The room was beautiful and the staff was OK (especially in the restaurant). In general, we were satisfied!

We only informed during our visit from a local guy we got to know that the hotel is located in a quite dangerous neighborhood in Mexico City (even though it's close to the Zocalo) so the streets in the area are quite empty as of 20:00 and there are no restaurants or shops around accordingly, although it is not really the hotel's fault... They lock the door at around 23:00 and you're not allowed visitors and the water in the shower suddenly changed from cold to war and vice versa but it was not that serious (although I was supposed during the winter it may be). The breakfast only offers meals from a menu and there is no buffet but the food it goos

Beautiful hotel in a great location. Quiet spot just off main roads. Walking distance to Zocalo and museums. Very good housekeeping and clean facilities. Breakfast was lovely.

Room toilet has an opening between door and ceiling so not very private

The staff were very helpful and attentive. My room was cleaned daily with fresh towels and the bed made. The room came with unlimited bottled waters. The bed was super comfy. I also loved the full sized mirror in my room.

My room was located on the side of the club Rosaleda. The nights that the club was active I could hear the music from my room. It also made me feel a little unsafe opening my balcony window since I was staying alone in my room. For this reason I kept my bedroom balcony shut during the night.

Casa de la Luz was AMAZING! 500+ year old building with a ton of history but with ALL the modern refinements you expect in a boutique hotel, with staff that were super friendly and helpful (24 hours of the day by the way). If you don't speak Spanish, don't worry, all the staff speak (varying levels of) English and the nicest people! We got to know Lionel & Damian (servers at breakfast), and Jesus & Rigoberto (front desk) very well, along with many other colleagues whose names I've forgotten now. The decor and the architecture of the hotel was gorgeous. Just beautiful. The rooms were amazing too. So spacious, so clean (couldn't find a speck of dust), and the bed was comfy. The shower was so big we could've easily fit like 8 people in it no problem haha. And you know this hotel didn't skimp on anything because all the shampoos and soaps etc were from the luxury French brand, L'Occitane. The rooms were also super quiet. We stayed in one of the rooms facing the front and on weekends there's a nightclub nearby but once we closed our windows, we couldn't hear a thing! That is some good soundproofing! The fact that the breakfast was free/included every day was awesome, especially since it wasn't some lame breakfast. No, every morning you get fresh juice, coffee or tea, a fresh fruit plate, fresh bread or pastries, AND you get to choose 1 main from about 2 dozen legitimate Mexican dishes. My favourite were both of the enchiladas!

Booking: This trip was a vacation planned by myself and my best friend to celebrate our 40th birthdays. We really wanted to stay at a luxury hotel, and Casa de la Luz showed up during my search, I was a little thrown off by the dim appearance of the bedrooms in the listing, however, based upon the amazing ratings and its location I chose to give it a try. From the beginning, the hotel was communicative to my requests for confirmation of booking. They even offered to have a car ready to pick us up at the airport. Amenities and staff: Upon arrival at Casa de la Luz I was already very impressed with the staff. Staff quickly took our bags into the rooms, we were greeted by English and Spanish speaking staff members who helped orient us with the hotel. Staff members were incredibly helpful in giving advice for tours, assisting us in arranging last minute sight seeing tours, and even giving us taxi service when we wanted to go to Coyocan, or assisting us to other sight seeing areas like the anthropology museum. Items in the minibar were available for purchase, however the Nespresso pods and bottled water were complimentary. Our rooms were tidied up daily with clean towels and beds made. Our water and coffee was also regularly replaced while we were out. The room has a safe that we made use of for excess money and jewelry which was also a nice touch. Beds, were comfortable and warm. Oh and the complimentary welcome drink on the terrace! LOVE! Appearance: This hotel was STUNNING, the rooms were Lovely, the restaurant and wait service was wonderful! The hotel itself is a historic building, built in the 1600s-ish I believe. Many original parts remain and it has been artfully renovated. The rooms were clean and quiet. My room was 115 looking out into the square. It was very quiet, and we slept very well. Other reviews about loudness from the street was not at all our experience. Balcony doors were double paned.

I would 100% stay here again, however, I think an area of improvement would be the breakfast service. All dishes are made to order and were very delicious, however, it all took more than an hour. Not a huge problem, just advice for others to give yourself time for breakfast.

The hotel staff at Casa de la Luz was friendly and extremely helpful. We arrived way too early due to flight changes. Even though our room wasn't available, they were very attentive and nice while we were resting in the lobby. On the day we left, there was a protest so the roads were blocked around the hotel location. The concierge on duty helped us communicate with the Uber driver and walked with us for blocks to get to the area where the driver was able to pick us up - we made it to the airport on time because of him! Not to mention - the building itself was beautiful with lots of history, the location was super convenient, and the inclusive breakfast was delicious :) I plan on staying here again if I visit Mexico City in the future

The breakfast was DELICIOUS! We invited local family to come and meet us for breakfast. They were not familiar with the hotel or restaurant, they loved the food and service as did we.

It's not that I dislike this, although it may be a negative for others: You cannot walk into the lobby at all hours of the night. It wouldn't be convenient due to the doors being closed for security purposes. There is a night security attendant available if you ring the doorbell.

I liked that the breakfast was included, as most places do not always make that an inclusion. I liked that everyone was always helpful in pointing me in the right direction of where I needed to be as my phone sometimes didn’t work outside the hotel.

There was only one time that the person who cleaned my room forgot to lock it and the door was open, which I did not appreciate. I only mentioned it in passing but it didn’t happen again.

It was so special to stay here with close proximity to a lot of the sights and tour buses. The restaurant and breakfast are fabulous and although it is an open space I still felt privacy. Modern bathrooms were so nice and clean, hot water. Good coffee pods too (it’s the little things that matter..)

Unfortunately the week I was staying there were roadworks right outside. I asked to move rooms and the staff were super accomodating to my request, once the road works are completed, am sure it will be a beautiful room to stay in Superior room with balcony. It is higher in cost than some other hotels, but this is a boutique hotel and has so much history.. really an experience of a lifetime!

The hotel is beautiful with a 500 year historic building, lovingly restored. I had a room with a tiny balcony overlooking the neighborhood square and loved watching the neighborhood below. The staff are fantastic, the room, spacious and comfortable, the heating and cooling were perfect and breakfast was delicious, the restaurant upstairs has delicious food but spotty service. I love staying at Casa de la Luz.

The only drawback is that the central location, convenient for many things, has terrible traffic when you are trying to get out of the district or back in. I would recommend learning the subway system. Uber was effective, safe and accommodating, but the journey across the City often was long because of traffic.
