Really friendly welcome, great staff, good food and beer in the pub. Large and clean room. Rooms around the courtyard of the pub, so expect a lively atmosphere. I did not mind this at all but if you like to go to bed early and have silence, this might not be the right choice for you. After closing, very peaceful night. Fabulous location. You could stay here and not need to leave the building!

Room could do with a refresh in terms of paint - a little bit tired, but clean. Parking not possible right outside but not difficult to find either.

The room had everything I needed, towels, wash things, tea & coffee, biscuits, TV. Staff were so lovely and friendly. Full breakfast was included in the price and the chef did me veggie sausages especially and extra grilled tomatoes as I was the only one eating. Eggs, toast, beans, juice and tea & coffee. Staff were helpful when I needed scissors and a pen and also with directions for my journey back. Comfy bed and lots of plug sockets. Great stay and lovely central location to Amersham.

What's not to like about a pub that was built in 1530s. You can even get a decent Cider there. Which is more than I can say for some of the other pubs in the area. I was late for breakfast one morning and I got a knock on the door asking me if I wanted a sandwich made up for me. (NICE) the area is amazing it even has a river that comes and goes ?

The old English word for comes and goes is the name of the river /stream

Breakfast was nice but didn’t have any vegetarian sausages or mushrooms to fill the plate. Meat one was good thanks. Lots apologies tho. Lovely staff

Only part was the twin bed mattresses. Really need buy new ones as so uncomfy!! Only reason wouldn’t stay there again which is shame as they were fabulous hosts & couldn’t do enough for you.

Breakfast was excellent, the beds were comfortable, the temperature of the room was just right, and there was plenty of hot water. The location is great for the purpose of our visit which is to be near family.

In early January we stayed in room number 2 which we couldn't fault. This time we were in room 9 which is small, above the bar so a bit noisy, and accessed by a steep staircase with uneven treads - a bit of a safety hazard for us elderly folk! The TV in the room did not work very well. We were charged the same room rate for both visits but felt that room 9 should definitely be charged at a lower rate than room 2. Nonetheless, we would go again.

The location was excellent for us. The staff were really helpful and friendly.

The bed was really comfortable but the pillows were rock hard. Due to the heat, we slept with the window open but could hear every car/bus/person who went past on the street below, so we barely slept. The staff supplied bottled water as it was so hot but perhaps a fan in the bedroom would have helped so we could then close the window. Also, the carpet in our room (no.10) was filthy and stained.

The breakfast was great, the service was good with friendly and very helpful staff especially traveling with my elderly Mother. The staff gave us a great history of the venue which was really interesting. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean.

The only thing I disliked was that the room I had needed some decorating and tender loving care. There was no car parking but it was mitigated by the fact we could use the local British Legion car park for free which was about 100 metres away. Could have done with some complimentary water in the room.

Attached to a very traditional village pub in a very pretty old town. A perfect location from which to get into London for the night. The twin room we had was very spacious and worked a treat for our purpose which was a place to stay for one night whilst we took in a show in the City. Great value.

There was no vegetarian option on the breakfast menu, so maybe a gap worth plugging there.

Plenty of character & wonderfully helpful, friendly staff. Excellent breakfast served with a much appreciated human touch - we'd been to a funeral the previous day & the breakfast chef's kindness and attention to detail really cheered us up. Thank you.

Room a bit chilly & shower room needing a bit of a refurb, but more than made up for by warmth of the staff team.

Location was the reason we booked. The pub, staff & food was excellent. The local clientele also assisted to make a couple of great evenings.

The room was like an icebox, the radiator was turned off on arrival despite the cold weather. It appeared that the heating system was on a timer which was not on long enough to heat the room. The winter temperature, High ceiling and situated in an outbuilding certainly did not assist. Room 2 is also in need of some TLC, the curtains & hidden cobwebs need addressing.
