I don’t usually give reviews but I thought this hotel was excellent, the breakfast with the flatbread was absolutely amazing, location was excellent, staff was excellent and it was only a 20 mins walk to Newbury races. recommend this hotel strongly.
The only negative was no one had said the parking was at the back of the hotel and there was a barrier.(look for the white wall) when you find it you just press the buzzer, but I was running late for the horses and had to park in the car in KFC and pay £7.50. Oh also for some reason the sat nav took us to somewhere that was 30 mins from this hotel so double check you are heading to the right place before you set off.

The beds were extremely comfortable. The towels and drinks were changed daily even on Christmas Day. The location is perfect it is in the middle of Newbury so if you don’t want to eat in the pub there is lots of choice around and there is car parking which is a bonus. It is a lovely pub we had drinks in there in the evening I
The last time we stayed continental breakfast was included this time it wasn’t so I tried the vegetarian breakfast but I wasn’t impressed with it for the price I paid. There were a couple of issues in the room nothing major and it didn’t affect my overall rating. There was no light by the big mirror which is in the corner and is quite dark had to open the bathroom door and put the light on in there so I could see to straighten my hair, ideally if a small mirror was put above the dressing table it would be better. The shelf in the bathroom was very loose and held on by two screws it was unusable because of how loose it was

Deluxe rooms are very large. Bed was enormous and very comfortable. Bathroom is nice and clean. The location is perfect and in the town centre of Newbury. Ideal for Newbury racings
We have stayed in the hotel for a number of years but it is starting to look a bit tired. Bedroom carpets are starting to look bare and it is difficult to open windows. No bath mat meant we had to use a towel on the floor. Bath is quite high and less mobile people might find it difficult climbing in and out of.

all of it, the bedroom was lovely, the bed was comfy. the location to all the amenities was spot on. It was quiet when sleeping, no other guests were noisy. likes the continental and full English breakfast and the coffee was lovely. free parking was great. Nice to have a fan in the room as it was a warm weekend.
Housekeeping. On the 2nd day, only our bin was emptied and a small amount of toiletries given. No tea bags or more coffee pods, no milk and no clean towels. I asked reception and the young lady was very obliging. But it can be uncomfortable to ask. also normally the cups get replaced or washed? no big deal there though. we asked for another fan but non spare, think it was full occupancy though. On leaving I wasn’t asked how the stay went and that’s a given, it was a young bearded man who didn’t seem very hospitable. so I couldn’t give feedback. One of the sash windows kept blowing in the early hours due to a breeze, this was annoying. also, the windows were dirty and full of cobwebs, also a lot of cobwebs throughout the room. really could do with a good going over.

We booked this last minute as we were going to the races. After booking we were looking at reviews here and on Trip advisor. I have to say the negative reviews are totally unfounded. Yes we only got continental breakfast included in the price but it clearly states that. There were fresh croissants, piping hot toast with loads of jams, yogurt and cereal. If you wanted you could pay for a cooked breakfast. Freshly brewed tea and coffee and more importantly smiling staff. The room was spacious and very clean with good facilities. We would certainly stay again and would highly recommend.
My only negative was the room was extremely hot and the windows can not be opened fully. However there was a fan in the room.

I loved the location and their quirky style. It was very unique and made me feel very comfortable. Everything worked perfectly fine, the bed was super nice and the bathroom had everything I needed. It was quiet in the bedroom and I could sleep very easily.
I didn't appreciate that the internet didn't work early in the morning. I tried connecting three different days at 7am and there was an error. It looks like someone needs to activate it?

It was awesome. The room had charm and was clean. The bathroom was super cozy and had bathtub. The lil in-room coffee maker was greatly appreciated. Bed was very comfortable. I highly recommend The Elephant at the Market
I have nothing to complain about. Also, if you need a grocer in the UK for veggies and fruits (hummus and bread and pick-nick supplies), Marks & Spencer saved me and my family time and again.

Quirky hotel - loved that about it . Staff were amazing , very friendly and so helpful - can't fault them!
Room was smaller than expected but quite adequate for a short stay During breakfast cleaner was cleaning windows in restaurant , even standing on dining chairs at one point. Spraying interior windows with window spray directly above vacant table that was however set up for diners with cutlery and glasses. Was looking Xat mirrors right next to us considering whether to clean whilst we were eating breakfast. Had she done so would have felt compelled to ask her not to .

The Elephant at the Market was lovely to the point we came back in between travels and stayed there probably all total5 to 7 nights. Room was large and comfy, great bed! Bathroom roomy with nice shower. We had lots of help from a young man named Ollie Lynch who checked us in, helped us with bags, tended the bar and coffee shop and waited on us in the restaurant! He was so accommodating and friendly and part of the reason we chose to stay there over other places.
