Bel and The Dragon at Red Lion Wendover

The rooms was fantastic, extremely well done and looked beautiful, exceptional facilities, having a fridge in the room was a bonus. Staff were very helpful and friendly. The food was delicious, both breakfast and dinner.

The wedding party on Friday night was a bit of a surprise, it would have been nice to have been warned about this when I checked in or when I booked. The music was very loud all evening, however it was quiet after 11pm. The biggest problem was how hot it was in the room, even with the fan on all night it just didn't cool down. A portable air con unit might be a better option than a fan.

Loved the historic building, the staff were wonderful , the food was excellent we are there every night at our favourite table. The bed was super comfy once you 'climbed' into it, my partner had a lovely birthday surprise made by the chef with 'Happy Birthday' written in chocolate. The hotel is right in the centre of Wendover with ample private parking, our room was at the front In the old building. The character of the building has been kept, we even got a hug on leaving!!!!

What didn't we like? Probably leaving, as it was very homely and the staff were wonderful.

our stay at bel and dragon Wendover was absolutely wonderful. the staff are a delight. we were all so exhausted after a 14 hour flight and we were greeted with a warm and cosy pub restaurant, super friendly staff, warm meal and warm bed. cannot ask for more. breakfast is the best. continental buffet of pastries, juices, cereal and fruit and freshly cooked hot English breakfast, eggs, vegan breakfast. best place to stay to discover the Chilterns.

the rooms were quite small. we stayed in a family room and it was a bit tight with all our luggage. but it was fine for us because we spent the day out and during the evenings we were all exhausted and went to bed early

Loved the ambiance. The food menu was not to our taste. Although the breakfast was good. Only thing missing was porridge. Loved our room. Shame the safety rail fell off the door. Just as well it was me and not my partner who has mobility problems which is why we had an accessable room.. Staff were very friendly and approachable.

Don't think the coffee machine in the room was necessary.. could have done with a chair at an appropriate height. A lot of older people have issues such as arthritis and are not in wheelchairs but still have mobility issues Such as sitting , standing and showering Accessable rooms always seem to cater for wheelchair users which is fantastic. But there is a growing number of older people who also have mobility issues and I think hotels tend to forget them.

Although none of us had visited Wendover before, we chose Bel and The Dragon at the Red Lion for a family gathering on the strength of its location, great reviews, and because it had a private dining room that we could book for our evening meal. A couple of us are a bit hard of hearing, so it was fantastic to be able to talk to everyone without having to contend with background noise. The food was absolutely superb, and the staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful - they were totally on top of the various dietary requirements, and had even learnt our names - I can't remember having service as good as this in the UK before! The rooms are very attractively refurbished (without affecting the historic character of the building), well equipped and extremely comfortable. The breakfast in the morning was top notch too, and the staff were as friendly at departure time as they were at arrival. All in all a real gem!

Family room was perfect. They had thought of everything to make it comfortable - night light in bathroom, curtain between the two sleeping spaces, mini fridge, chocolates, gin and dyson fan! Bed was comfortable and shower was great. The staff also brought my daughter a brownie with a candle in at breakfast for her birthday, and brought my other daughter one too. A wonderful touch that we were very grateful for.

Breakfast on the second morning was slightly disappointing. Lots of items missing at the buffet and not replaced, the hot food order was wrong and I had to send my eggs back as they were overdone. I can forgive this though as the quality of the ingredients was great, the rest of the place was so good and the staff were lovely.

Although the room was on the small side it still had everything we needed and some nice touches. It was very nicely decorated and the bed was super comfy. The complimentary gin was a lovely touch. Location was great with easy access to restaurants, pubs and walks, a great place to stay to explore the area.

We had been looking forward to sampling the food in the restaurant, but the meal on our first night was very disappointing so we ate elsewhere for the rest of our stay which was a shame. There was some noise from other guests, mainly dogs barking and people just being loud this was only on our first night and wasn't the hotels fault. The central heating could be very noisy at times, but not for long, I guess just while it was heating up? & to be fair, despite the few negatives we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and didnt like leaving.

The room was lovely, nice decor, comfy bed, nice little touches of water and milk in the fridge and some gin, chocolate and a vast array of tea and coffee. Luxurious toiletries in the bathroom. Great beer options and cosy indoors in pub. In summer the outside was nice, I imagine in winter with a fire burning it’s heavenly inside! Staff were universally lovely and helpful. Breakfast was fantastic. Great options available as well as a buffet.

My partner is vegan and despite contacting the hotel pre visit, there were no plant based milk options in the room and the cauliflower dish in the restaurant was undercooked and lacking flavour. I did feel sorry for staff serving at breakfast as they were exceptionally busy, maybe more staff required? (Still friendly, accommodating service though)

We really enjoyed our stay. Beautiful building in a great location. The room was lovely with a comfortable bed and great quality bedding, toiletries and tea/ coffee/ chocolate/ sloe gin! Lots of options for breakfast.

Breakfast service was much better one day than the other. It was busy with only one person serving and basic things like putting out glasses and plates for the buffet weren't being kept on top of so lots of people were waiting. A smart TV in the room would be good. Our room (3) had a lot of noise from the road but I'm sure the rooms further back are better.

Lovely room, very nicely decorated, slept very well as the bed was so comfortable and the room quiet It was too hot for me so I was pleased to be able to open the window Having a fridge was a bonus Very nice bathroom with a great shower and Bramley toiletries Breakfast was excellent, as was the meal the evening before (if a bit pricey) I enjoyed the gin treat in the room Plenty of free parking I wouldn't hesitate to stay again

There was nothing at all to dislike Just a couple of small things to note... The lamp on the desk had no bulb (and the spares weren't the right type) I couldn't use the coffee machine as it just seemed to crumple the pod and only water came through
