One of the best locations: buses and subway are super close, different restaurants, supermarkets and convenience stores are a few steps away. Most of the sights are in walking distance in Manhattan. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious considering the typical tiny NY rooms. Great value for money! The building is an older one but has a nice and cosy atmosphere with the quirky interior as a bonus! It's a truly unique experience. If you're on a leisure trip, you most probably will be back to the hotel for sleep only, and for that this hotel is perfect: comfortable beds, pillows, good bathroom (we had a private one to the room). This has been my second stay here and definitely not the last.

Nothing really. If you’re prepared for what you can expect, you won't be disappointed - you'll want to come back. It may be noisy during the evening/night due to NY traffic but it's the same anywhere in Manhattan. The facilities are basic but, again, everything is detailed in the descriptions so you'll know what to expect.

Absolutely loved getting to stay here. The artwork throughout this building was so wonderful. As well, the location was supreme, a great middle ground with subways in just a few minutes of walking. As well with location, the surrounding food options was a life saver. The staff was so incredible, wonderful people who seemed genuinely thrilled to have you be staying with them. Lastly, the price is unbeatable. Have never found a cheaper hotel, and the price does not dictate the quality of stay. Greatest hotel in NYC.

A few tidbits but nothing major. Towels were minimal and poor quality, as well, no hand towels or wash rags. I wish the bathroom would’ve been larger, but it totally worked for a long weekend.

The person at the lobby was very friendly (a guy from Argentina). He let us choose between 3 different rooms that were available. The one we picked had a very interesting theme and beds were comfortable. The location of the hotel was great, short walk to subway. The hotel was quiet at night! :)

I'm glad we got to pick our room because the other two we checked were not great. The one on the top floor was very hot (during fall) and the other one had water in the bathroom floor.

Always a great place to stay when I have delays getting to my flat upstate. The staff are super friendly and helpful , the rooms all uniquely decorated and cozy, and it is in suuuuuch a convenient area of Manhattan .. away for touristy Times Square, yet close enough to walk to everything. I guess the eccentricity of this place isn’t for everyone, but that’s why all should read the description prior to booking. This is a lovely, no frills hotel, which is why they can keep the costs so low. If you’re expecting luxury in this convenient an area of Manhattan, expect to pay a LOT more at a basic hotel in midtown .

The location is excellent with great staff! The facilities aren't fancy or polished, but the whole place has lots of character - interesting art, friendly cat, very creative.

The shower/tub is VERY slippery. I would recommend putting some grippers in to provide some traction. As a heads up to any folks with mobility issues I'd say they might want to look elsewhere as there is no elevator and the staircase is steep and narrow.

It reminded me of some cool bohemian spots one might encounter while trekking in Nepal or Bolivia. But without kuch of a communal feel (it's America, after all). Every square inch has been painted in wild and gorgeous designs. The inside of the place is surprisingly quiet. The staff love their jobs as a way of life which one can't say about almost any other hotel. They are flexible and helpful - human! Fun. And funky vibes.

If you have heavy luggage you will awkwardly carrying it up and down narrow and plentiful stairs. In most of the rooms there is no access to sunlight so it has an eternal teen's basement feel, which is awesome in the evenings, disorienting in the mornings. It's kept clean enough, but the old doors with spaces open along the top of the doorframe and carpets which haven't been changed in a while will give the impression to some that it is dirtier than it likely is.

Very helpful staff, I needed a room with a desk and though they have few of those they got me one and made sure I was happy with the set up before running my card at check in. The art on all the walls in and out of the hotel room hails from an earlier era of NYC that is so rarely seen today and I am so happy I got to experience it. WiFi was appropriately abominable for something that harkens from a lost era but just feels like part of the charm. My mobile signal was great in the room so I was able to remote work on hotspot, but this place is more about the art

Very comfortable bed. Free coffee available near lobby. Staff very friendly. Was able to leave luggage on final day free of charge. Nice shower. Fantastic location near Madison Square Park with numerous subway stations within a few minutes walk. A great Deli just a few minutes away.

Lots of stairs for my aging legs to negotiate. Not a lot of space to hang clothes etc - no hooks on walls and the wardrobe was so close to one of the beds it was hard to get into it. Bathroom floor was rather grubby and the bathroom ceiling looked as if it might collapse at any second!

My family and I had a great 3-night stay, the room was very clean and the thematic aspect of the hotel super fun even for my 55- year old parents! The water fountain and free coffee and tea at the reception area made our stay extra nice! We also requested a hair dryer and it was handed to us immediately in addition to an extra couple of towels. The staff was super sweet and helpful. The location is amazing- we walked to many neighborhoods without constantly needing to use the subway. Will definitely recommend to anyone visiting the city!

I liked the price, location and the art of the hotel. If you accept that it's not a hotel chain and you pay for what you get you won't be disappointed. If you want the things that come with a chain then don't book this. I would 100% book again, the wife and teenager are less than 100% but don't think they didn't sleep well it enjoy. . I myself think the hotel is great and the neighborhood a lot more "alive" than my last 3 visits in midtown.
