We stayed in 2 rooms with our family of 4. Close walking distance to the station. We forwarded our luggage to Kyoto and only traveled with small backpacks which worked perfectly. Once we got to the hotel we wore the wonderful yukata and pj’s, and all the bathroom amenities were divine. The onsen on the patio was lovely. The dinner was fun- definitely add the shabu shabu option. It was the highlight. Overall super fun stay and ideal for one night.

The hotel needs to improve their coffee and tea options! They made way too big of a deal of only serving one cup at breakfast and only if you select the coffee option. Only instant coffee available in the rooms. The place is way too high end to skimp out on good and flowing coffee in the morning!

Kind and helpful staff, excellent service, comfortable bed and faboulous private onsen.

It's not especially close to anything, you would have to take one or two buses to get near the lake and see the sights. In our case, the weather was awful so it didn't matter much - we ended up dtaying in and enjoying the onsen!

Great to have a private hot spring bath with the room which is the highlight of the stay and the room is of good size. English speaking staff and food is good

Abit of walk from the property to the hotel with a steep upslope

The entire package with breakfast, dinner, and your private "ofuro" bath was superb. You really get the feel of the old traditional Japanese style hotel. The breakfast and dinner was incredible, so much food! The meals are exquisite, presentation is amazing, and the taste is devine. Property location is very close to the main train station (Yumoto). I would recommend a taxi, if you have a lot of luggage. There's a short section that's a pretty steep climb. It's not a difficult walk, if it's leisure and no luggage.

Communication. Staff does not speak much English, so some things do get lost in translation. Also, check out time is very early, 10:00am. I recommend arriving early, store your bags at the hotel, and spend the day in town exploring the little shops.

We would like to stand out, that the staff was very nice and friendly and did their best. Unfortunately, there were some things that we would attribute to management that really weren't nice. The hotel was under construction when we were there, this was not mentioned and there were no monetary discounts, compliments or amenities to compensate for this. Arrival and departure was terrible. Getting from the train station to the hotel was complicated, it took a long time and the staff couldn't help (specifically: 1.5 hours of waiting for the bus in the pouring rain, there is no shuttle service from or to the the hotel no taxis to get and back same, 1 hour wait from the train station to the hotel in the Rain; families with strollers had great problems getting with the local bus it was a nightmare for parents) A house in this price range should urgently take this to heart and improve it. We also received an incredibly rude email from the menagement telling us to behave well in Hakone. Saying something like that to people who are on their honeymoon and who have learned Japanese a year beforehand and have lerned to behave good with the people and the culture incredibly disturbed us and incredibly embarrassed the employees. I would definitely not recommend the house.

The room was really nice, and it was great to have your own onsen in the room - since the hotel does not allow tattoos. Staff was very friendly.

The food was not that great, we have had much better course dinners at other ryokans. Some dishes were a bit flavorless, and the breakfast was not good. My Japanese husband did not like his Japanese style breakfast. We were a little disappointed that neither dinner nor breakfast matched the price or our expectations.

Very nice place. The staff was very friendly. Food was delicious. The best part of this place is that they have private onsen (Japanese style bath in every room). So you can take bath privately without using public bath if you want. The dinner was amazing with great variety of meet, fish, seafood and vegetables. Everything was served with Japanese style attention to every single point. And of course staying in Japanese style hotel is very good possibility to have experience to sleep on tatami futon, without bed. Also this hotel have bar space. So if you are travelling by group of people you have space to spend time together with glass of bear or Japanese sake.

It is Japanese ryokan but in Balinese style. So the decoration of hotel is not Classical Japanese. When we arrived the out side part was under repair construction. But I’m sure it was temporary, not for long time. If you travel by group of people and using bus, please pay attention that there is no space for bus parking.

The staff is wonderful and very accommodating. This is a perfect onsen experience for families or couples that are looking for more privacy, yet still an authentic experience. The facility itself is well maintained and the in room outdoor private balcony spas are a very attractive feature. The additional spa services are also excellent.

Overall a great experience although not inexpensive. The only downsides to be aware of is that the public spa area is not very large or up to the same standards of the rest of the facility so if you fancy a full traditional Japanese onsen public spa then this would not be our pick. The only other downside of note is the actual location in the Hakone area is not particularly ideal and you will need to take a taxi to any nearby areas of interest. Even the walk from town is uphill and a bit treacherous.

On arrival, you feel as though you are in Bali, with a welcoming arrival drink to select while the staff prepare the check-in process for you. The room was fantastic, as the futons were the most comfortable futon of our futon stays, the private balcony bath was incredible, and the selection of beauty products were lovely. Dinner was an experience in the private dining room, with lots of different food on the menu to eat. The western option for Breakfast was enjoyable and of high quality. The location within the small town was lovely for a relaxing stay. The aquarium bar was very relaxing and unique for a drink before dinner. Recommend to others looking for a relaxing and memorable stay!

The dinner could have been better quality - some menu items left us wondering, and was strange compared to other Kaiseki cuisines we experienced. The staff seem to be working on improving the dinner and we still enjoyed the experience and thought overall it was tasty.
