We booked one night in a room with a private bath. The experience was fantastic. We were welcomed by friendly staff at the reception, who explained everything in detail. You can pick up a yukata that you can wear at all times in the ryokan. The room was spacious, with two futon beds and a 3-tatami space for lounging after a bath. The terrace with the bath was closed from others' view by a wooden fence but you could still see the greenery nad trees. The dinner was superb. We ordered an extra sashimi set and it was almost too much to eat in one sitting. The signature grilled sea bream was delicious beyond telling. You can walk to the ryokan from Hakone-Yumoto station - although the hill may be a bit steep for some and it may be very difficult with a large luggage.
We only regret not staying longer. Tonosawa Ichinoyu Shinkan is a fantastic place!

My husband and I spent months looking forward to a hot spring experience in Hakone, and this one really delivered! I have tattoos so I knew I couldn't go to a public bath -- we got a room here with an open-air bath and it was absolutely incredible. The bath itself is so warm and comfortable. We loved the futons, the tatami floors, the kotatsu, and the beautiful stained glass windows in the room. Dinner was a feast for the eyes and the stomach! I told the hotel ahead of time that I don't eat red meat and they adjusted the meal accordingly, which was very kind. Breakfast was just as good, with some Western options included in the buffet. We also loved the free drinks in the lobby!
The hotel was a little hard to find/get to. We took a bus from Odawara station, not knowing that we'd have to walk on the road and up a mountain (with our luggage) to get there. I wish we had been given more information on how to best arrive (like taking the train where you get to walk downhill to the hotel).

Location: in the forest, at small distance frome the village but near the train station. Neighborhood is very calm. The Access to the hôtel IS an aventure, (especially with big luggage it can be very physical) , but the walk IS very nice. The hotel is clean, well decorated, the staff IS helpful, kind and vey reactive. Traditional style room, it has all what it takes for a good stay, the private bath IS very nice. It Can be tight with large multiple luggage. The star of the stay IS dinner: Classy, very tasty, authentic. The breakfast (japanese style) IS very good.
Nothing. All was perfect for the stay

The rooms are quite traditional and quaint and it is in a very quiet area. It is a little removed from the main area, but it is a 15 minute walk away from town or you can get the train up, and then it's a 5 minute walk We didn't try the public onsen, but had a private one in our room and it was lovely. We ended up having dinner there and it was an incredible meal for great value in our opinion
The room was a little dusty, but that was our only complaint.

The kaiseki dinner is great. A variety of food, good tasting and generous amount. In room onsen is really a bonus (though a bit small, enough for 1 pax at a time). The public onsen (close and open) is nice! Have unlimited free drinks at the reception area, which is really a nice gesture.
This ryokan is a bit old. Though still has its charms, but the room could use some upgrades to make it more comfortable.

The personal rotemburo on the room balcony was relaxing. The dinners were outstanding. The staff was very friendly.
The walk from the Tonosawa bus station to the hotel was arduous with baggage. It seems to me the hotel could put instructions how to get there from above so one could walk down instead of up.

Traditional Japanese experience . Beautiful surroundings . Loved the Japanese baths
Was a bit of a hike to train station and taxis a bit hit and miss. Would have been lovely had the staff had enough English to explain the food and kimono etiquette etc

The room was comfortable although an indoor shower would've been nice after the in-room onsen. The dinner was fabulous, fresh and included drinks! Breakfast was also very nice. Best of all, the onsen experience was most relaxing and soothing!

Everything was perfect. The private onsen is a dream
Maybe the air conditioning system could be better. More infos about the location: we discovered on pur own a free shuttle to the public onsen to reach the hotel from the station.

Lovely multi level ryokan, we stayed on the top floor which have a beautiful view from the private Onsen on the balcony. The private Onsen definitely made the stay, it was awesome and so relaxing.
The room was pretty basic and bare, but had everything you need.
