Mama Shelter London - Shoreditch

This was the coolest and most unique place we have stayed in multiple trips to London. From the friendly counter staff to the great creative areas to hang out and enjoy delicious food and drinks, we were really impressed. So much so that we ended up inviting our family that we came to visit to come and hang out at the hotel a couple nights, which they really enjoyed. The rooms are on the smaller side but the decor, comfort and all the necessities make up for the smaller space. Even the gym was impressive with great equipment. We will be staying here again for sure!

A little far from the tube but not a big deal at all!

Pleasant and modern design, both for the common areas and for the room. The hotel is relatively new (opened in 2019) and everything feels still fresh. The room itself is relatively small, but well organised and functional, with a small table by the bed. Street noise was barely noticeable even though we were facing the main road. Video games and karaoke rooms in the lower floor are a nice touch. There is also a Santander bike stand right in front of the hotel which is quite convenient.

Naming this hotel "Shoreditch" is very misleading, it is actually about 20min walk or 15min by bus from Shoreditch. The area is not bad, close to Broadway Market, Columbia Road and Victoria Park, but not nearly as central as the name implies.

As frequent visitor of the Mama Shelter Paris East, it was the first time we got a Mama Shelter in London. We know London quite well and we love the area near the hotel. Hackney, Bricklane, Spitalfields,... The East area has so much to offer. The hotel is the perfect location to do so. Although if you want to be more in the center you can take a bus directly but that takes a while. We explored so much new places in the area. As for the hotel, the rooms are bigger than in Paris and price/quality Mama Shelter is always the best way to go. I loved also the different accents (interior) in this hotel that gave it a Mama Shelter London vibe. The interior architects of Mama Shelter know exactly how to transfer their brand to the country they are in. Marvelous! The hotel room is quite spacious with an extra table and sitting area, tv and wifi is always good. The rooms are super clean and all comfort that you need. The beds are super good to sleep in. We were very happy to stay here in London and we surely come back and explore the other MamaShelters as well.

I love the rooms here - really comfy and clean, smell great and beautifully decorated and quirky and the reception staff are always so lovely and welcoming. Lovely cocktails from enthusiastic and efficient and skilled bar staff too.

The only 2 negatives were the restaurant and Lobby area had a really strong smell of gas! I did mention it to someone but apparently nothing was wrong. Myself and 4 other guests I was with thought it was really strong too. Also I think maybe an iron in the rooms would be super beneficial! :)

The bar area was really spacious and great for families. We were made to feel really welcome and comfortable. My boys loved the gaming machines and the football table. The room was snug but we were hardly in it so that didn’t matter. The breakfast was amazing, great choice and well stocked. So fresh and tasty.

I didn’t like the wet room style shower. The whole bathroom got soaked when you went in. Not ideal for little ones who could slip on the wet floor. The pillows were really uncomfortable. As mentioned before the room was snug. I probably would prefer a bit more space next time.

Lots of things! The staff were wonderful - they helped resolve a problem for us with efficiency, good humour and kindness. They'd also addressed our request to have a room on the quiet side of the building. We'd chosen the location carefully to be near a specific venue but it turned out to be very convenient for going into central London, using the 55 bus which stops virtually outside. The laundry facility upstairs is great - no hanging around having to wait for an iron to be brought to the room.

The first room we saw (and which we'd been booked into) was a little small & felt somewhat cramped (the dark paint doesn't help). However, when my sister had a panic attack (she suffers from claustrophobia) the staff were amazing and helped find us another room and adapt it so there were two beds.

I joined my Son school swimming team who were staying in the hotel. It was very suitable in terms of location and accommodating the kids in safe and clean environment. I was very comfortable, the hotel staff took good care of the kids and team. Bus station is right in front of the hotel, which was great as I took the bus to the train station couple of times. Taxi were also available and location was good for the places we visited.

Can be a bit far for some touristic areas considering the traffic in central London, that didn’t bother me much, just planning the trip ahead of time using the right transportation.

Great location, directly across the street from one of the best coffee shops in London, just down the road from the canal tow path and Broadway market which is very cool on the weekends. Good restaurants and shops nearby and they had a Peloton in the gym. What more could you ask for?

I did not mind but some people might be a bit put off by the neighborhood or the distance from the tube. There is an overground station but the overground kind of sucks. The rooms were small, even given my expectations that they would be small and the ground floor rooms are awkwardly directly on the street so that you can't have your window shades open at all without feeling like you are in a fishbowl for everyone walking past. I would have preferred a room on another floor, tbh.

Stayed 19th-20th March. Room 124. Special thanks to the Receptionist "Bam", you were so kind and sweet to the both of us and our dog Duchess! Staff members such as yourself should be recognised for the stellar job you do. Other special thanks to the bartender, sorry we did not catch your name! The room was superb, perfect size and lovely view to the street outside. Brought our dog and they provided her a little dog bed and bowls, such a sweet gesture! She was also welcome downstairs in the bar/breakfast area. Amazing reusable and eco friendly bathroom products. Such a quirky and fun place to stay, so much better than the carbon copy hotels you come across most times. 24 hour access with a warm fire and seating area to relax in late at night. We would stay here again in a heartbeat! Heartfelt thanks from Sam and Shorna, and of course Duchess the Cavalier.

Only negatives were - Someone entering our room 5/10 minutes after we checked in without knocking and were relaxing before going about our afternoon. Checked this with Reception to ensure it was a staff member, mistakes happen. She surprised us by providing drinks vouchers for their fabulous bar (thank you again, not the reason it was mentioned but appreciated nonetheless). - No visible bin in the bedroom, used the ice bucket for rubbish - Told the night porters are able to serve the bar in the evening to find the bar closed later on

Location, facilities, decor, and cleanliness. Also the very helpful and friendly attitude of staff. The general atmosphere also was energetic, lively and professional.

The morning coffee served in large thermos flasks was a disgrace. Tasteless, over diluted, and not very hot. This spoilt what otherwise would have been excellent breakfasts. When I mentioned this, insult was added to injury upon being told we could have a proper coffee if we paid extra. (Between us, seven of our family had paid close to £1,200 for our stay)
