The Penny Farthing Hotel

Lovely motel style room. Car park seemed very secure with a barrier and cctv. Staff welcoming, friendly and helpful. Good selection of toiletries in the bathroom. Bed was comfortable. Hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. Good place to base oneself in the area, and reasonable rates.

The beige decor. Room was very gloomy as the lighting was inadequate. There was an aircon unit but ineffective. We had to leave the window open which felt insecure as on the ground floor. The whole room in need of a revamp. The shower was great but, again, looked like the tiles could do with regrouting.

The bed was really comfortable. Reception staff were very helpful. Bedroom and Bathroom were very clean. Bottled water was provided together with a selection of teas. Location was good and also having a carpark was a bonus. It didn't really matter that the hotel didn't serve breakfast as there were plenty of places nearby.

There wasn't any hot water for the wash basin on both nights we stayed there and no hot water on the 2nd morning we were there which was a shame. The shower had hot water on the 1st morning .

The area was great,hotel was quaint,good value for money.massive comfy bed,lots of pillows.Very clean.plenty of tea coffee milk water and biscuits.

We asked for quiet room if possible but were infront of the car park our room faced onto it,also a noise like a generator was going every 10 minutes ,staff came to room but didn't know what it was.There wasn't any other rooms available for us to change,I would definitely go back but try to book a different room.

the shower was very noisy and difficult to get to correct temperature. Had it running at good temp for me through the bath, switched it to the shower and then was alternating between burning and freezing. Took about 20 minutes to get to desired temperature

Room was perfect for our needs in a good location with easy parking. It was nice to enjoy all that the area had from this location.. especially the canal just behind! The coffee and tea facilities were good to have. The decor was nice and smart.

We were unaware that there was no breakfast offered which was a shame but it did not ruin our stay and we would still stay there again as it worked well as a ‘motel’. The room seemed a bit dark but that could have been the small courtyard window for light during daylight hours.

Staff are always fantastic...from check in to check out and in between! And to be brought a vase for my unexpected delivery of flowers for Valentine's was very thoughtful.

Good to be on the ground floor as didn't fancy carrying my case upstairs, but , being next to the path leading from the carpark to reception, it could be a bit noisy.

Friendly staff. Clean, good sized room with tv, hair dryer, ironing board/ iron and tea/ coffee facilities. Good location for our requirements. Comfy clean bed

The shower was terrible. We tried to set the temperature but it ran between freezing cold and boiling hot without touching it. I did bring this up with reception and they assured us it was to be fixed the day we were checking out. That didn’t help us but at least future guests should benefit.

It was hard to find the hotel on a dark rainy night. The hotel sign was dismantled and hidden down the alleyway just outside the hotel so you'd have had to find the hotel before you saw the sign! We had to walk up and down the high street a few times before we spotted the place. One of the bedside lights in our room didn't work at all and the other one was loose and a bit dodgy

A nice quiet, quirky little hotel, with parking, and friendly and helpful staff. No dining facilities, but easy possibility of stepping out into the high street and choosing from numerous cafes and pubs, so not a problem.

We couldn't find it in the dark! Although the address puts it on Berkhamsted High Street, it has no visible frontage on the high street! We found finally that it is best entered from Waitrose carpark round behind. Better guidance would have saved some angst and wasted time.

Something was making a noise throughout the night (every 20 mins or so). Couldn’t work out what it was. Not an issue if you’re a heavy sleeper!
