room was on third floor, right above the night club... the room rattled due to the loud bass... whiffs of ganja made it into the room from the street... wish I would have know beforehand... and, this was an upgraded room...

The location in the Gramercy /Flatiron area is excellent for exploring the city. It is easy to walk to Midtown, Chelsea, the West Village, and the East Village. The subway is very close. There are plenty of good food options nearby and nice parks within a ten minute walk. We stayed in a premium king and a private quad. The premium king was a good size room for NYC. The private quad was small, but a rare find of four beds in one room and large enough for four teenagers to comfortably stay for four nights. All of the beds were comfortable. We had no problems with noise (15th floor). We were happy with our choice to stay at the Freehand.

The staff was excellent, from check-in to the wonderful cleaning staff at 9th floor and the Cafe Smile waiters for breakfast. The rooms were well-appointed, clean, albeit a little dark - and the beds and linen comfortable. Already recommended the hotel to friends, who liked it, too.

My first night was spent in a room close to the elevator (old and rattling) and even though I am a "good sleeper" the banging was horrendous. No way to sleep, even jetlagged. But I got moved after the first night, so it got sorted. (Avoid those rooms)

Great location, kind and helpful staff. Clean and welcoming. The bunk bed rooms were perfect for our group of 4 - a mom with 3 young woman.

We were disappointed that we could not use the rooftop bar after 6 pm because my kids were 20 years old. That was one of the reasons we booked this hotel, and we planned to go upon returning to the hotel on our last night at 6:30 pm and were surprised that we could not have food. (21 and older after 6 pm) I wish they would have told us the details at check in. Especially since our room did not have any views. Please add more suitcase folding trays in the bunk rooms as there is very limited space and it would really help make the room less crowded.

we were a group of 4 and we each had a bed to ourselves with our own outlet and lamp. we had a private bathroom and space for each person to move around and get prepared. we were also on a high floor (12) that gave us a nice view without any of the street noise. The location was so central, could easily reach many of the main attractions of New York by foot or easily by Subway. the best part was the price, as I said we were a group of 4 girls, usually we were forced to share double beds on someone is forced to sleep on a rollaway cot. but as I said here we each had our own bed, all same in size and with the price divided equally, the per person split was an absolute bargain. we each would have happily stayed there many more nights had we had the option.

neighbors directly across the hall were a bit noisy and you could hear them as if they were in the room with you when they were out in the hall. but it wasn't too often that they were around.

The hotel is very easy to get to by metro or Lyft/Uber/Taxi. It's on the way to almost everything in the city so a quick stop is never a problem. The lobby is small but very cozy, warm, and lively. Elevators are very quick and staff are friendly. The room is excellent, very efficient, tastefully decorated with wood, and the shower is amazingly warm and high pressure. We'll definitely be staying there again.

Nothing to dislike, honestly. The fridge is a little too tiny to be useful; except for a few bottles nothing else would fit in there. A luggage stand would have been a nice touch but maybe I just didn't find it, I didn't look too hard.

This hotel is very conveniently located to visit family in Manhattan. We love the little coffeeshop off the lobby and the available bottled water, also the chocolate! Desk staff and housekeeping staff are very friendly. There are many restaurant choices and grocery stores nearby. The frig in the room is very tiny, but handy!

The bed is a little soft for me, and I wish the light over the sink in the bathroom were a little brighter; it's difficult to apply make-up.

great location, super friendly staff. rooms are decent size for NYC as well. comodo and broken shaker are awesome.

we didn’t know that it also has a popular dance club - so it was quite noisy at night and the windows don’t seal tightly - so we heard all the noise from the street.

The room was a nice size for me. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean and roomy...looked like recently remodeled. My stay was during the heat wave this summer and each day they had complimentary water bottles to take with you. I thought this was very thoughtful!!

This is nothing that would keep me from returning...An outdoor seating area would be nice. A place to sit out and relax or read. I did not make it up to the restraunt/ bar on the roof, this could have been an option for that for me.

Good location, easy to find, and only a few minutes from 23rd St station. Staff at front desk and housekeeping were friendly and quick. Elevators were comfortable and efficient. Bunk beds and bathroom were comfortable enough. Refrigerator provided, although very shallow. Daily housekeeping.

Windows are not well-insulated such that street noise could be heard at high floors and cold drafts felt. Also one of the blinds was broken. Could use extra or firmer pillows. There is not enough counter space in the bathroom, as well as only 1 hook; can easily add a few extra hooks. TV was poorly placed, such that those in bottom bunks could only see 2/3 of tv screen because the bunk ladders blocked the other 1/3; this could be easily fixed by swapping the beds, so that the ladders are on the other side of the beds.
