The Elephant & Castle Hotel

The staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast on day 1 was fine. Room was nice and we liked the view. Overall the room was clean and very nice. Room booked was deluxe with river view.

Breakfast service day 1. Staff need to be mindful that their customers aren't deaf and can hear the swearing coming from the kitchen. Breakfast service on day 2 wasn't great. They can't wait for you to finish eating cereal etc before they bring the cooked breakfast out resulting in a cold breakfast. Coffee isn't great so tried using boiled water and a coffee sachet again the coffee wasn't very hot. Overall the room was clean but the sink plug was very dirty. Very limited menu for evening meal and they were out of alot of things for main and dessert course. There was a row of motorbikes outside the dining room doors for breakfast. When they start up the petrol fumes can be smelt in the dining area.

Great location; nice big family room; cleanliness of room; tea tray was pleasantly full, large, clean bathroom.

Breakfast was somewhat frugal: small cereal containers and bowls, cooked breakfast (only 1 bacon rasher, 1 undercooked sausage, and wrinkled mushrooms) was not freshly cooked but merely kept warm, I sent mine back; having to use an inauspicious back entrance to return to the hotel in the evening, with warning of a charge if you lose the key to this room; warning of ‘don’t keep your room key next to your phone’ as you’ll be charged if you can’t get in; public decor badly in need of redecoration (scuff marks on walls, stair carpets need replacing/cleaning).

Lovely accommodation and excellent location for what I needed. I had a river view and this was so pretty. Very peaceful there.

Sadly the shower in my room, 101 was absolutely pathetic. I would not recommend anyone wash their hair while they stay there (if they have this room) because the water just trickled out. I booked the room with breakfast included however, following booking I received a message to say no breakfast served on a Monday morning. This was disappointing and there was no reflection in the cost of the stay.

Beautiful river view room with juliet balcony. Very comfortable and quiet room. Hotel has a lift which is always a bonus.

Bar closes early (there are plenty of other bars very close by, so not a real problem). Breakfast very disappointing. For £130: per night for B&B, a self service breakfast of limited choice cereals and supermarket white bread really didn't impress us. During the week, they apparently serve cooked breakfasts, but not at weekends.

Owner and staff were extremely friendly. Whilst travelling alone for work its always nice to stay in a friendly and open environment, and this hotel certainly didn't disappoint. After been given my room key of a lovely room I went downstairs for dinner and a drink in the nice pub/restaurant. After dinner I had a chat with the owner and staff whom were all very friendly. I was there for work, but if I would be going on holiday in the area, i would definitely stay a few nights with them again. I can recommend!

Loved the room the Cwtch it was really nice and comfortable ,warm with a view of the river Severn, the bed was massive and really comfortable. breakfast was quite good but no Black pudding. Which I love.

Didn't like that there was no restaurant open in the evening ,not even bar snacks, so we went to a well known chain next door that was packed and probably cheaper.I understand it is difficult to get staff these days but next door managed it.

The room was a good size and very clean, with Tea & Coffee making facilities. The breakfast was great, as I'm Gluten Intolerant they provided me with Gluten free toast, which was a great touch as normally this is not offered in other hotels, so I felt privileged. The location was great as it is by the river, which made for a lovely walk in the evening.

The only thing that I thought was strange rather than I didn't like, was when my dinner came I wasn't offered any sauces, especially having a burger and chips! But other wise great food.

Mike the Manager really helpful and friendly. Great central location. We upgraded to a River view executive room and what a lovely room it was too. The most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in and so relaxing just listening to the river. I would imagine the front of hotel to be noisier especially as there is a nightclub opposite. The cooked breakfast was included and it was very nice. If we are that way again, we will definitely re book

Lovely big room, nice breakfast, lovely situated on the river side and easy walk to the rest of the town.

Room overlooks the cinema which is a nightclub on Saturday nights and very noisy in the early hours when the revellers get kicked out. Rooms were a little tired and room 102 had a problem with its floor which was soft and sagging.

Hotel in central location and with good car park. Staff very friendly and helpful. Our room was larger than I was expecting and the view of the river was worth paying extra for. Breakfast served promptly and there was nice fresh coffee. Lift to our room was always there - never had to wait for others to use it - very quiet on the times we were going in and out.

Liked it all - would use again.
