The room was comfortable and clean and entirely adequate for our needs. The facility is a bit "aged" but well kept. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Overall impression was good. I would recommend this to other travelers not in need of extreme luxury.

The facility is a bit distant from the station and restaurants etc. This is not a problem for young folks who can walk, but a bit difficult for those with mobility challenges. Transportation by bus is available but not convenient.

Close to the lake. 15min walk from Kawaguchiko train station. Traditional Japanese style rooms. Wonderful view on lake. Upper floor has hot spring bath (onsen) with view on lake and Mt. Fuji. And it is included in room price. Water cooker in room.

Hotel might be a bit retro style, but is still very nice

A wonderful traditional stay (opt in for the Japanese tatami room!) that overlooks the lake and Mt. Fuji. The experience checking both in and out was easy and free of any difficulty as the staff speak English well. They operate a shuttle service to/from Kawaguchiko station that made getting around very convenient. Both the male and female onsen have a beautiful view of Mt. Fuji. The staff are all incredibly pleasant, hospitable, and helped us with recommendations as well as any questions we had about the area. The hotel in general has a dated feel/look to it that adds to its charm. Everything was clean and easy to locate. Definitely recommend this stay if you’re looking for a budget friendly hotel with great views and friendly staff!

Like already mentioned, the hotel does have a dated feel and look that may not be well received by everybody but for us, it definitely added to the hotel’s overall charm and location.

Very charming older property. The staff were all very nice. We loved the views from the hotel! The onsen has a view of Mt Fuji. Our room (216) was at the end of the building, giving us one window with a beautiful view of Mt Fuji as well, and the other main window had a fabulous view of the lake. I highly recommend paying for the breakfast - it was one of our favorite meals of our entire Japan trip.

The property looks slightly dated and could use some maintenance and/or renovation. The onsen is cool but also looks rather dated as well. These are by no means dealbreakers for me. If we ever return back to Mt Fuji, this will definitely be our hotel of choice!

We had a wonderful room with a view of Mt. Fuji. We recommend the Breakfast, it is very good. The staff make you feel at home and it is very comfortable. This hotel would be great for Europeans and Americans that do not like the glitz and clamor. It's close to Nature, right across the road from the lake. It is quaint with an old time charm and classy.

There was nothing not to like. Only very fussy/picky people wold not like this hotel. If you don't like comfort, then it is not the place for you.

There wasn’t much we didn’t enjoy. The showers were a bit small but we weren’t expecting the Ritz.

What makes the Kawaguchiko Hotel a stand out for me was the staff. From check-in to check-out nothing was a problem. When the ladies in the dining room learned that one of us had allergies to egg, dairy and wheat, they went above and beyond to make sure she had the perfect breakfast. And the breakfasts are next level amazing! The courtesy shuttle to and from the station is an added bonus.

There was nothing negative I can say. Other reviews talk about the dated decor, but this is all a part of the authentic charm of the hotel.

The gentleman manager at the front desk was excellent. I think his name is Mr Amano. He assisted us in whatever query we had and any service we required. The guy who rode the shuttle van too was good. The kitchen staff ladies were so lovely and attentive. Our breakfasts were always so tasty and filling. We had the end room with a wondeful view of Mt Fuji. I would have liked the Tatami traditional rooms but too difficult for us older folks - especially at night if using the bathroom. The location is ideal. Close to restaurants near by and right across the lake. Stunning views from the hotel waiting area too.

We were trying to enquire about the shuttle service from the train station via Booking.com site to contact the hotel but no-one picked up the calls. Tried several times. Ladies sauna didn't have a view of Mt Fuji, unlike the men's sauna. Everything closes early, so be prepared with food options or more importantly, transport option, if you are not close to the hotel. Not many taxis, so we had to wait for a long time for one to take us back to the hotel at night. There are always long queues at the taxi stand - so beware

We stayed here two nights. The hotel is not new. The men at the front desk as very business like, but we enjoyed our stay. The beds in our room were on tatami mats on the floor, which we were aware when we booked. We had some extra mattress pads in the closet, so we doubled them and they were very comfortable. Room was clean. Bathroom was basic. View of the lake was great. Each room has an individual thermostat. (We turned ours way down and had a window open in April.) Two chairs in the room. No modern extras, like a coffee maker or lights for the bed area which you can dim. BREAKFAST. The breakfast alone makes this hotel worth the trip. Traditional Japanese breakfast served as a traditional Japanese breakfast. Two hot pots plus. VERY friendly women who obviously take great pride in the breakfast service. Great location on the lake. Convenient for hiking and biking.

Rooms which were not in use were not heated, or the heat was turned down. This was not an issue for us and some of the complaints I have read seem unreasonable. We wore sweaters and were comfortable.

Great location, perfectly located for those planning an ascent to Mount Fuji: walking distance from Kawaguchiko station and the bus to the Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station. Amazing views of Kawaguchiko lake and Mount Fuji (especially from the onsen and the rooftop observatory). To top it off, very friendly staff, good vibe in the hotel and a sumptuous yet reasonably priced breakfast. A touch of history as well, with period pictures and tableware from the notable visit of Emperor Hirohito back in 1957.

The weather was poor (to no fault of the hotel of course), which torpedoed our plans for an ascent to Mount Fuji. To our surprise, the toilet in our room did not have any of the fancy features that Japanese toilets usually have. The hotel is quite old and some of the facilities do show it.
