This is the place I always stay when in Launceston. It is conveniently located--only a block up from the city centre, with its eateries, shops and the Princess Theatre. The Balmoral on York offers free off-street parking. My room--as usual--was quiet, very clean, well-designed and -furnished (with a two-seater sofa, good lighting, a table and chairs, quiet, a fridge and even a footrest). WiFi and TV were good. The hot water was instant, the shower excellent and the bed comfy. Oh, and the window could be opened!

Of the only two negatives, the first was just that the loo [toilet] paper was thin. The second I see as a fad everywhere nowadays: The bedding consisted of but a bottom sheet, a top sheet and a thick, covered doona [eiderdown]. Sheets alone are fine for a summer night and a doona is welcome in winter...but what about all the months between the extremes? All night one starts with the doona up, then tosses it off, then drags it back on.... A couple of cotton blankets instead would be most welcome--if laughably old-fashioned.

Staff were very helpful and made us feel most welcome. Room was older but a great size.

A few more options for the continental breakfast would be appreciated.

Easy access with the lifts, very good onsite parking. Good instructions on entering and night access. Lovely staff, eager to please n very helpful. Bed was quite firm but not hard, good pillows. Nice fluffy towels, extra bench in bathroom very handy. Great to have dining table n chairs n lovely couch facing the TV. Small fridge ….had to remove most mini bar items to fit my milk n juice in. Good range of crockery n cutlery. Continental breakfast was quick an easy with a range of toast, cereals and fruit.

It is disappointing that rooms are not serviced on a Sunday, but I do understand this may be difficult for staffing.

STAY HERE!! Location / price / view / service / awesomeness!!! THE OWNER Lets start here! Tim, who is the owner and lives local is sensational and really makes the stay absolutely awesome!!! He has a yarn with all the guests at breakfast (which was included) and makes the effort to ask questions and get to know the guest :) wow - what a difference this makes to a stay! I never realised it until I met Tim - what I also loved was that you can tell he has REAL PRIDE in his business as he talks excitedly about the upgrades he is going through and this excitement for the business flows on to the staff that work for him who were all lovely, happy, friendly and helpful 1. I was upgraded upon checkin - my room was awesome! Top level great views! 2. I had a late checkout which was great as I had a late flight 3. Help with info on where to go and what to see - specifically Tim saying to come down and see him daily if I needed help on where to go 4. Shuttle service to airport help 5. Had an early check in at 12pm - Tim accomodated me as I had an early flight Tim even helped to organise the airport shuttle for me and called them up to secure a good price 😀 what service!! If only all owners took a page out of Tims book THE ROOM Wow! Loved it! Nice, clean with awesome views!! I was lucky to get upgraded and had top floor views over Launceston town and I couldnt wait to head back to the room after a day of exploring The bed was soooooooooooo comfortable and the BEST pillows ive ever experienced - I hope I can find 1 to buy for myself! So good! The shower… hello! What great pressure and hot water is fantastic! Mini fridge and microwave with cutlery if you want to have your own meals (which I did) so was perfect for me and one of main reasons I chose this accom BREAKFAST Amazingggggg fresh fruit!!! Chopped fruit around 8 options - this was the best part for me!

The hotel is conveniently situated close to restaurants and bars, making it easy to explore the local dining scene. Ample parking space is available on the property, which is a definite plus. The hotel manager was kind enough to accommodate us for a late check-in, which we appreciated. He also provided us a lot of recommendations for restaurant options and tour activities. Our room was large and spacious, providing plenty of room to relax. The check-in and check-out process was very fast and easy. Overall, our stay was comfortable.

Please take note that there wasn't enough shower cream and shampoo provided for two people. The continental breakfast offered was average, but you have the option to upgrade to a hot meal for an additional cost.

James, the night manager, was very welcoming when we arrived very late at night. The breakfast was exactly what we needed to get through the morning. Staff were attentive and the premises was very clean. It's in a great location.

The hot water was touch & go at times but as the hotel was filled to the brim on the Saturday night and it was a very cold (-1) the next morning the poor tank may have had a melt down!! The heating broke down on the last night but James promptly met us at the door with a replacement heater.

We were travelling as a couple seeing Tassie over 2 weeks. We had stayed at Crowne plaza Hobart so had set our standards high after that but we were so impressed with balmoral on York the room was renovated and staff amazing and price absolute value for money the breakfast served here included continental and hot dish made to order best breakfast whole trip fresh and hot way better than a full buffet .

There was nothing to not like

We had to get to Launceston a day earlier than planned and booked in for one night because we couldn't add another day or cancel our existing booking. What a gem of a place, an excellent find! Very clean room, nice decor, comfy bed, subscription-based streaming service easy to connect to on TV (do not have that ease of connection where we were originally booked into) enough space to put two bags on rather than on the floor (many places neglect this important aspect), view across Launceston, and has an elevator (many places don't; we had to cart our luggage up 4 flights of stairs where we originally booked; it is a very old building). Breakfast was next-level sensational, cooked breakfast if you wanted it; the manager's attention to detail was outstanding. He is extremely friendly, helpful, happy, and a fountain of knowledge if you need anything, nothing is a problem. Highly recommend Balmoral on York.

Welcoming reception. Room was larger than average with a large sunny balcony . Everything was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Well equipped room - desk, comfortable sofa, nice comfy bed with good linen, fluffy towels, iron and board, microwave etc. WiFi was very good. Pleasant breakfast room with good choice of continental or full cooked breakfast., fresh fruit selection, good quality yoghurt and choice of breads for toast. The hotel is a very short walk to the central area, theatre restaurants and shopping. There is a good parking area.

There was nothing to not like!

It had a big shower cubicle with a handheld shower hose. The kitchenette facilities were excellent. The included continental breakfast had a wonderful range of fresh fruits—kiwi, 3 types of melon, etc. as well as cereals, yoghurt, various breads to toast, fresh juices, and a variety of teas to choose from or percolated coffee. The room was spacious and clean.The wifi had good connectivity. The TV has streaming services included.

It was on a hill, so the steps down to the road were steep, but there were handrails.
