My husband and I got off the wrong train station. It was getting dark and close to the closing time when we need to pickup our luggage from the station. We called the owner of the hostel. He immediately came to pick us up. We made to the station to get the luggage. He is the nicest guy. This is the experience we’ll remember for a long time. The room is clean. We were able to see the mountain Fuji sunrise from our room in the cold winter. We’ll definitely come back here next time when we visit Japan again.

I've never before felt such peace and warmth in a hostel. This place is special. The owner is an amazing person: very helpful and attentive, and he gives good tips about places to see in the area. He even gave me advice regarding my future travel plans! Everything in the hostel was clean and well maintained. The dorm room bed was very comfortable, the best night's sleep I've ever had in a hostel. Some credit for that good sleep must be given to the general feeling of safety: all solo female travelers out there, I highly recommend this place! One of the best things for me was the view to the garden and to Mt. Fuji, visible from the common room window. If you need to take a break from busy travel schedules, or need a breather after exhausting yourself in Tokyo, take a vacation from your vacation and check out this hostel. Slow down a bit. Sit by the window, drink a cup of tea and take in the view.

Michi, who owns and runs the property, picked me up from Lake Kawaguchi station on short notice (it's about a 30-minute walk otherwise but with stunning views). He speaks incredible English and is super friendly. The house is really clean, kitchen with tea/coffee and fridge/microwave. Needed to do some laundry which Michi accommodated despite it being past the usual hours to use the machines. Cup noodles are available to buy, otherwise bring your own food or eat at one of the local restaurants (I didn't get to try this). The living room is very peaceful with views of the garden and Mount Fuji. Michi runs 3 trips back to Lake Kawaguchi between 8-10 in the morning.

The owner is the sweetest guy and tried everything to make us feel comfortable. He also offered to fetch us from the train station. When I told him that I freeze easily I got a lot of extra blankets 😊 The house is wonderful and feels very typical japanese. The overall feeling in this property is welcoming and engaging to connect - with travelers from abroad and Japan.

Please consider the timing we went there as it started to snow and was freezing outside. It got cold pretty easily inside due to poor isolation of the house. Therefore we had to keep the heater running through the nights and the bathrooms were pretty cold. The location is not central or close to the train station. Also I would not recommend to walk from the train station (we did) as it is along the main road with barely any sidewalks. Said that - it felt wonderful real and not too touristy.

We love the owner of the hostel and the property itself! The hostel is very nice and well maintained. Cleanliness is the best among everything. You can also see mt. Fuji from the backyard. There is common area where you can sit and enjoy food/chatting with friends (but trust me, you will be spend more time outside enjoying the lake Kawaguchiko ;)). The owner also super helpful and polite. He picked up from the station(you need to tell him the arrival time). He can speak English, so no worry about the communication.

Property located in the residential area, very quiet and far from city center. However, we love the location because it’s just 5 mins walking to the lake! It takes around 10 mins to go to the convenience store (7-11), but this is not a problem as it’s safe to walk even at night time.

I had the pleasure of staying at Hostel Michikusa-ya, and it was an exceptional experience. Michi, the owner, is an absolute gem of a human being. From the start, he picked me up from the station, ensuring a smooth check-in. His warm hospitality and genuine care for every guest made this stay truly remarkable. The location is spectacular, with Mt. Fuji as the breathtaking backdrop. Waking up to this view every morning from the common area is a dream. The facilities are clean and comfortable, and Michi's willingness to offer advice and help with any needs truly stands out. I extended my stay because I couldn't bear to leave. If you're looking for an unforgettable Mt. Fuji experience with a wonderful host, look no further than Michi's hostel. It's a hidden gem that I wholeheartedly recommend. Thank you, Michi, for making my stay special.

Absolutely lovely hostel! The owner/manager was very nice and even offered to shuttle guests between the train station and hostel. Beautiful, traditional Japanese home with wooden floors and tatami. The common living area was so relaxing, and on a clear day you can catch a glimpse of Mt. Fuji. The little kitchenette had everything you needed to make a quick, easy meal. There was laundry available as well for a small fee. The shared shower area and bathrooms were also kept very clean and tidy, even with the hostel full. We didn't really run into many issues where we had to wait to use either. The room was very cozy and tidy as well. There is heating available, which was helpful given how chilly it is in the area at night.

The futons need to be thicker for sure. They were so thin that it felt like we were sleeping on the floor and both of our backs hurt the next morning. My backpacking sleeping pad is more comfortable than the futons were. This is a given with older houses where some of the walls are just paper screen doors, but don't expect too much noise isolation. We could hear almost everything upstairs and downstairs.

Staying here was one of the best parts of my trip to Mount Fuji! It’s a beautiful and comfortable home, with an unbelievable view to Mount Fuji in the backyard! Michikusa san is one of the most welcoming, sweet and funniest person I’ve ever met, who made me feel like home. He can pick you up and drop you off at kawaguchiko station. I met incredible people who were staying there as well. I recommend this place 100%! A little tip: the closer konbini it’s a little far from there, so I recommend to buy whatever you want before going :)

The owner is amazing! He came to get us at the station and also brought us there when we left. He also helped us with our routes and gave advice about everything we asked. Very kind and cheerful. We only stayed for one night but we wished we could do more. The place is also amazing. Gorgeous Mt. Fuji views and is located near a park with wonderful lake&Fuji views (specially at sunset). The place is clean and it's well decorated. There's a kitchen, laundry and a common space to use. That really helped.

The walls are thin and other guests may wake you up before sunrise. Not the owner's fault, of course.

The hostel is very clean and beautiful. It has a Japanese style living room that has a direct view of the Mount Fuji! The toilet and shower rooms are also very clean. The owner serves travelers by himself with so much care and kindness, he also speaks English well enough for communication. On my visit I planned to do a cycling trip but since I didn't want to be charged by bicycle shops for luggage storage, I asked the owner if he can store my carry-on bags and he kindly accepted my request (but if you have big ones, hostel might not have enough space). That was just so helpful because from my experience not many hostels would like to keep luggage for travelers. Would definitely recommend friends to stay there too!

WiFi speed and stability has much room to improve.
