Great location without being noisy. The owners allowed us to park our three motorbikes in an out building which was great. Great evening menu with a choice of wines. we recommend the pies! enjoyed playing a few games of pool with a couple of the locals.

I was expecting my double room with a private bathroom at £88 to be as one of the ones shown in the pictures, however I got a room on the top floor with a small window set very high into the sloping ceiling which made walking around the bed difficult and a view of the surrounding fields impossible. Although we had to pay for a room that we didn't need due to late cancellation, the saving in not having to clean the room or change the bed was not off sett against the cost of two pack lunches. £2 for a packet of crisps and a soft bruised banana was a bit steep!

Great communication prior to arrival. Very warm welcome from the owner. Room (single) was a good size , nice and light and airy due to the ceiling height and long window. Shower room was in good order and again good for my stay. Had everything I needed for that night. Nice and quiet once the evening came. Had an evening meal and that was perfect. Waiter was attentive and friendly, yet professional. Breakfast was great, set me up for day and was very tasty. Bar area was cosy and felt like a really nice locals bar everyone very friendly. Right on the Cambrian Way and a bus stop near by so suited my stay.

The room was great. Breakfast was a buffet, rather flat really, cereals etc, no fresh croissants, but the cooked breakfast was fabulous. Dinner was good, but a rather limited menu , especially for vegetarians. The pub was great, small, quaint, open fire, super friendly locals and staff and good beer ! It would be nice to see more about who George Barrow was.

The rest of the hotel could do modernisation, but its a work in progress.

Great location and fabulous views from dining room and our room. Owner explained that they had staff shortages but the staff who worked while we were there were all very helpful and polite and we would not have really noticed if we hadn't been told! The room was adequate for our short stay - albeit the decor a little tired but was very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was fantastic - my wife has dietary needs which were very well (and carefully) catered for - nothing was too much trouble to ensure we were happy and well fed! We ate both nights in the restaurant - again fabulous service and good choice of food for my wife's dietary needs and plenty of variety for all tastes. The portion sizes were very large - so much so we couldn't manage a dessert - yet the prices for the main meals were very reasonable!

The location, near to Bwlch Nant y Arian was reason I chose hotel. Being able to get a light and tasty meal in the bar was very handy and my partner enjoyed a couple of pints with his meal. All the staff were very friendly and helpful

booked late and first room on top floor rather cramped and stairs too much for my partner. but the proprietress offered to move us down to first floor on second night when she had space. The second room was lovely with magnificent view over garden and valley behind hotel.

I stayed for two nights while cycling the Elan Valley - I arrived quite late the first evening but the owners had stayed up to check me in. The full Welsh breakfast was excellent, the dining room offers a panoramic view across to Plynlimon. I was made to feel most welcome, and arriving back the second evening soaking wet after a long ride I was delighted to find a log fire roaring away in the bar room. The evening meal was delicious too. This little hotel has been around for centuries, and deserves to continue for many years to come - many inns in the area have closed down, the owners are doing all they can to preserve the traditional hospitality offered to travelers, and I wish them every success.

Staying as a group on a cycle tour of Wales. This provided a mid Wales stop over. Our bikes were put in the garage. We had our evening meal, breakfast. Large portions. We had 3 rooms. I only realised the following morning there was the sound of waterfalls and also kite birds in the sky. We had a few evening drinks. All reasonable priced. This was exactly what we needed for the cycle tour. If any other items are needed, there is a petrol station just down the road.

This was exactly what we wanted. Remote location, fab little bar and super friendly owners and locals. Rooms were comfy and very clean with tea/coffee making facilities. Lovely nice powerful shower and nice big bath towels. Breakfast is a must! So much choice and if you opt for the full English it's all freshly cooked and lovely quality produce. Definitely will be returning, an absolute gem of a find if you are looking to stay out of the hustle and bustle of towns and cities.

Robs poached eggs for breakfast that I chose were fab! The evening meal was great and Karen and Clare were such caring lovely hosts really making sure all guests are welcome and special. It was in the most beautiful location imaginable.OK the road is on on side but the view of the red kites soaring over the mountains that the back where the dining room is, was just wonderful. George Borrow Hotel has the historic connections that deserve researching. Its an amazing area of outstanding natural beauty. The room was adorable with spotless facilities and I really look forward to returning here. Fantastic value for money and great walks. Much to see and wonderful Aberystwyth not too far away .

It was all perfect.

Staff were amazing, very friendly and polite, and went above and beyond for our group. Beautiful view from the garden area, great food on the evening menu.

The breakfast was good but had poor quality sausages. But that was literally the only negative thing I could say about the property. It’s simple, and fairly dated but the staff and their efforts more than make up for it.
