Rookwood Farmhouse B&B

Beautiful gardens and very friendly owners. The location was ideal for a lunch celebration at nearby restaurant (The Woodspeen). We stayed in rooms in the Coach House, with the added benefit of a sitting room and kitchenette - perfect for relaxing in when the weather wasn’t pleasant enough to sit outside!

Just an observation but certainly didn’t detract from our stay: The decoration was a little dated and the communal conservatory was in need of a clean/sweep.

We have stayed at Rookwood twice in order to be near our son and daughter-in-law. Rupert and Charlotte are a delightful couple who have opened their home in a very welcoming way. We have stayed in the blue room with beautiful garden views and a wonderfully comfortable super king size bed. We also stayed in the yellow room in the coach house - again very comfortable and more spacious than the blue. Rookwood is near the town but so peaceful. The lounge is very pleasant and in the Spring enjoyed the log fire on a chilly evening. Breakfast is delicious with a menu offering a wonderful variety of options, including poached haddock, kippers and smoked salmon as well as the ‘full English’. The outdoor heated pool looks inviting; unfortunately we had no time to swim. The gardens are so pretty and interesting to stroll around and explore. Thank you for our enjoyable stays.

Nothing to dislike.

Very efficient and friendly host. Good and generous breakfast. Love the the gardens. It is peaceful and pretty, well kept with variety of foliage. Many pockets of space to reflect. Dogs are a bonus coz I love dogs.

The room we had has the bathroom is just outside the room. The bedroom door keeps slamming shut loudly when if we dont hang on to it. And the toilet knobs keep falling out. We have told the owners and they will work on it. So it shouldn't be an issue for others who stay after us if these were looked into.

It depends on what your looking for but we were looking for a relaxed day and good food and somewhere to have a good nights sleep , we arrived after dark and were welcomed with an invitation to light the traditional open fireplace. The Garden is amazing there a lot of hard work gone into looking after this oasis. we didn't use any of the facility's or the garden due to the time of year , but would imagine in the warmer month this would be a stunning place to stay. There are some great Michelin star restaurants in the area, we went to the closest one called WoodSpeen where the food and service were great they also have a cookery school . Breakfast was very relaxed, all cooked to order all top quality ingredients Overall if your looking for a relaxing place to stay with a homey feel then look no further .

the only thing that bugged us was that we went past the place 4 times as the signage is not bold enough

We had a fabulous stay at Rookwood. The bedrooms provided for our two children worked really well, all the rooms were lovely, and the bathrooms clean and modern. The garden was great to walk around and our children enjoyed playing in the pool which was a great size. The hosts were welcoming and thoughtful, going out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Charlotte made us a delicious breakfast each morning, and catered to all our requests in the nicely decorated breakfast room. Having the added use of the guest drawing room was ideal especially in the evenings to relax and watch a film. Highly recommend.

Lovely choices for breakfast! A bonus being able to eat it outside on the lovely terrace.

I do find it can be a little worrying staying in someone else’s house with them especially when you have teenagers but they made us feel very welcome and didn’t mind the boys making full use of the pool!

Lovely part of the world! We brought a bottle of wine and enjoyed the evening sun before heading out to dinner. Great stay, we hope to return.

On reflection we think we didn’t get the room we booked. Our room was lovely, but was missing the all important bath from the pictures. I suspect if we’d mentioned when we arrived in the room this would have been swiftly corrected - but we were too eager to enjoy the waning sun in the garden to notice.

Had a wonderful stay. Very welcoming and helpful. Great place to stay with all the home comforts. Breakfast was amazing and the biggest bed in the world. I normally use big hotel chains whilst working away but decided to step outside of my comfort zone and believe me I couldn’t recommend Rookwood enough. 5 Stars !!

Fabulous stay

lovely large room and well equipped bathroom. the grounds were gorgeous. lovely quiet location

if I had to moan it would be that I would like it to be a bit nearer to the nearest town centre. that is just me being very picky. it is a lovely place.

Great communal spaces and clean and comfortable bed and linen. Stunning garden. Great breakfast menu choices… delicious bacon! Hosts were really helpful and were even able to accommodate an additional family guest!

The owners had decided to turn the pool heating off.
