Excellent staff - friendly, helpful and professional. The hotel is set in lovely grounds with plenty of outdoor seating. The breakfast was great. We had self service the first two mornings in the light, airy conservatory overlooking the garden. The last morning we had the smaller dining room to ourselves and the a la carte menu which had some extra choices. Car parking is unobtrusive and plenty of spaces. One of the rooms had views over the garden and countryside beyond.

The showers in both rooms were difficult to control, particularly temperature. They were either too cold or scalding hot. Pressure was low, so not the best experience. One room had views over the roof and rusty fire escape which was disappointing as we had paid the same for both.

The location was very good for us as it was only 5 miles from our son and his family. The breakfasts were very good value and there was a good choice, especially when it was waitress service - buffet style when there were a lot of guests. The evening meal we had was very good and they catered for Gluten Free. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and professional.

Our room this time was rather small. We were given this room as there was a wedding happening on the last night of our stay and they didn't want us to be too disturbed by the event. We weren't disturbed. The window didn't close properly but as the weather was warm this wasn't a problem. When adivised of this, the receptionist made a note to get it sorted.

Stayed for a couple of nights for work. Room and hotel grounds were excellent, with a large free car park and very grandiose entrance. Make sure you don't turn into the Care Home on the way up the drive to the Hotel, as the signage is a bit confusing at first.

Breakfast was served from 7am, which was fine, with a good variety of cooked breakfast items, cereals and fruit. The only quibble I have is that the breakfast offering was inconsistent on each of the two consecutive days I tried it. One day there were no labels on the tea, coffee and hot water jugs, leading to an unfortunate incident where I poured coffee mistakenly onto my tea bag. This was rectified on the second day. However, there was black pudding available on the first day but not on the second.

The breakfast was lovely, everything was well presented and delicious. The staff were very attentive. The dining room was a little cramped , there had been a wedding the previous day so the guests seemed to have the use of the main dining room. This seemed a little odd to me . I’m not sure why we couldn’t have all used the same dining room? The hotel itself was lovely. We’d already been informed a week or two earlier that there was a wedding in the Saturday, so we were prepared.Our room was fine, the bathroom was a bit grubby looking but other than that ok. The staff were all fabulous.

The bathroom could have done with a good scrub!

We loved the style and location. They were very busy with 4 weddings over four days but the Manager still gave us a very warm welcome. They had accommodated us in a quieter part of the hotel and had emailed us to warn us about the weddings and level of noise anticipated. Very professional. Everything was beautifully clean and great decor. Breakfast which was included in our rate was very well presented and delicious with lots of choice.

The receptionist who ….when I asked about the Ubers …..asked what an Uber was…..when I told her it was like a taxi…..said “why didn’t you just say taxi then “…… a little rude I thought

Breakfast and all the food served are very good. Staff are very friendly and willing to help. Overall great area and value for money in the area. Room is always nicely cleaned, and room service is good.

It's just a little bit uncomfortable when there is functions at the hotel as you feel like you are entering someone else's space. Feels like you should stay in your room the whole time. Especially when there are functions on both nights of the weekend. Water pressure in the showers is not very strong.

What a hidden little gem ! The hotel had all the splendour, original features and great grounds that would be expected of an old property but with a feeling of warmth , complimentary to the age of the property but contemporary decor and homeliness added . The staff were all very friendly and very approachable. Each morning we enjoyed a very hearty breakfast with plenty of choice for continental breakfast as well a good choice of hot food. Our room in the garden wing was very comfortable and kept immaculate by the efficient cleaning team . We would highly recommend the hotel and we shall certainly be back when next in the area .

The information below is not a reflection of the hotel nor its staff who were all fantastic The couple in the room next to ours, Room 15, who argued until 2.30 in the morning and kept us awake. The female voice was so loud and didn't seem to want to give up then started again before they checked out. We had to go and knock on their door and also call reception to report the disturbance

it’s a beautiful looking building with stunning features, set in gorgeous grounds. The restaurant was lovely and the food was excellent. All staff were friendly, chatty, attentive and welcoming.

No lift so climbing 4 flights to the 3rd floor with baggage wasn’t ideal. I appreciate it’s an old building but this means it’s not inclusive. The bathroom window couldn’t close and so the bathroom was freezing cold. The blind didn’t fit the window meaning if you were below on the terrace you could see straight in and the loo was directly opposite. Although in fair condition, the room and bathroom felt tired and in need of updating.

Good location, handy for town centre. Wonderful grounds with a lovely outside seating area for a relaxing beverage or two! Very good breakfast with plenty of choice, high standard. All the staff were very helpful and extremely pleasant and friendly

Our room was off an extremely hot corridor, we had to keep our window wide open. Room a bit small but perhaps would have been bigger if we had paid for a more expensive one. This would not be sufficient to stop us staying there again though
