The James New York - NoMad

This is an outstanding hotel far away from New York standards. Closed to everywhere: broadway, time square, central park (if you are a good walker), with a bus station just in front of the hotel for longer distances. The hotel is very nice. Sure this is not the most modern hotel we used to have, but it is well maintained, and it is on a human scale (no wait for minutes to have acces to the elevator for instance). The room was larger than expected for 4 for a 10 days stay. Large enough so we could put all our luggage without any problem. The neighborhood is fantastic with lots of good restaurants. 2 starbucks at the corners. I would recommand it to anyone going to New York.

Our room was a two queen size beds which is very rare in NYC and a very good option for families. The beds are very comfortable, the sheets and towels with good quality. The location is great, near important atracctions and subway stations and relatively quiet for NYC.

We really liked the hotel. I did not rate it excellent because there was a little availability of some items such as soap to wash hands and shower cap, although it was requested. In the bathroom, the liquid soap container did not work properly, so it wasn't easy to take a shower! This could have been checked and replaced beforehand.

We loved our room, after we had a difficult time with another room and the wonderful staff moved us to a better room. Since I was traveling for work and my daughter was seeing colleges, we ended up with a suite-type room that enabled me to have zoom calls and phone calls that did not disturb my daughter. The hotel was in a fabulous location and we comfortably walked or subway'd all around the city including into Brooklyn. I would gratefully and gladly stay at the James again!

Our first room was right off the elevator and we had a sanitation issue with the bathroom sink and shower, which our terrific staff promptly handled and moved us to another room.

Great stay at this hotel! Large room, and HUGE bathroom. There was plenty of room for our party of 3 to stay a week, the room would even work for a party of 4. Beds are comfy, pillows not so comfy - very flat, could use replacing. The room was clean to my standards and I’m one of those weird picky people that will see all of the yuckiness. Plenty of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash was supplied and it was actually decent! Room came with bathrobes and slippers, as well as a nice umbrella to use on the rainy days. Our view wasn’t the greatest, but it wasn’t bad either. We could see a little bit of the city. Noise from outside wasn’t bad, could just hear the New Yorkers honking occasionally. Only complaint, you can hear the room doors closing. So if you are trying to sleep and someone is going in and out of their room, you will hear the door closing loudly each time. There was no wait to use the elevators. Only guests with a key card can go up the elevator. Staff was friendly and helpful. We did not eat breakfast at the hotel or at their onsite restaurant, so we can’t provide comments on that. But, there are tons of yummy places to eat nearby, as well as convenience stores that are easy to walk to. Hotel was in a wonderful location, not too busy. Super easy walk to any part of the city and easy to jump on and off the subway. Would stay here again!

The room doors need some sort of bumper to avoid loud noise when the doors are closing.

The hotel was cozy and well appointed. While the room is small; its NYC, it was comfortable and nicely appointed. Almost all of the staff were welcoming ,friendly, and helpful.

One of the service personnel for morning coffee stood out because he was surly, unhelpful and did not represent the hotel well. I had a couple of encounters with him and watched as he treated others in a similar discourteous manner. I had planned to report him to the front desk but I didn't have the opportunity. Also there was difficulty with the hot water dispenser. I ended up helping people use it because it wasn't working properly and the staff person from the prior morning helped me work around the problem. Unfortunately the problem still existed the next day but I coached others. This was the only problem I experienced so it didn't change my overall opinion of the hotel.

Very comfortable open lounge area with lovely lemon water and fresh fruit available all day. The after work social hour held there has quality live music, and wine. There are multiple speedy elevators making it easy to go from lobby to room. the beds are really comfortable. The two on site venues - Scarpetta, and The Seville - are lovely spaces and both serve high quality food. drinks are better at Scarpetta's bar, but the atmosphere and live music at The Seville is fantastic. Breakfast at Scarpetta is a large bowl of fruit or basket of pastries, with warm food available to order at extra cost. carafes of water can be delivered to your room on request (call down again if they forget).

Strange side door entrance, without adequate signage. Door men available, but not attentive to guests exiting or entering. Staff are pleasant, but a little casual in their conduct with guests and each other, e.g. they gather around the front desk and lounge area to chit-chat, often loudly. Although they have a bar and restaurant on site, the hotel staff cannot secure tables for guests, and both require reservations way in advance, so they are not a true guest amenity. the lighting in the rooms is difficult to control. the hanging lampshade in our room was a pain in the head, literally.

Excellent location for visiting NY, the staff were very friendly and the morning coffee and early evening wine was a nice extra and it gave a lovely atmosphere in the foyer. We arrived late and front staff gave us complimentary water, also our luggage didn't arrive (British Airways computer glitch) and they gave us toothbrushes. The food at Scarpetta restaurant next door was amazing and worth a visit.

Windows need a clean and clothes storage was small, not enough room in bathroom to put out your own toiletries out, need a shelf?

Perfekt location in a nice neighbourhood. A “Wholefood” store befind the hotel. We enjoyed the “Wine-hour” . It was a great break and there was wonderfull musical entertainment. My son got sick during our stay and the wonderfull ladys, who keept our room nice and clean, was so nice to us and provided what we needed. The staff at the reception was kind and helpfull., and the guys and the entrance made us feel that we “came home” everytime we walked through the front door.

The location of the hotel is amazing! Quick links to the subway; so easy to get to downtown or uptown quickly but also, easy on foot too. Immediate access to 5th Avenue and constant views of the Empire State. The reception staff and concierge service were remarkable; super accommodating and friendly!

The rooms were clean but in past experience, sheets and towels are switched everyday. Our towels or sheets weren’t changed once however, I’m sure if we’d have asked they would have accommodated this. I was just surprised this wasn’t done as part of the clean. Also, list of amenities to be updated. I took a hairdryer and the rooms are fantastic; they already have hairdryers in rooms! Such a nice touch! Also, free WiFi which was a blessing too!

Beds were comfortable, building was beautiful on the exterior, staff was super friendly and helpful. Relatively centrally located to a lot of great places, all within a 20 minute walk or subway ride.

Not enough power outlets, only two near the beds and one of them didn't work. There were USB outlets, but only one of the 4 phones we had were compatible. Fridge was prestocked with expensive hotel drinks and snacks but we tried to put some of our own drinks and foods in it, but didn't get things cold enough. It was more chill temp than cold. Ran out of tissues AND toilet paper. Ironing board padding was shot so it left some patterns in our ironed garments.
