Location was great, a nice walk to station and old town. Surrounding area was quiet and lovely, and the rooms were decently soundproofed. The view from our window meant we could watch the sunset from our bed over the hills. Staff were lovely and very helpful, and there is a free manga selection in the lobby were you can borrow books from to take and read in your room. Restaurant space is also open, outside of breakfast hours for free use, so you are able to do some work, or have some food at the tables whilst helping yourself to their available drinks. Onsen was small but nice, and the womens onsen needs a code to get into, so safety is a priority.

Bed was straight out of the flinstones (hard as rock) and the room is rather small, barely enough room for luggage, we had to climb over ours everytime we got on and off the bed. Toilet was also too small, and was pushed too far under the bench top so the back would sometimes fall and hit you mid use.

The location is 10 minutes walk from Takayama Station and 7 minutes walk from Miyagawa Morning Market. They have onsen, vending machines, and laundry. The room is clean.

The room is little bit tiny

The hotel is conveniently located 500m from Nohi Bus Center if you are taking the bus from Shinjuku or Tokyo to Takayama. The rooms are much bigger and spacious than the ones we found in Tokyo. Beds are very comfy as well. They provide unlimited welcome drinks for all guests after 3pm till around 11pm which I found to be very unique and hospitable. Overall lived our stay there and would recommend it highly to anyone who is looking for comfortable stay in Takayama.

The main thing we didn't like was the receptionist who was working at the day we checked in didn't seem very pleasant. My wife was having a bad headache and requested her of some paracetamol or pain relief tablets she just ushered me to a store that is a 10 mins walk from the hotel. Would have been nice if the staff were trained to handle such situations and could provide their guests with basic over the counter medicines if they are readily available which was the case in Tokyo hotels as I got to know.

The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. I liked the amenities and that they offer juice and water for free in the afternoon, evening free lounge.

We asked for a coffee in the morning and we were told we can not have it. We said we want to pay the coffee and the answer was we have to buy the whole breakfast. We want also to stay one additional night and they told us only twin room available and we must change room. On booking where I booked the room it was much cheaper and they had a queen bed foe accessible available. We decide to go to other hotel.

We stayed 4 nights in Takayama at the Wing. Compact, comfortable and clean rooms with good hanging space and layout. Japanese hotel rooms can be too small however while compact our twin room never felt cramped. A short walk to local markets and the bus station/JR station. Friendly and helpful staff. Comfy beds, great water pressure, good wifi.

A small niggle only: The free bicycles are very small and we were too tall to ride them so hired bicycles at Hara Cycle a short walk away

Room is very quiet and clean. There are body cream, facial cleaner, etc for the customer to choose at the lobby. The food quality of the breakfast is wonderful. The price of the room is reasonable and the staff is nice. I love the sitting room (restaurant) very much, drinks are provided in the afternoon and evening.

I occupy a single room, that is very small. For the breakfast, fruits are expected but none is available. If there is locker at the public hot spring, that will be perfect. It will be better if a weight machine for luggage is provided as well.

I cannot rate this place high enough. Has it's own onsen; rooms of the high standard you always get here; walking distance from the station; very central to the shops and markets. Staff recommended a bar for a quiet drink and "Tonio" turned out to be a great little watering hole. Tell the owner you're a Metallica fan and you've made a friend. Takayama was an overnight excursion for me, but this hotel, coupled with a delightful little town covered in snow, then a soak in the onsen, was a high point of my japan trip.

Nothing. Couldnt find fault with the place. Good price, in fact a real bargain. If your foot sore and need a day to recuperate, it's worth the train ride to get there.

Staff were nice and the public bath was really good

Location is a bit far from the train station for the summer heat. The rental bicycles were pretty wore down: one was had a broken reflector, all of the adjustment handles were broken and we were unable to adjust the heights of the handle or seat, I got scratched from the handle adjustment bar because bar to hold it was facing the rider.

Takayama Hotel - 2 annoyances. Firstly the power points were stupidly placed near the ground in the passageway to the bathroom making it easy to kick if you’re not paying attention & next to the RHS pillow making it easy to knock out. Secondly, the room was wasn’t big enough for 2 suitcases to be stored & I had to squeeze between the suitcase & the bed to get into bed However, the hotel was excellent overall with a wonderful onsen / bath on site.
