The Allen Hotel

Perfect location. I used to live in nyc and chose where to be near everything (amazing eating / drinking)

Room 103 is good, but it clearly used to be a part of a restaurant - literally a sign for coffee is still written on the balcony. Seriously, there’s a fairly creepy balcony setup and any one of the 4 rooms can see into the other.

I like that my hotel was close to the areas that I was planning to visit and they allowed us to check in an hour prior to the scheduled check in time. The staff were so nice and pleasant too. Plus the hotel was clean.

What I did not like from this hotel was that, first on my instruction sheet/card that they will be serving breakfast…but when I went down they said their kitchen was closed because of lack of staff. Second, I was calling the frontdesk and it was always busy, only to find out that there was no staff at the frontdesk. Lastly, rooms are not soundproof. Because my neighbor kept me awake until 2am.

Price and location can't be beat. Not a huge room, but clean, quiet and comfortable. I had a king with a balcony, which I love. The Lower East Side is one of my favorite neighborhoods. It's a lively and gritty area, and the Allen is a nice oasis.

If you want a generic hotel environment (think Marriott), this isn't for you. The floors are not carpeted, but I think this is cleaner and not a disadvantage.

The location was amazing, lots of restaurants and stores nearby. Close to subway. The staff was amazing, always welcoming us and helping. There were 2 front desk ladies who especially stood out. Sadly, I did not get their name. When I got food delivered, one front desk woman waited for me in front of the elevator to hand if off to me so I did not have to wait for it again to get back up. The security is amazing as you need a key to get to any floor that is not the lobby. The room was a tad but outdated but nothing insane. There is a button for DND and need cleaning which made it easy to set. They also have a nice gym with a steam room and sauna. We also had a balcony in our room that was beautiful.

They will refresh towels but will not clean room unless you’re staying longer than 7 days. We stayed here 5 nights and definitely would have liked to have the trash taken out and just a little freshening up. We were working from here for most of the week and when we asked the front desk lady for a space to work she let us into a little dining area, it was very nice. However, I guess she did not know there was a scheduled meeting there later in the day-honest mistake. The manager came and told us how she wasn’t supposed to do that and we had to leave- very rudely. We understood there was something to do but there was definitely a better way to handle that.

.Nice, clean room in clean hotel. Booked balcony room and it was great - fab views of Manhattan.Good location in lower east side with lots of little shops and bars around..little italy less than 10mins walk away and subway stations close by. Much better location to stay than midtown IMO.

The unfriendliest 'welcome' I have ever encountered at any check in at any establishment I have ever stayed at. I was actually reduced to (angry) tears after check in and that is NOT me at all!

Staff on reception desk friendly and helpful. The location is great for seeing Manhattan. Lots of choice of places to eat within easy walking distance.

The room was cold and the air conditioning/heating was not great. Apparently the rooms with windows on 2 sides are always cold (not sure about the summer). The rooms ending in 02 - 302, 402, 502. The staff did change the settings but when we were out of the room all day and into the evening the temp in the room dropped to 16degC.

Great location. 3 minutes from 2 separate metro stations covering 5 lines. Balcony with amazing city views. Great character, and exotic oriental decoration.

Not spotlessly clean, but not dirty. (I know that sounds weird)

The location is great, balcony great, bed great.

My only feedback for the hotel would be that they should put lights and seating on the rooftop as it has great views - seems like an untapped win to me. Also I don't know if there was any breakfast being served, if there was we didn't hear about it.

Great location in the lower east side. A few blocks away from famous tourist restaurants like Russ and Daughters and Katz’s Deli. extremely helpful and friendly staff, they did everything they could to make sure our stay was as nice as possible. 3 minute walk from 2 different subway lines making getting around the city very easy. We were able to get everywhere using the subway lines, it only took us 30 minutes from our room door to get from the LES to the Bronx for a Yankees game. The view from the room was stunning. They have rooftop terrace for guest who do not have a balcony. The rooms are non-smoking but they allow smoking on the balcony and even provide an ashtray. They provide 2 free water bottles a day when they clean which is a blessing when you’re out exploring all day and forget to grab something on the way back. We flew in but there is a parking garage across the street that seemed reasonable for the area.

The only thing I could see people having a problem with here is no breakfast served. But there are plenty of food places in the lower east side you could eat for breakfast, including a nice breakfast place right behind the hotel.
