The Flat NYC

Can't really complain for the price. The single room was larger than seen in the photos, although I may have been placed in another room. The bathrooms were very clean and weren't that crowded. The staff was exceptional, everybody was very nice and helped with my luggage.

A minor discomfort is that sometimes the doors don't close all the way on your way out unless you tap your key card. So just make sure you're closing your door properly.

Very friendly staff. I was able to change the date of my reservation and have an early check in without any difficulty or extra charge. Staff helped me up the stairs with my luggage and even assisted me to get an Uber on my phone. The entire hotel and my room was newly renovated to a high standard and the whole place was fresh and clean. Free Keurig Coffe and ice water 24 hours per day was also a boon. As an elderly woman travelling solo, I felt very safe in the hotel and I loved the Flat Iron neighbourhood.

Location, being a solo female, I felt safe. Facilities were kept clean, friendly staff. Even have it booked for my next trip!

It would be nice if there was an elevator, but I knew that making my reservation but staff helped me with my suitcase.

Pleasant staff at check-in. Super convenient location, near multiple subway lines and attractions. About a 15 minute walk from Penn Station/Moynihan. Room 201, one of the few with private bathroom. Only one flight of stairs up, so good if you have luggage. Small room, but bigger than I expected. Two people could navigate easily in this room. Spartan furnishings. Very clean. No phone or clock. Very nice modern bathroom, but no takeaway toiletries or tissues. Very large shower. Decent lighting, and natural light with blind up. Two sets of four plug outlets in the room, but none near the bedside table, which was inconvenient for charging phone overnight while using it as an alarm. The bed has no headboard and does not back up to a wall, so nothing to lean against while sitting in bed, reading or watching TV. Very large windows looking out onto 24th Street, with dark privacy roller blinds, so you can have either natural light or privacy, but not both. Weighing for location, price, cleanliness, serviceability, this is a pretty good overall choice for a short stay.

While a certain amount of noise is a given in the city, this room is very likely the noisiest (both traffic and pedestrian) in the whole hotel, as it is practically at street level and the large windows are not insulated. I didn’t find it a problem from 11pm to 7am, but a delivery truck running a truly obnoxiously loud engine parked on the street under my window at 7am for 25 minutes. If you don’t need to sleep past 7am or you’re a very heavy sleeper, you’ll probably be okay.

From a technological point of view, it's a huge risk The person at the front desk takes out their _personal_ iPhone and takes a picture of your driver's license. What they do with it...or how they protect that...is anyone's guess. It gets worse. even if you book online, you need to hand over your credit card, and the "desk" person (there is no desk) types all of your info into their laptop. And now, someone (or some company) has your name, CC #, expiration date and id # forever. Ugh.

The staff was friendly and went above and beyond to be helpful. The place has a lovely vibe, good decor. Felt like home. I really loved my stay there. The location is outstanding. The price is a great deal.

Overall great money for value. Very good location, 2 minutes from Madison Square and well connected to several metro and train lines. Free water bottles were offered to guests, and coffee. Room had everything strictly necessary. Funky ambiance.

More frequent cleaning of the shared bathrooms would have been appreciated. The room was very small, without any space dedicated to storage, which made it a bit uncomfortable. It was ok for 4 nights, longer would have been more difficult. I had not noticed the room would have been on a 4th floor without lift, for me it was no big deal but maybe so for someone travelling with more luggage.

Each room had it’s own hand basin, bedside locker, TV and plenty of sockets Beds were clean and comfortable The property is only a 20 min walk from Times Square and 15 mins from Penn Station (where I could get the train and AirTrain to JFK airport) The property is close to so many amenities - Starbucks, CVS Pharmacy and a dry cleaners (Google ‘Digital Cleaners’) are no more than two minutes away The property is in a good area - I always felt safe when I stepped out onto the street. I always slept soundly at night. There was never any noise in the property or on the street The WiFi was excellent and never had any problems

Nothing! I couldn’t have liked it any more!

1. Location was amazing and suited us perfectly 2. The room was actually bigger than we were expecting it to be (still not massive, but a good size!) 3. There was a water cooler / free coffee available at all times 4. Staff were always there and helpful / friendly 5. Felt very good value for money

The only downsides we would say from our stay here are 1. No Breakfast (But we were very aware of that before booking!) 2. Each morning my partner was woken around 6am by what he assumed were maybe cleaning staff arriving and chatting / laughing loudly in their office which was opposite our room.

I love the Flat and have stayed there three times now. It's a great "cheaper" option in the city while still allowing for private room and privacy. The restroom and showers are spotless and the staff have always been very nice. I'm 100% going to stay there again. It's a great middle ground so not in some dorm room hostel but not paying super expensive costs for a hotel room either. I wish there were more of these middle ground options in the city!

The only downside I've noticed each time is that the mattresses aren't great and sag so wish they had invested a bit more in high quality mattresses.
