Hudson River Hotel was, for me and my husband, the perfect choice due to the amazing location - walking distance from time squares, the vessel, madison square garden, many restaurants and cafes, public transportation...you name it! We were barely in our rooms, since we had a week in new york full of plans and we wanted to explore as much as we could. We were happy to come back easily to the hotel with the public transportation and be able to take a nice warm shower and then sleep in a comfortable bed. The room was small, but had everything we needed. Room service/cleaning is only if requested, since it is a small operation. Honestly, if you keep your things organized like you would do in your own house, there is no problem at all. It is even more sustainable to do it this way. Other than that, the staff kept to themselves, and when we interacted they were very kind. The hotel is quite old, but for the price/location ratio, I would choose it over and over again, and would recommend it as well. If NYC is your destination for full days of exploring and tourism, this is a great option.

There could be more plugging options in the room (for charging etc), but we made it work. Also the safe in our room was not working. We did not have anything super valuable with us tho so it was not that big of a deal. Also the windows did not open - but like we are coming from germany and germans love to open the home windows all the time haha. Not much of a complain tho, it should be safer this way I believe.

If you stay in similar rated hotels and go in with what to expect this place is great. Probably best suited for solo / couples and not full families (unless booking multiple rooms) as rooms are a touch small. Good: -Great location for the price (15 min walk to times square) -fresh bedding and towels. -bathroom had new soaps and clean towels provided. -staff were lovely and professional. -comfy bed -plenty of markets near by (wholefoods 5 min walk south) (Gotta comment as I've seen Lots of other peoples reviews have mentioned about Homeless people in the area etc, as of the 7th sept there were no homeless people sleeping out front of near the hotel. Those I saw were harmless, the whole midtown area is rough around the edges, so be aware but don't let that scare you away from staying here. ((Also I saw someone's review mention 'bullet hole' in elevator door, this is not a bullet hole, this is a access point hole for door maintenance)))

-aircon was noisy but necessary too warm outside and the windows were unopenable. -carpet needs to be replaced as a priority, general TLC to rest of room. But minor issues really.

location. staff. ease.

the level of mold in the bathroom was really bad. like a whole ring of black mold around the under lip of the sink that you could only see in the reflection of the mirror but went around the whole bowl of the sink. ewwww. the caulk around the base of the toilet looked like a child did it. but for the price and the location it was worth overlooking. water pressure and temp were poor as well. but got the job done. I stayed in room 800 is anyone reading this cares to address the mold ring in the sink. ❤️

I don't understand bad reviews of affordable lodgings. This place is exactly what I expected and I'm glad I booked. Was a bit nervous because of the bad reviews, but went ahead because of the location. I was coming in by train and wanted to be very close to Penn Station so I could drop my bags and go headlong into the City with the least amount of fuss. The location is exceptional. Easy couple block walk from Penn and even closer to the 7 line at Hudson Yards. Super easy to get everywhere. There's a Dunkin across the street for morning coffee and the excellent Finn's Bagels on 10th between 34th and 35th, a 2 minute walk from the hotel. I requested a quiet room and I was given a room in the back on the 13th floor. The only noise I heard was people coming and going, but with only 4 rooms per floor, traffic was very light. The room is typical NYC small, but the king sized bed was comfortable with plentiful pillows and clean linens. The bathroom had excellent water pressure and plenty of hot water, plus a heating lightbulb in the ceiling for warmth. The HVAC unit worked great and was reasonably quiet. Quick to heat and cool and with a fan only option for white noise. Not much of a view as I was facing the back and hemmed in by other buildings, but it was blissfully quiet. The wardrobe was fine for my needs and the room also had 2 full length mirrors with one in the wardrobe and one on the wall near the bath, a desk, large mini fridge, and microwave oven. There was a luggage rack, hair dryer, iron & board too. Getting extra towels was simple at the helpful front desk. The only drawbacks were the single, slow elevator and the spotty wifi, both mere annoyances and completely expected for NYC budget lodging. When the wifi wasn't working, I tethered my laptop to my phone. Problem solved. If you're looking for luxury in the heart of the action, keep looking.

I couldn't get the safe to lock, but didn't elevate the issue either. Maybe I was doing something wrong or maybe it had malfunctioned. I'll never know because I didn't care enough to ask. I suppose the wifi thing is a big deal for people so maybe the hotel can work on making it more reliable.

Nearly everything was great and excellent VFM.

Battery op safe had no batteries so was inop. Therefore I couldn't use it to secure my valuables. I extended my booking and paid for an extra night. I asked reception if I could stay in same room. No problem. Horrified when I came back late next evening and my door was ajar with all my valuables inside. Nothing taken thank goodness. I can only assume the keys needed to be manually presented for reprogramming for the extra night and to avoid locking me out of the room the door was left ajar. I wouldn't have minded going to reception on realising my key didn't open the door rather than having my room unsecured for possibly all day and some of the night.

It was a lovely hotel - the beds were comfy, there was hot water and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Considering we were out until late in the evening, when we got back to the hotel it was shower and sleep. The hotel had works in progress but it did not affect our stay. The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to help. We would definitely stay again!!

We had to ask for new towels but other than that, no problems at all.

The location in terms of closeness to all of the tourist attractions and shops is very good, only time I took the subway was to the airport and it's really fun to explore the city by foot. The staff was also very nice and it's good to have someone at the front desk even late at night if you come back from a pub or elsewhere. Great, fast, free wifi was the highlight for me!

The area is pretty sketchy but that's just what being in a big city is like I guess. The room was TINY and the bed took up most of the space. The bathroom was not clean at all and there were cracks in the walls.

Exactly what we needed, cheap and cheerful. Had everything we needed and got fresh towels when asked for them. Didn't even expect a fridge in the room but was very grateful for it. Tea and coffee were available in the foyer. The location is great. Not too far from the hustle and bustle. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I even booked my return trip through the hotel.

Basic cheap hotel. Nice and helpful receptionists. Convenient position in Hudson Yard, clean and silent. Comfy bed. Perfect WiFi

Fixed windows, not easy to have fresh air in room. Sloooooow lift! Room not that big, but few sq ft would have been enough. So not a real problem

The hotel is very well located and has the metro next to it. The price was good.

What I didn't like so much was the cleaning, they don't clean daily but you have to ask them to clean the room a day in advance. And the towels were stained. Also, one day the elevator broke down and we had to go up 9 floors.
