breakfast is pretty awesome; one of the best hotels in the area.

Booked through booking.com for ease but ended up in the wing which is OK but not the nicest rooms... maybe had I booked through the company booking system I would have had a better room - though saying that it was nice and cool which was welcome as usually the rooms are too hot...

We haven't been here for a few years and we were pleased to find that the hotel room, common areas and facilities were ALL still immaculate and well maintained. Our executive room was wonderfully air conditioned, and our bed incredibly comfortable so we slept well. The gym had all new equipment, and the spa and pool were clean. Staff were all professional and extremely helpful.

The breakfast was the only disappointment. The selection was carb/meat/calorie heavy, with waffles, muffins, pastries, bread and traditional English breakfast - plenty of black pudding, sausages and bacon. Unfortunately there was no low fat yogurt, no smoked salmon or other fish, no prunes or granola, and only sunflower seeds, rather than a selection of nuts/seeds. At hotels we stay of a similar standard, there is usually a choice of fish and healthier options on offer at breakfast. However, the outdoor seating in the cool of the summer morning was really lovely.

The room was really well presented and very clean. The bathroom was much bigger than normal hotel rooms and also very clean. It was also lovely to have a little bottle of milk for tea and coffee. Lots of little touches that made my stay really enjoyable. I will be staying there again.

My only comment would be the gap under the door which let a lot of light into the room overnight. I know some people do find that helpful in a strange place but personally I prefer it dark. Lovely room anyway.

We loved the terrace next to the pool. As the weather was glorious, it felt like we were on holiday being able. To jump in the pool when too hot. Also they allowed us to pay a small fee to stay all day which was game changing for our weekend. We loved the variety of breakfast, the quality and the beautiful outdoor eating area. It was just perfect.

It's very very minor but the ability to call through to reception (phone didn't connect) and perhaps an updated room service menu!

Pool and spa was great, outdoor dining under a large canvass awning was nice. Food and drink was great quality, if a little pricey.

Wasn't very impressed in having a breakfast delivered to the room rather than a buffet. Should not have been an extra £10 for that.

Very good excellent choice, good restaurant food was slightly over priced for the quality, choice of eating inside or out was good, room was very good, reception staff were polite but could be more welcoming and friendly and look happy to receive you, spa staff were excellent on all counts overall a very good stay thank you.

As previous comments and for a hotel of this stature I would have expected to be able to get a simple cocktail from the bar and not to select from a restricted list as I was the only person at the bar at the time and the bar area was empty.

All the staff from reception to bar to restaurant couldnt do enough for us and were so pleasant which is very unusual in most hotels these days .... We stayed in three classic rooms which were very pleasant, spacious and comfortable .. The leisure facilities are excellent with large pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, aroma room .. all very clean .. and drinks were brought to your sunbed which was lovely .. Restaurant food amazing .. we had afternoon tea/dinner/breakfast all of which were beautifully presented and tasty. Bar was great with an open fire which was constantly tended .. Clean, comfotable and classy throughout. Will book again.

Very minor issues .. window in one of our rooms 218 didnt open and rooms are quite hot .. airconditioning was not functioning i assume because of winter .. so ladies of a certain age like us .. may require a fan! Bath robe was missing a belt in room 220 but we improvised. Hairdryer running constantly on cold in room 220 but we had brought a spare in our group. Only two bottles of "sparkling" water in room 218 .. "still" water would have been nice as dont like sparkling. I believe all would have been immediately remedied but we are of a generation not to make a fuss and everything else made up for these problems.
