I loved the facility itself. The Onsen was delightful and I used it many times while there. It was a huge benefit to me as they allowed tattoos (which many Onsen don't). They were very kind and understanding.

I would recommend getting the meals included as eating in the room is not allowed. It was also difficult to get to the location by foot as there is no pathway and you have to walk on the road. Just some things to keep in mind.

The room we gad is with the balcony and it is spacious for the 3 of us with our large luggages. The 2 onsens (one small one that can fit 3 and a large one) is nice but there is specific timing for Men and Women. Large Onsen time is 6am -11am for women, Small Onsen 11am-10pm for Women. For men it is the opposite. The walk to the guest house is uphill with some stone steps, so if you are carrying luggages you may need to factor them in.

Wish they could alternate the large onsen timing for women to night time.

The bath was great and there were two sides, big and small and the sides changed according to genders each day. The bath had natural minerals and wasnt too hot and had a nice view to the garden. Our room was a traditional japanese bedroom with beautiful decorations and comfortable futon matresses. Breakfast had plenty of japanese dishes, many that we tasted the first time. There was also space for lounging and spending time comfortably. The location is remote but easily reachable by the sightseeing bus that stops at nearby town center. There are a few places to eat and at least one convenience store within a walking distance, but the area is very quiet and calm. Nature and mountain views make for relaxing evening walks!

Wonderful traditional experience. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Preorder meals if you want to eat there, otherwise there are other options a short walk away. A Taxi will take you directly to the carpark if you don’t want to walk. Busses are convenient too, just check the schedule’s. The walls are quite thin so bring earplugs to avoid hearing neighbours. Overall a lovely place to experience the onsen.

Very traditional feeling and authentic ryokan experience. Additionally the staff were very nice and accommodating. I didn't know how to reserve breakfast and dinner beforehand and did not realize they could not be added last minute. The manager was still able to fit us in for breakfast and dinner the next day at an appropriate cost.

While location was in nature, it was hard to get to by local transport and foot. It is only convenient by car, which we did not have.

Everything about this stay was wonderful. The staff were amazing! Very friendly and accommodating, they took great care of us. We travelled with my parents and booked them the western style bedroom as my dad can not get down and up from the floor. Its quite rare to find a ryokan with a western style room and this was actually one of the reasons we booked this hotel. The bed was a bit hard but the room was nice. I had a normal traditional room which was fantastic. The food was incredible. Huge quantities and all delicious. On the second day the staff made my dad a western style breakfast of eggs, bacon and hash browns because he didn't like Japanese food for breakfast. The onsen here is one of the best I have ever experienced. It is a very cloudy (and stinky) one. My skin felt amazing. The room with a view of the bamboo forest is incredible. I traveled with a 3-month-old baby and it was perfect. They gave us a baby bath to use in the onsen room. I will be coming back here for sure!

From the car parking to the front door you have to walk up a number of steps. If you are elderly this could be a problem. Personally for me i can not fault the experience though.

Beautiful traditional Onsen. Very welcoming, and the dinner and breakfast were exceptional.

Getting there was hard, as we had large suitcases , as did others, and the only public transport were local buses. Once everyone is on we were all trapped like sardines. Very hard to use this form of transport when the area is so popular.

My daughter is a vegan and our initial hotel in the Hakone region asked us to cancel last minute as they were not prepared to cater for her dietary requirements. Hakone Onsen Sanso Nakamura were extremely helpful and bent over backwards to create meals (breakfast and evening) which she was able to eat. I cannot fault them for their respect and friendliness.

Only a slight niggle, the men's toilet was a bit whiffy, but it didn't detract from a very memorable two nights stay.

We liked everything about this place, it was beautiful and the traditional Japanese room was charming and also very spacious. The futons were comfortable, the staff was polite, helpful and kind; and the onsen was great! We fell in love with this place.

If you walk to the hotel, there is quite a long and steep hill to climb to reach it.
